What Doesn't Kill Roseanne Barr Is Still Making Her Stronger.....

"My political views have pretty much ended my career."

That quote could be attributed to any number of people, but it seems to define no one more accurately than it does Roseanne Barr. Hailing from a new documentary that chronicles the comedian's 2012 presidential bid, the sentiment is an exact encapsulation of a star whose brash cultural identity took a nosedive once it was no longer the subject of a half-hour sitcom.

In truth, Barr's career isn't over, at least not definitively. When you're the star and executive producer of a top-rated, Emmy-winning series that ran for nine years and arguably redefined what a sitcom could be, it takes a lot to pulverize your entire legacy. What it does do, however, at least in the case of Barr's brazen persona, is preclude you from telling a new story that isn't infinitely tied to your offscreen reputation. In her eyes, that began before "Roseanne" even hit the air, back when she debuted the "domestic goddess" stand-up routines that would form the cornerstone of the fictional Roseanne Conner and her family. "I’m a comic, so that’s what we do," she said when The Huffington Post asked what prompted the quote while discussing the documentary, "Roseanne For President!," which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last week.

The movie showcases Barr's efforts to secure a third-party nomination. First it's the Green Party's, because her friend, former Democratic Representative Cynthia McKinney, asked her to "carry the water" as someone who knows what it's like to come from a working-class family with no direct lineage to wealth or politics. Barr was unsuccessful with the Green Party, so she moved on to the Peace and Freedom Party, a left-wing group that first gained momentum for opposing the Vietnam War in the late 1960s. Securing that nomination, Barr appeared on the ballot in the three states that recognize Peace and Freedom -- California, Florida and Colorado -- and came in sixth place during the general election.

Charles Koch: We may back several GOP candidates in primaries

Charles Koch said he is considering throwing his political might into the Republican presidential primary for the first time and is likely to provide financial help to several contenders before settling on a single candidate.

Koch, his brother David and their team have identified five candidates who have the right message and "a good chance of getting elected," he told USA TODAY in an exclusive interview at Koch Industries' headquarters. They are Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Marco Rubio of Florida.

"Those are the ones we have talked to the most and who seem to be the possible leaders," he said.

"What we've told them all is that right now, we're not supporting anyone," Koch said. "We're telling them that if they want our support, one way to get it is articulating a good message to help Americans get a better understanding and a better appreciation of how certain policies … will benefit them and will benefit all America."

The Kochs run Koch Industries, a multibillion-dollar privately held conglomerate with interests in the energy industry, as well as building supplies and other products. They have been active donors to Republican candidates, which has led to numerous attacks from Democratic politicians, such as Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, and their supporters.

For the first time, Charles Koch also outlined what share of his network's staggering $900 million, two-year budget would be devoted to politics. He said only a third of that amount — roughly $300 million — would be spent directly on electoral politics in 2016, including federal and state elections. He said there's no breakdown of exactly how the political portion of the budget will be divided.

The $300 million would rival the almost $400 million the Republican National Committee raised and spent in the 2012 election cycle.

Obama: Elizabeth Warren Is Simply Wrong On TPP

President Barack Obama criticized Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and others who are opposed to a new trade deal that he is negotiating on Tuesday, saying that his opponents are simply wrong on the facts of the deal.

Warren and other Democrats have raised concerns about the deal being negotiated with other 11 Pacific countries, called the Trans-Pacific Partnership, saying that it could worsen income inequality and allow private companies to challenge domestic financial regulations before an international tribunal. Those challenges, Warren and other critics argue, could undermine key financial, environmental and other regulations.

Obama disputed that was true during a town hall hosted by MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Tuesday.

"I love Elizabeth. We're allies on a whole host of issues, but she's wrong on this," Obama said. "When you hear folks make a lot of suggestions about how bad this trade deal is, when you dig into the facts, they are wrong."

While Obama criticized Warren for being wrong on the facts of the deal, it's difficult to know exactly what the deal contains because his administration has deemed the negotiations to be classified.

Kerber rallies past Madison Keys to win Family Circle Cup

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Angelique Kerber didn't really like playing on clay. That's changed in a big way Sunday when the fifth-seeded German rallied past American Madison Keys to win the Family Circle Cup.

The 27-year-old Kerber trailed 4-1 in the final set, yet took six of the last seven games to pull out a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory for her fourth career WTA title and first on the slow, gunky coating power players love to hate.

"You know, it was never my favorite surface," Kerber said. "But it's changed in the last year. I knew that I can play also on clay and it's good also for my (overall) game because I'm playing defensive and being aggressive."

Kerber showed both those qualities against the power-hitting Keys, who came into the final without dropping a service game. Kerber broke Keys in the first game and five times overall, relentlessly sending 120 mph serves and sizzling groundstrokes back that had gone for winners earlier in the week.

Still, it was a frustrated Kerber in the third set who needed a good talking to from coach Torben Beltz to refocus and re-strategize. He told Kerber to up her aggressiveness and take the game to Keys, something that happened early on but not in the middle part of the match.
