How Arbys Paid Tribute To Jon Stewart In A Bizarre Way

A lesser marketing department would have been nervous about Jon Stewart lambasting the Arby’s brand every chance he got. Stewart is a pretty compelling and convincing guy with a gigantic audience. Would have been easier to ignore it just be thankful that it was Stewart’s last show.

But Arby’s took a much riskier and counterintuitive path: creating an ad that highlights Stewart’s negative rants about its brand. Let me repeat that. Arby’s created an ad that highlights Stewart’s negative rants about its brand. And paid Comedy Central for the privilege of running it.

But here’s the thing. In doing so, Arby’s showed Stewart’s audience that they understand the vibe of “The Daily Show.” Being self-effacing and not offended signals supreme confidence, and confident brands are attractive brands.

Loved the commercial.

Dumb Criminals: Guy Attempts To Break Into Santa Ana Zoo Claiming He's Tarzan

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) --
A man was arrested after police say he swung from trees and tried to enter a monkey exhibit at the Santa Ana Zoo, all while claiming to be "Tarzan."

Kent Yamaguchi, the zoo's director, was the one who made the bizarre 911 call on Tuesday.

"We have a gentleman who appears to be under the influence of something and is climbing in our trees and jumping into animal exhibits," Yamaguchi is heard in the 911 call recording.

"Oh, Okay, wow," the dispatcher responded.

Yamaguchi said the man, later identified by police as 37-year-old John William Rodenborn, was shirtless and climbing trees near the zoo's aviary.

"He climbed up into the tree and then proclaimed himself that he was 'Tarzan,' and that he was here just to have a good time," Yamaguchi said.

Norway Golf Course Baffled By Phantom Pooper For Over 10 Years

The fairways stretching like green carpets into the distant horizon. The greens, tailored like fine garments and cut like the most expensive of cloths. Dotted bunkers with fine golden sands. The rough, bound by mature trees hugging its fringes and defining its lines. The par four third hole, approached via a dog-leg right fairway and guarded by two shallow bunkers, inviting the wayward shots. The 458-yd par 5 fourth hole with a lump of excrement wedged solidly in the bottom. The majesty of gol...wait, what was that about excrement?

You mean the 458-yd par 5 fourth hole with a lump of excrement wedged solidly in the bottom? It's not only the 4th, it depends on the mood of the phantom plopper - it could very well be any of the 18 holes on the course.

In something that is definitely not 'golf' and definitely not in the rules laid down by the Royal and Ancient, it seems that Stavangar Golf Club in south-west Norway has a problem with someone who prefers the turd hole to the third hole of the course. This particular late night visitor to the club is happier sinking his bowels into the cup rather than a golf ball. This series of faecal foul-ups has been going on for 10 years and authorities at the club are none the wiser to the identity of their phantom pooper.

Really Dumb Criminals: Guy Impersonating Police Officer Pulls Over Real Police Officer

NORTH KINGSVILLE — A North Kingsville man who reportedly tried to pass himself off as a police officer during a bogus traffic stop early Sunday night couldn't have picked a worse vehicle to pull over.

Behind the wheel was an off-duty police officer from Youngstown, authorities said.

Howard Maldonado, 42, faces a charge of impersonating a police officer, a first degree misdemeanor, Ashtabula County Prosecutor Nicholas Iarocci said in an email message. A first degree misdemeanor carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

North Kingsville police were contacted at 6:15 p.m. Sunday by the Youngstown officer, who reported his vehicle was stopped on Lake Road (Route 531) near Sunset Park, village Police Chief Hugh Flanigan said Monday. The officer said he was pulled over by a black Chevy Tahoe displaying red and blue emergency-style lights.

Delta Is Latest Airline To Join Big Game Trophy Transport Ban

Source: New York Times

The recent killing of a popular lion named Cecil by an American dentist in Zimbabwe sparked considerable outrage on social media and elsewhere against safari hunting. The event has also brought to light the role that airlines play in transporting trophy kills as cargo, and may have contributed to changing airline policy.

On Monday, Delta Air Lines became the latest carrier to change its rules about transporting hunting trophies. Its announcement came as a group of airlines including Air France, KLM, Iberia, IAG Cargo, Singapore Airlines and Qantas signaled last week they would ban the transport of trophy-hunting kills, according to Paul Ferris, the campaign director at SumOfUs.org, a consumer-based petition agency in Brooklyn, which has pressed for changing cargo policies.

“Airlines and other large travel corporations would be foolish to ignore the public reaction to the killing of Cecil the lion, and growing concern about the plight of endangered species,” Mr. Ferris said.

Such a ban was initiated by South African Airways in April, and Emirates, Lufthansa and British Airways later joined. These airlines pledged not to carry big game trophies, including elephants, rhinos, lions and tigers as cargo.

Looking Back: My Picks For Lewis Black's 5 Best Daily Show Segments

With the Daily Show With Jon Stewart ending this week, you can't help but think of some of the greatest contributors to the show - whether it's Rob Riggle, John Oliver, Steve Carrell, Samantha Bee, Stephen Colbert, or Larry Willmore, but with all those awesome contributors, there's very few who have had quite the impact that Lewis Black has had. His Back In Black segments are truly genius and magical, and kept most of us from going crazy during the height of the George W. Bush era. Lewis Black, arguably the greatest comedian working today, and known for being the angry Jewish guy (hence why he was cast as Anger in Pixar's recent Inside Out flick). So with that in mind here are his five best segments. The videos will be found at the link. It's nearly impossible to pick just five from Lewis Black's 300+ Daily Show segments, but here are the true standouts.

1. Glenn Beck's Nazi Tourettes

How could this not be number one? At the height of Glenn Beck comparing literally everything about the Obama administration to Nazi Germany, Black eviscerates Glenn Beck's insanity and over use of the Nazi card. He also tears into Beck's program at the height of his powers and destroys nearly every single thing about it. It was so dead on that it got mention on nearly every left wing blog and media outlet.

2. Don't Mess With Texas? No, Don't Fuck With New York!

When idiotic Texas governor Rick Perry, the guy who couldn't name three branches of government that he wanted to cut, made videos urging businesses not to establish in high tax rate states like New York and California, Lewis Black fired back and completely annihilated Rick Perry's strategy. The result is magical.

3. Donald Trump For President

Lewis predicted it - Donald Trump is the one politician who's not afraid to tell the truth about the fact that he's a lying asshole. But who could have predicted Trump's insane racist rant in his campaign announcement a few weeks ago? It's certainly been entertaining to say the least.

4. Meat

One of the better non political segments that Lewis Black did centered around America's meat consumption. It started with news about Taco Bell losing a lawsuit claiming that Taco Bell's ground beef was not up to the USDA's quality standards. Also witness some of the more insane foods coming to America's minor league ball parks.

5. New Media

Lewis Black predicted that when Rupert Murdoch was buying the Wall Street Journal, that it would devolve from reporting business news to being a trashy celebrity tabloid. He also attacks some of the other parts of Rupert Murdoch's empire, and conservatives whining about how the media doesn't support them.
