Corrected: New Jersey Assembly Passes Gay Marriage Bill; Veto Promised

New Jersey’s Assembly voted 42 to 33 on Thursday to approve a gay marriage bill that could pave the way for New Jersey to join six other states where same-sex couples can today legally wed.

To become law, the bill would have to be signed by Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican who has promised to veto the measure.

CORRECTION: An earlier alert gave an incorrect vote tally. There were 42 in favor of the bill, not 41.

A funny thing happened on the way to the morning

I got up and found a surprising message from CC that she had appointed me as a host of this group. I think it's temporary. She is taking a trip.
I'm able to pin threads up now and clean house, too. So if you simply continue to be nice to me, there will be no problem.

I noticed the pinned thread by Tindalos, of early December, about where to hold the contests.
Some of those areas at that time considered no longer exist, and I think that thread has lost its relevancy, because I will run the new contest in GD as always, now that we have GD back.

I'm going to unpin it, for those reasons and just because I can. But I'll wait a little while, like a day or so, in case anyone objects. I'll be watching this note to see if there are comments.

Happy Valentine's Day - my photographer friends

Last year on this day I broke my upper arm. I was in the middle of running a contest, and had to type all lower case in excruciating pain yet somehow pulled it all off. You guys were wonderfully supportive and caring.

Thanks.

The funny thing is I'm in the middle of a contest again this Valentine's day. This year it's a matter of patience and time, and there is no lower case typing and no oxycontin to help me pull it off.

Happy Day to you all, my dear friends.
I'm grateful to have you in my life.

The Golden Rule of Human Interaction: "Do onto others...."

I ran across this quote by Eminem tonight, and it made me think about the Golden Rule of Human Interaction.
It came at the heels of a few comments I have seen about Whitney Houston, and I was disturbed and disgusted by how vile some of us humans can be for no good reason.

I went on line to look at some words about the Golden Rule and found this:

Every religion has their own ideas of what should be considered moral behavior. While many religions differ in their beliefs and rituals, which causes conflicts amongst the religions of the world, most religions share one universal rule, or code of conduct: The Golden Rule.
The Golden Rule, simply stated is, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," in other words, "treat others as you would like to be treated." The religious texts of several religions contain verses that support this concept of reciprocity.
This concept has become a standard moral code, passed on through the generations since the beginning of humanity itself. Versions of this concept have been found in the texts of Confucianism, Christianity, Islam, Baha'i, to name only a few, and is adopted by non-believers as well. What good parent doesn't use The Golden Rule as an example in teaching their children how to act toward others?
The question is why, if so many people around the world agree that The Golden Rule is an exemplary moral code, even going so far as to base laws upon this universal law, do we seem to forget to comply with the most simple rule of human interaction? We all dream of a more peaceful and more accepting world, but the selfish imperfection of humanity gets in the way every time.

One of the most important rules in my life is to speak out when something around me is going on that I cannot agree with. Because if I don't, people will assume I share their prejudices as well as not being able to live with myself.

I'm posting this simply because of the synchronicity of my sadness over the base commentary about Whitney's life and death, and the chance comment I found by Eminem.

Wondering out loud: will the New "Greatest Page" on DU3 bring us our

missing DUers who still camp out on DU2???

I hope so.
I have gone and visited and lurked and seen when the last posting was etc. - I do believe most of them are trickling on over now and I welcome that.

The new Greatest Threads tab that appeared yesterday (thank you again, Earl G et al) has been the biggest change helping me to settle in and finally feel fully at home with DU3.
