Cotton: Feinstein to be investigated over leaked letter from Ford

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office will be investigated to determine whether it leaked a confidential letter from one of Brett Kavanaugh’s accusers, Sen. Tom Cotton said Sunday.

Cotton, an Arkansas Republican, also said lawyers recommended to Christine Blasey Ford by Democrats will face a Washington, D.C., bar investigation for telling her that Senate Judiciary Committee staffers would not travel to California to interview her about her sexual-assault allegation.

“They have betrayed her,” Cotton said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “She has been victimized by Democrats ... on a search-and-destroy mission for Brett Kavanaugh.”

He also said Democrats would be at fault if women become less likely to report sexual assaults now because they did not keep Ford’s request confidential, as she had asked.

Something that really stood out to me during Kavanaugh's testimony this week was the

facial expressions of the Republican men.

Kavanaugh's opening statement was a study in rage, indignation and raw anger. The emotions he displayed were intense and, at times, unsettling and unnerving.

When the male Republican Senators began their speeches in defense of Kavanaugh (you can't even pretend that they questioned him), they were absolutely snarling.

I kept thinking that if a woman had behaved like this in a similar setting she would have been considered to be hysterical and none of her testimony would have been taken seriously.

I don't know if any of you remember, but a few years back I asked if anyone had a recipe

for a caramel frosting that I remembered from when I was a kid. One of our neighbors made a chocolate Crazy Cake that she topped with a frosting that had the consistency of a soft caramel flavored pudding. My mother had the cake recipe, but not the frosting that she used.

I have found it! My sister and I were talking about it a few days ago and it put me on another search. What if it was a cake filling, not a frosting, and what if it was butterscotch instead of caramel? BINGO!

I made a batch and it is what I've been looking for. I'm posting the recipe I found and the modifications I made.

BUTTERSCOTCH FILLING

1/2 C packed brown sugar
1/4 C cornstarch
1/4 t. salt
1/2 C water
1 T butter

Mix together the brown sugar, cornstarch, salt and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil and stir constantly for 1 minute.
Remove from heat and add the butter. Allow the mixture to cool slightly and spread between layers.

This was much stiffer than I remembered, so after cooking I kept adding hot water until it was the consistency I liked. I used about 1 cup of water in total. You could probably reduce the amount of cornstarch, as well. This made enough to frost an 8 inch square cake.

Nothing would do until I had made a cake and, lo and behold, I had duplicated the taste from childhood.

Twenty years ago this month the Starr Report came out. Let’s review what happened to some of Bill Clinton’s antagonists. (1/7)

One of the House leaders, Henry Hyde, was revealed to have had an extramarital affair of his own. He called it a “youthful indiscretion” because he was, at the time, a mere 41 years old. (2/7)

Fortunately for the GOP, they settled on another replacement, who served for eight years. That man, Dennis Hastert, later served time in a federal prison for molesting young boys when he was a wrestling coach. (5/7)

But at least one of Starr’s young staff attorneys made good. Brett Kavanaugh is likely to become the next justice of the U.S. Supreme Court--unless, that is, someone discovers that he committed sexual assault or witnessed gang rapes while in high school (7/7)
