Off the coast of Bulgaria, more than a mile beneath the surface of the Black Sea, a team of maritime archaeologists, scientists and surveyors has discovered what could be the world’s oldest intact shipwreck – a 75-foot-long Greek trading vessel carbon-dated to more than 2,400 years ago.

The Black Sea Maritime Archaeology project says it found the wreck in oxygen-free conditions that preserved its components. Its design has previously been seen only on the side of ancient Greek pottery.

The ship was found lying whole with its mast, rudders, and rowing in a “shipwreck graveyard’ that has already revealed over 60 other vessels.

PORT RICHEY, Fla. — The mayor of Port Richey was arrested after law enforcement officers say he shot at Pasco County deputies.

The Pasco Sheriff's Office said around 4:40 a.m. Thursday, SWAT team members were attempting to serve a search warrant at a home on Hayward Lane in Port Richey.

The sheriff's office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Mayor Dale Massad fired two shots at the entry team who he claims he thought was the Port Richey Police Department. Deputies did not shoot back.

“They were detained in part because they had entered Cuba without permission, but the Cuban authorities also negotiated for the defendants to be returned to the United States to face these charges,” wrote Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Philip Jones in a motion to the court.

They wanted to sail to the Bahamas yet ended up in Cuba. On April 1, 2018, Cuban authorities informed the U.S. Coast Guard that the vessel had been detained. They were arrested near the resort town of Varadero on Cuba’s northern coast.

“McNeil stated that after fueling in Cuba they had plans to eventually return to Florida after ‘taking a honeymoon,’ and were hoping to return the vessel to where they found it and avoid any trouble,” according to the criminal complaint.

The Kaisosi was found in part by a network of sailors who keep tabs on stolen vessels and use high-frequency radio and social media to keep in contact.

TAMPA — At a time when millions of Americans are bemoaning their smaller-than-expected tax refunds, consider this:

Ramon Christopher Blanchett of Tampa once got a refund of $980,000. On a reported income of $18,497.

One W-2 showed $17,098 in wages and $1 million of federal income tax withholding. In reality, the complaint says, Blanchett was paid just $2,098 and no tax was withheld.

By this time, the IRS had realized it had a problem. Pursuant to a federal seizure warrant, an IRS special agent took custody of the Lexus and the remaining $919,251 balance in Blanchett's accounts. The IRS is trying to get back another $809, the amount Progressive Insurance refunded to Blanchett after he cancelled his policy because he no longer had the car.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — The U.S. Coast Guard offloaded more than 34,000 pounds of cocaine Tuesday morning in Fort Everglades.

The load of seized drugs is worth an estimated $466 million. The drugs were seized from 21 separate suspected drug smuggling vessels in international waters off the coasts of Mexico and Central and South America.

"The interdiction and disruption of more than 17 tons of cocaine is a result of the collaboration and coordination of multiple Coast Guard and interagency assets to address the complex maritime challenge of Transnational Criminal Organizations,” said Cmdr. Michael Sharp, commanding officer of the cutter Forward.

Cmdr. Sharp said he was extremely proud of all the women and men who made the mission successful.

"It is a direct reflection of how the U.S. Coast Guard delivers mission excellence anytime, anywhere," Sharp added.

TAMPA, Fla. — What's more Florida than a gator?

Well, it would certainly be difficult to top a maternity shoot of a to-be mom breastfeeding a baby gator.

"Last minute practice for baby. Alligators don't like to bottlefeed, apparently...," mom-to-be Lindsey Tuttle wrote in her Facebook post.

Tuttle has gotten the internet's attention with her maternity photo featuring a baby gator, shotgun, a case of Bud Light and a Florida flag. It only adds to the 'Florida' photo with the unzipped jean shorts and rubber boots.
