do people today understand what war with Russia would mean?

Even some opponents of military intervention talk as we were debating whether or not to invade Panama. The idea of engaging Russia in military action far exceeds the issue of invading Iraq or even Iran. A military strike against Russian forces would place the world in a state of parallel far, far more dangerous as the Cuban missile crisis of 1962.

Only a crackpot or madman would even consider such a course of action. I rejoice that there is no crackpot or madman currently sitting in the White House who would even consider for one single second such an action.

Could it actually be possible that some people have forgotten what war with Russia would likely escalate to?

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer to speak about controversial bill

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer will make a statement Wednesday evening about a controversial piece of legislation that would give more protection to businesses who cite religious beliefs in refusing to serve gays and others, she announced.

The move comes after an intense national outcry by the gay community, its supporters, business owners and Arizona political leaders, urging the governor to veto SB 1062.

Critics describe the bill as anti-gay, unconstitutional and divisive. It passed the Republican-controlled Legislature last week, largely on a party-line vote.

Proponents of SB 1062 say the bill is being misrepresented. They emphasized that it was not a discriminatory bill and was intended to protect religious freedom. They note that state law already permits businesses to refuse to serve gays and others, and this bill would merely strengthen that right.

The bill was met with quick and widespread criticism — prompting three Republicans who had voted for it to reverse course and urge a veto.

Some foes of the legislation have threatened to boycott Arizona if the bill becomes law, and a national group of Latino lawyers announced Wednesday that it had pulled out of hosting a conference in Phoenix.

Washington Post headline: Obama to drop Social Security REFORMS from latest budget request

Note how much of the media describes cuts as "REFORMS". Why is everything that hurts working people considered reforms?

President Obama will drop from his latest budget request a plan to use a less-generous measure of inflation when calculating Social Security cost-of-living increases, according to White House officials.

The contentious proposal, which was included in last year's White House budget, was offered in hopes of persuading House Republicans to cut a deal to reduce federal deficits, but such a deal never materialized. Meanwhile, congressional Democrats opposed the plan and urged him to take it off the table.

One official said the offer would remain on the table in the event of new budget talks but that it would not be part of the president’s formal spending blueprint for fiscal 2015.

The official was not authorized to comment by name on the budget plan before its March 4 release and spoke only on condition of anonymity.

Smearmaster Greenwald's smear campaign against George W. Bush

AS they say - haters are going to hate and smearers are going to smear. Greenwald did not begin his smear career with President Obama - he was doing it way back before Obama came to the White House. It seems that he thinks that just because someone is in powerful position - that they are supposed to be criticized - Imagine that!~!

Well I will say this about the Coca Cola ad - sure it is corporate advertising - perhaps even

corporate propaganda - if you will. It is safe to say the Coca Cola Corporation has not joined the struggle to build the Workers' Commonwealth. But the very fact that such a major corporate icon chose to run its most expensive advertisement it ever ran - are betting their future on an America where dark skin street dancing kids, gay parents, Hispanics, Jews and Muslims live just as much at the core of mainstream American identity as middle class suburbanite White Anglo Saxon Protestants - This shows that in spite of setbacks on the progressive economic agenda - The culture war is being won. The Tea Baggers and rightwing fundamentalist vision for the America they want is being defeated. Coca Cola Corporation certainly knew that their advertisement would cause those people to throw a fit. But they didn't care. They didn't consider their feelings very important at all. They are betting their bottom line on a future America that looks like the diverse America in the most expansive advertisement they ever ran in their entire corporate history. NO it does not address the economic issues we want to address - but still I can't help but consider this advertisement an auspicious sign for all of us who prefer diversity and acceptance over sameness and conformity.

Gov. Chris Christie booed by Times Square crowd at Super Bowl event

Source: New York Daily News

Christie, whose state is hosting the big game Sunday, was twice booed when introduced on Saturday amid the scandal surrounding his administration. Meanwhile, the New Jersey governor reportedly sent an email to supporters ripping David Wildstein, the former Port Authority official claiming Christie knew of the George Washington Bridge lane closures as they happened.

The once-immensely popular New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was booed twice Saturday at a Super Bowl event in Times Square.

It was a tough thing for a Jersey guy to hear: Boos rained down Saturday on Gov. Chris Christie like he was wearing a Tony Romo jersey.

The once-immensely popular Christie, his glow lost to scandal, sat stone-faced as he was razzed in Times Square for a typically upbeat Super Bowl event.

“You made it across the bridge?” howled one heckler as the problem-plagued Christie — in a navy Windbreaker and black scarf — sat impassively on the stage at Broadway and W. 43rd St.

I must admit - in the beginning- I thought Gov. Christie would weather this storm. But now that is looking ever increasingly unlikely
