Prospective GOP candidates for president are leaning heavily into education amid concerns over issues like parental rights and the politicization of school curriculums.
Underscoring how critical an issue it is for Republicans, former President Trump unveiled his education platform on Thursday, calling for cutting federal funds to any education program that involves “critical race theory, gender ideology, or other inappropriate racial, sexual, or political content onto our children.”
The move comes after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R), both seen as top potential challengers to Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, have made headlines in recent weeks with a series of education-related actions.
DeSantis sparked controversy most recently by rejecting an Advance Placement African American studies course earlier this month, while Youngkin launched an investigation into multiple northern Virginia schools for not giving students the news that they had qualified for National Merit Scholarships in a timely fashion.

Patrons trying to enjoy their dinner at a Kentucky restaurant this week were shocked to find a Republican women’s club using the venue to host one of the officers involved in the 2020 police raid that killed Breonna Taylor, according to the local NAACP chapter and two patrons who spoke with news outlets.
At one point, graphic video footage of the raid was allegedly played loudly in the restaurant, where other diners said they could hear it.
“You could hear the gunshots in the footage,” one diner, 34-year-old Cayce Johnson, told The Washington Post. “Our dinner was completely hijacked. We couldn’t hear ourselves at that point.”

Another patron took to Facebook to express her disgust. She described the Republican event as “some kind of loud tribute/rally” for Mattingly and said, “they were speaking very loudly with a microphone.”

Grooming the GOP base and police to be more tribal. Taylor is no longer a middle class martyr to an investigation gone wrong. All the while strict abortion laws will mean more crime and poverty. They diminish her reality and raise the ones that make black people garbage by doing this. And, like a bunch of grade 7 wanton boys, put it on microphone.
GOP used to cloak the racist, authoritarian, oligarchy, increase in inequality
stuff and march around publicly as sober non-radical economic fiscal conservatives and defense hawks. Now they cloak the latter and march around as demagogy authoritarians and say the racist part out loud. This happens because traditional Republicans sensor themselves and the authoritarians have been set free. One would think it would do them in after all the sober fiscal conservative stuff was how they sold themselves to independents. They have lost the last three big elections. But the batshit stuff they do out loud makes us liberals scream and somehow that works for DeSantis in Florida and I can't figure out how or why. Liberal squealing is important somehow. Suggestions welcome.

and Private Equity need the economy to crash as they need corporations and companies, previously successful, to be in distress so they can be gobbled up (stock market is over prriced, bond market gives low returns, real estate has been flooded by private equity, where else are they supposed to go to make money?

it will be Trumptown for the near future. McConnell and DeSantis seem to want to distance themselves but part of the 8% will go back to not voting or voting Democratic like they did in the past. They are the small donors who made Gaetz snd Bobert immune from pressure from big money donors during the House Speaker clown show last week. Their personal relationship to Trump, which they feel they have, is what motivates them, not Republican policies of lower taxes and fewer regulations. Remember 2% is what separates presidential candidates on election day.

In Algeria the most radical jihadists group starting killing each other due to perceived lack of Islamic Jihadist purity till there were none of them left.
Do we have to wait until the Freedom Caucus & MAGA kill a lot of supporters before the regular political obtuse GOP followers go "maybe not - maybe the radicals are narcissistic nihilists and I want a safe and democratic country"? Isn't 2 x more death from covid enough?
