Update: The Hanover Pa Bald Eagle's nest was a failure this year.
April 4 - As the remaining egg on the #PGCeaglecam has not hatched, it is unlikely that it is viable. There are many factors that can influence the success of a nest. We do not know what caused the nesting failure in this specific instance. We do know that the eagles using the Hanover nest have produced successful young during many past years, and that they have had nest failures in other years. This is not an uncommon occurrence for raptors, nor for wildlife species in general.
The eagle cam has provided a real glimpse into nature. And a reminder of the struggles that wildlife encounter in trying to survive. A shutdown date for the camera has not yet been determined.
#PGCeaglecam viewers, we thank you for your passion for wildlife. We hope you continue to follow the Game Commissions social media pages, blog and website for wildlife information.
March 30 - It appears the eaglet that hatched on Monday night on the #?PGCeaglecam did not survive. As weve noted, the live stream provides an opportunity to view wildlife in its natural setting. Sometimes, that may include scenes that are difficult to watch.
The Game Commission will not intervene in this situation. Federal safeguards exist to protect nesting eagles. Persons encroaching a 660-foot perimeter around a nest are in violation of federal law. At this point, we will continue to monitor the nest and the second egg.
March 28 - A nestling made its first appearance at around 7:25pm.
