Daily Holidays November 8

I will be away from the key board the next few days and will continue to post the Daily Holidays as best I can, however they will be a bit more bare bones than they currently appear.

Not that I expect anyone who visits this Board to do so, but don't forget to VOTE. Your choice in Voting Booth is Yours and Yours alone, however failing to show up and exercise Your Right and Duty to Vote makes things just a bit less for all of us. Democracy belongs to those who show up.

Cook Something Bold and Pungent Day s an event that leaves little to the imagination. In other words, cooking something original, spicy and even a bit offencive is the entire intent of this day. Still, it is not meant to merely represent a disgusting concoction of disparate ingredients. Cook Something Bold and Pungent Day is intended to celebrate the use of herbs such as garlic and hot pepper to promote health and longevity. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/cook-something-bold-and-pungent-day/

X-ray Day In 1895 there was an incredible discovery made, one that would utterly change the way we looked at the human body, both literally and figuratively. On the back of this discovery, a million new technologies would be developed in the areas of medicine, security, and much more. The man who discovered all this? Wilhelm Röntgen, and as a result, he may just be one of the most important men in medical history. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/x-ray-day/

Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day This intriguingly specific Day celebrates a particular combination of flavours – dark, bitter chocolate and toasted almonds. This is one of the oldest recipes involving chocolate known in the English-speaking world, featuring as the only chocolate dish in an 18th-century cookbook. The Day stands alongside Milk Chocolate with Almonds Day. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/bittersweet-chocolate-with-almonds-day/

Job Action Day Job Action Day was created with the purpose of encouraging job seekers to think outside the box, and to focus on getting a job that fits their ambitions, but also one that reasonably pays the bills. There’s a common belief that people should follow their passions when looking for work, to find a job that truly brings them satisfaction and fulfillment, and not to settle for anything less. The reality of the situation is that sometimes this doesn’t work, and great opportunities are missed out on because of a narrow, goal-oriented focus. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/job-action-day/

National Nachos Day Nachos originated in Piedras Negras, Mexico, just across the border from Texas. One day in 1943, when the wives of some American soldiers stationed nearby came into his restaurant, the maitre d’hotel, whose name was Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya, had to make them something to eat. The problem was that is was evening, and already a few minutes past closing time, so Ignacio really didn’t have enough ingredients left over to make any real, full dish—all he had were a few tortillas, some shredded cheese and some pickled jalapeno peppers. So he cut up the tortillas into pieces, sprinkled what else he had over them, and baked them for a few minutes before serving them to melt the cheese. The women greatly enjoyed the snack, and when they asked Ignacio what it was called, he answered “Nacho’s especiales”. The word of this new hot snack traveled fast through Texas and the Southwest. Ignacio Anaya himself went on to work at the Moderno Restaurant in Piedras Negras, which still uses the original recipe till this day. He also opened his own restaurant later on, called, “Nacho’s Restaurant”, in Piedras Negras as well. Anaya’s original Nachos recipe was printed in the 1954 St. Anne’s Cookbook. A few years later, a modified version of the original dish, with cheese sauce and prepared tortilla chips was marketed in 1976 by businessman Frank Liberto during various sporting events taking place in Arlington, Texas. This version became known as “ball park nachos”. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/nachos-day/

Orphan Sunday Orphan Sunday is a time to stand up for the orphans of the world. In truth, there are likely no more vulnerable human beings in the entire world than those thousands upon thousands of children in this world who have no mother or father, due to all sorts of tragedies that have occurred in their lives, ranging from accidents, to sicknesses, to war. Whatever the reason, orphaned children need our help in any way we can offer it. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/orphan-sunday/

Saxophone Day Ahhh, the Saxophone. That sultry wail on a mist-ridden street, the seductive tones of Kenny G, and the rich warm sound of a jazzy riff. These sounds truly capture the heart and imagination of their listeners, and have since the instrument first came on the scene. From professional musicians like the jazz legend Johnny Hodges, to Bill Clinton, the former president of the United States, the Saxophone knows no boundaries of class or race. If you’ve never really taken the time to enjoy the beautiful music of this instrument, Saxophone Day is your time to indulge. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/saxophone-day/

Playboy model charged over locker room photo of naked pensioner

A Playboy model has been charged with invasion of privacy after taking a photo of a naked woman in a gym locker room and posting it on social media.

The Snapchat post also included an insulting comment about the 70-year-old woman's body.

The gym, LA Fitness, reported the incident to police and revoked Mathers' membership.

If convicted, she could reportedly face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Gunpowder Day ocuses on the plot by Guy Fawkes and other conspirators to blow up Britain’s parliament in 1605. Rebelling against the persecution of Catholics by King James I, they planned to kill the monarch during his visit to parliament. But the scheme was foiled and the traitors executed. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/gunpowder-day/

Love Your Red Hair Day Red hair has truly had its share of myths associated with it, but we’ll begin with a few of the most common. Red hair, while common to Ireland, is not native to Ireland. You can generally assure that if you’ve seen an Irish redhead, she’s got some Norwegian blood in her. Red hair, you see, was brought to Ireland by the pillaging and rapacious Vikings. As they moved in, they left the fire in their hearts in the blood of their wives and slaves, and soon, in the sons and daughters that came from their union. It seems only apt that the same fire that graced their manes should come out in the children, and the attitude to match. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/love-your-red-hair-day/

Love Your Lawyer Day Even before Shakespeare, Lawyers have routinely gotten a bad rap. Opined as the sum of all evils, and often the subject of some very unflattering metaphors, Lawyers are the subject of some of the most well-known jokes around. That’s why, for Love Your Lawyer Day, which was created in 2001 by attorney Nader Anise, ALPIA (American Lawyers Public Image Association) has start a campaign of “No Lawyer Bashing or Jokes for a day.” After all, while Lawyers may have a bad reputation, it’s often forgotten the good they do. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/love-your-lawyer-day/

Fountain Pen Day There is something utterly elegant about hand-writing a document, about taking pen in hand and transferring the contents of our hearts and souls to paper. When working on something as dreary as the budget for the month or filling out paperwork, a ball-point pen will do. When you are taken to record the most important moments of your life, or turning words into poetry, only the elegance of a Fountain Pen will do. Fountain Pen Day reminds us of this, and encourages us to pick up a fountain pen and put it our souls to paper. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/fountain-pen-day/

Use Your Common Sense Day Every day we see complete fails of Common Sense, stupid and fantastic examples of the horror that can occur when someone just… refuses… to think. Sometimes it’s a matter of hubris, people thinking that their over-inflated sense of self-importance can overcome the laws of physics. Other times it’s just a complete failure to take a moment to really think a thing through, and thus do something monumentally stupid. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/use-your-common-sense-day/

Sandwich Day Never underestimate the power of a good sandwich, there’s something special about the best of the worlds toppings slipped between two slices of bread. Mayonnaise as a sandwich dressing? You betcha, slices of pickle? Of course! French fries? Don’t look at us like that, French fry sandwiches are delicious! The fact of the matter is that if you like something on its own, you’ll almost certainly like it dressed up for the ball in bread and toppings. Sandwich Day celebrates them all. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/sandwich-day/

Jelly Fish Day Although Jellyfish Day may sound a bit odd to some, it only makes sense to celebrate an invertebrate that has been on this earth for million of years longer than humans. So, this event is meant to honour our slightly slimy counterparts that can sometimes cause a bit of consternation at the beach. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/jellyfish-day/

National Deviled Egg Day Start with a hard boiled egg, and slice it in half. Scoop out the yolk and mash it with mayonnaise and mustard. These are the two most standard ingredients for deviled eggs, but you can be as adventurous as you like. Many people add various seasonings as well, especially hot spices like cayenne or chipotle. You can add anything you like to the mix, and when you’re finished fill the eggs halves back up. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/deviled-egg-day/

Stress Awareness Day Stress can be a real killer, both in the workplace and in our day to day lives. Stress serves a solid purpose in human biology, but our modern lives have brought about a surplus of causes that haunt us from day to day. When we are faced with a challenge, or a threat to our well-being, the body experiences stress. Whether you’re dealing with a job that puts you under tremendous pressure, or face struggles in your life or relationship that leave you in a state of constant worry, stress can be a real killer. Stress Awareness Day was set aside as time to be aware of the stress in our lives and how it affects us. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/stress-awareness-day/

Author's Day There are two ways to start your Authors’ Day celebration, either by picking up an American favorite or finding one you haven’t read yet and finally cracking it open. You can go to your local library and discuss the possibilities with the people there, no one knows American Authors like your local librarian. With titles like “The Scarlet Letter”, “The Grapes of Wrath”, and “The Great Gatsby” to choose from, how could you possible go wrong? Don’t have time to take in a book? American literature struck the world so hard that many of them have been turned into cinema, with one such classic being “Gone With The Wind” Make Authors’ Day your day to feed another great book into your mind. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/authors-day/

World Vegan Day first occurred on November 1st, 1994 as a way of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the UK Vegan Society and indeed the term “Vegan”. The Vegan Society was established in November of 1944; although the exact date was unknown. The President of the Vegan Society decided to elect the date of the 1st of November. This is now recognised as the date on which the Vegan Society was founded and on which Vegan Day would be observed. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/vegan-day/

Extra Mile Day started by The Extra Mile America Foundation in 2009. As a non profit organisation that promotes action and a positive attitude, it designated the day to encourage citizens from all walks of life to simply live a fulfilling, self-directed lifestyle that does not constrain their potential, and that enables them to at least go the extra mile to achieve what they have always wanted. Today, the day is recognized by more than 220 mayors in the United States and also involves celebrating organisations, institutions and individuals who put their best foot forward to ensure that others live a better life. In 2014, 527 cities in the U.S.A. declared November 1 “Extra Mile Day”! At an individual level, it is a day for soul-searching, shifting personal goals for the better, volunteerism and expressing gratitude to those who sacrifice their time and effort to go the extra mile for us. It is a day dedicated to people having a positive influence on society and doing the best they can to make the world a better place for their own good and for others. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/extra-mile-day/
