What has Russia benefited from this war?

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has indicated a goal to develop a futuristic device that would allow humanity to breathe oxygen on Mars as part of its Mars project. This project is part of the agency's Innovative Advanced Concepts initiative.

According to the most recent source, NASA has granted the go signal for early-stage financing of this technology. It would also include the optimal designs for spacesuits suitable for life in space.

The international space agency is working on a technique that will convert the air on Mars into breathing air. This revelation seems like something out of a science fiction novel, yet it's genuinely happening.

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida House on Thursday avoided taking a stance on divesting the state’s $300 million in investments in Russian companies.

During a floor session, state Rep. Andrew Learned, D-Brandon, proposed amending a bill to prohibit the State Board of Administration from investing Florida Retirement System assets in any company, Russian or otherwise, that does business with the Russian government. The move was in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.

But despite bipartisan calls for the state to dump its investment in Russian-based assets — and despite steps to do so by some other states — Florida lawmakers have not.

However, as of February 28, their “most significant holdings” included:

Rosneft, the Russian energy giant;
Sberbank of Russia, the country’s largest lender;
Norilsk Nickel, a Russian mining and smelting company;
Lukoil, an oil producer that also has gas stations in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania;
and Magnit, one of its top grocery chains.

Molly Moorhead’s story, “From USF to Sun City Center, Playboy has ties to Tampa Bay” - written in response to this week’s announcement that Playboy will cease to publish nude photos as of March 2016 - featured a bizarre 1983 photo of an exotic dancer presenting her derriere for inspection by a Pinellas County judge.

We now have the, ahem, story behind the photo, straight from Tampa Bay Times staff photographer Jim Damaske.

First, from Molly's story: A longtime judge in Pinellas County can count Playboy as part of his legacy. In 1983, Judge David Demers was presiding over a trial of three exotic dancers charged with violating Pinellas' anti-nudity ordinance. During the trial, according to a 2001 Times profile of Demers , a dancer bent over in front of the bench to show the judge that her outfit did not expose anything too anatomical. The photo of the scene was republished around the country, including Playboy's "The Year in Sex."

And here's Jim's recollection of the story behind the photo: "I was shooting freelance for the Clearwater Sun and UPI when the Sun got a tip what was going to happen. I got the call. Exotic dancers said that their shorts were too big to show what the undercover officers said they saw. The judge agreed with the dancers after they bent over. The photo went out on the UPI wire, which is how it got picked up everywhere."

A house in Gulfport auctioned off as a non-fungible token on Thursday sold for $654,310, or about 210 ethereum. It’s a first for U.S. real estate, according to real estate transaction firm Propy.

NFTs are typically used for digital collectibles like art and music, where ownership can be transferred and verified through the blockchain — a decentralized and secured log on the internet. In this case, the property rights were transferred to the limited liability corporation Never Forget to HODL LLC. (The phrase HODL means to “hold on for dear life” and is commonly used by cryptocurrency traders.)

The company was minted into an NFT, where the rights to the company and the property are stored on the blockchain. It had to be paid in ethereum, a cryptocurrency used mostly for smart contracts and NFTs, even though the bidding was based on the U.S. dollar. Technically, “A.J.” didn’t buy the house, but rather Never Forget to HODL LLC did.

Leslie Alessandra, the local real estate investor who listed the home, told the Tampa Bay Times she wanted to showcase the real-use applications of the blockchain. Alessandra is also the founder of blockchain company DeFi Unlimited.

A second unfair labor practice complaint was filed Tuesday against the NCAA, this one attempting to capitalize on a September ruling by the National Labor Relations Board that could eventually lead to college athletes becoming employees of their universities.

The California-based National College Players Association (NCPA) filed the complaint with the NLRB naming not only the NCAA but the Pac-12, UCLA, USC, and all Division I football, men's basketball and women's basketball programs as complainants.

"The goal is to affirm college athlete employee status for every FBS football player and Division I basketball player at every public and private university in the nation," the NCPA said in a statement.

The NCPA's move comes three months after the College Basketball Players Association (CPBA) filed a similar unfair labor charge against the NCAA for classifying college players as "student-athletes".

An obscure portion of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution says that public officials cannot serve in any future federal, state, or military office if they engaged in “insurrection or rebellion.” Would that apply to people who participated in the Jan. 6 attack on Congress?

Some legal experts say the clause could be used against former officeholders — up to and including former President Donald Trump — who supported the events of that day.

While the 14th Amendment is best known for enabling African Americans to become citizens of the United States, Section 3 says that no person “shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military” who had previously taken an oath to support the Constitution and then “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”

The language was included “to prevent current and former U.S. military officers, federal officers and state officials who served the Confederacy from serving again in public office unless their disability was removed by at least a two-thirds vote of each house of Congress,” wrote Gerard N. Magliocca, a law professor at Indiana University.
