When it comes to paranormal activities, a freaked out French family living in a supposed haunted house in the French village of Mentque-Nortbécourt, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, claim to have seen it all.

They’ve witnessed oranges floating across the room, violent attacks by soap trays and earlier this month members of the spooked family were hospitalized after being hit by flying chairs, the regional Voix du Nord newspaper reported on Wednesday.

According to the local newspaper the family have reported that the strange happenings have been going on since last July. To prove they were not going mad they have brought in others from the village, including the mayor, to witness the events.

“It’s becoming dangerous,” the mother told France 3 television. “My friend had to go to hospital this week after getting hit in the head by stones. It’s serious.”

Paramedics were called earlier this month after one member of the family said he was hit by a flying chair in his face and a soap tray on the back.

The local diocese has sent in an exorcist to try to banish any troublemaking evil spirits that may reside in the home, local television reported.

When a man in a Burberry shirt, cap and brown trench coat paid for his bottle of wine at a Queens Quay liquor store on Saturday April 7, he was just another customer stocking up for the weekend. Only later was he suspected of stealing a bottle of scotch.

But it wasn’t just any bottle of scotch. It was a 50-year-old Glenfiddich Single Malt, valued at $26,000, one of only 15 in Ontario and 50 worldwide.

It was also the single most expensive item ever stolen from an Liquor Control Board of Ontario store, said Heather MacGregor, media relations co-coordinator for the LCBO.

“This bottle was displayed in a locked cabinet,” she said, adding that there were other high-priced items stored at that location as well, including seven bottles of Rémy Martin Louis XIII Cognac, valued at $2,800 each, and an $800 bottle of Chateau Margaux vintage wine. “There are quite a few very exclusive and rare products that are offered at that store.”

According to Andrew Ferguson, co-manager and whisky expert at the Calgary-based Kensington Wine Market, the 700-millilitre bottle fetched such a high price because of its rarity. Glenfiddich, one of the best-known and most-decorated scotch distilleries in the world, produces very few bottles in that age range.

“They don’t have a lot of older whisky, and yet they’re the world’s number one selling Single Malt,” he said. “It’s like any luxury good. If the value seems to be high for something it not only creates an incentive for thieves, but it creates an incentive for counterfeiters as well.”

Furious driver who threw away £30 ticket is fined £850… for LITTERING

An angry motorist who screwed up a #30 parking ticket and threw it away has been fined £850 – for LITTERING.

Timothy Sawyer, 64, was slapped with the penalty notice by a PCSO when he parked his Ford Fiesta on a single yellow line in July last year.

A court heard Sawyer screwed the ticket up into a ball and threw it at the officer telling him: “I will f*****g well park here.”

Students of Somerville College, Oxford, whose alumni include Lady Thatcher, plan to boycott a college ball next month if plans go ahead to display a live shark in a tank as entertainment at the party.

Clare Phipps, who graduated in 2011 and is studying for a PhD in London, and Matthew Hawkins, a history graduate, have written, with 10 others, to the college principal, Dr Alice Prochaska, asking her to "please use your authority to prevent any live animals from being used at the ball", which is jointly run by the Somerville and Jesus colleges and is held in the former's dining hall.

"We're primarily concerned about the shark," Phipps said. "We don't know where it came from in the first place, whether it was bred in captivity or captured in the wild, and we can't find out as the committee won't give us the details of the company they hired it from. I am worried about the unnecessary stress for the animal of being transported and lots of people gawping at it.

"There is a difference from a shark in an aquarium because that has an educational purpose, informing people about conservation, and often zoos are involved in breeding programmes and so on. This is about nothing more than showing off. We've got so much money sloshing around we can hire a shark."

The date started as an evening stroll on the beach, but ended in an armed carjacking in a Wendy's parking lot.

Donald Bernard McGee Jr., 19, of Hollywood, courted a Lake Worth woman after the two exchanged text messages and photos and agreed to meet Friday, according to a Boynton Beach Police Department arrest report.

After a walk through the Boynton Ocean Inlet Park, the date ended when they headed to a Wendy's parking lot at around 10 p.m. to wait for McGee's brother to pick him up, the woman told police.

That's when McGee whipped out a gun and demanded she get out of the car, according to the arrest report. The woman said she ran to a nearby BP gas station to flag down a Good Samaritan to call 911 as McGee took off.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — The concept of a “hipster Jesus” has been around for some time as an Internet meme, and now the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn has adopted the idea.

Animal New York late last week posted a photo of an ad on the side of what appears to be a pay phone kiosk, calling Jesus Christ “the Original Hipster.” The advertisement by the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn shows a pair of red Converse shoes under Jesus’ robes.

The ad has appeared at bus stops and phone kiosks throughout Queens and Brooklyn, according to Animal New York.

The diocese discussed the ad in a recent news release, which noted that today, “most Catholics see the church as archaic and not relevant, nor valuable, to their everyday lives.”

Esquimalt is looking into a bylaw that would regulate the use of mascots, while also checking whether the municipality can ban a “bong” mascot from the township’s streets.

Only Coun. Lynda Hundleby voted against the motion, which calls on staff to research bylaw options regarding mascots. While there is merit to discouraging anything contrary to the image of a family-friendly town, Hundleby said she didn’t believe any regulation would withstand a court challenge. A bong is a pipe typically used for smoking marijuana.

“A bong in and of itself is a legal device. Tobacco used in a pipe is legal, as is medical marijuana,” she said, adding that stores that sell bongs are also legal.

The mascot issue was brought up by Coun. Tim Morrison, after the Bong Warehouse deployed a mascot dressed as a bong after opening on Esquimalt Road in December.

Morrison said he received more complaints from residents about the mascot than about sewage.

A cabal of corrupt corrections officers and members of the Black Guerrilla Family gang enjoyed nearly free rein inside the Baltimore City Detention Center, federal authorities allege, smuggling drugs and cellphones into the jail and having sexual relationships that left four guards pregnant.

An indictment unsealed Tuesday names 25 people — including 13 women working as corrections officers — who face racketeering and drug charges. Twenty of the accused also face money-laundering charges.

It alleges that Tavon White, an inmate known as "Bulldog," took control of the prison gang soon after his arrival in 2009 on an attempted-murder charge.
