I have another thread exploring a childhood incident that I think left me with a life long aversion to injections -
it's not the needle that bothers me - it's the actual injection.
I have six children, and used to line them up at the doctor's every fall for flu shots (lots of asthma in the family)

Do you know what it's like to talk six squirmy kids through their flu shots, then have to stand and smile and get yours?

I got my shingles shot this January - on the third try! The first time the pharmacy was out. The second time the pharmacist wasn't there. On the third try, I had to sit and wait 25 minutes before someone was freed up to give the injection.


Thinking about it - I'm probably about due for my tetanus booster!

My brother had a border collie, and he trained it to sit around and do nothing.

Not really; he had to start raising a flock of ducks to give the dog something to herd other than school buses! Sometimes behaviors are bred into a dog!

Any older nurses here? We have a bit of a family mystery-

My sister and I both recall that when we were about ages 2-7, maybe a year or so younger, c.1960, my Mom took all five of us down to the doctor's to get a shot. The injection site was our buttocks, not our arms. It doesn't seem likely to have been a standard immunization. My sister thinks we'd been exposed to something - strep? rubella? Any ideas what this could have been all about? We don't recall being sick, but I recall having a terrible headache afterward - possibly a migraine! To this day, I can have blood drawn or donate blood, but the thought of an injection makes me queasy!

Some questions about stop and frisk -

There is a serious problem in Buffalo of young black men shooting other young black men. It happens in Syracuse, too. So my question is this; was this a significant problem in NYC before stop and frisk became policy? If so, is it still a problem?

Did stop and frisk turn up illegal weapons when it first went into effect?

Does stop and frisk turn up any illegal weapons now?

If stop and frisk prevents murders, is it justified?

If justified, should it be stepped down from the current frequency?

Why did no one ever tell me about this major problem with crock pots!?!?!

"Pope Francis did not denounce me to Argentinian junta, says priest"

Accusations that Pope Francis denounced two priests to Argentina's military junta during the 1970s have been denied by one of the survivors in a boost to the reputation of the new pontiff.

Francisco Jalics, who now lives in a German monastery, issued an online statement on Wednesday to clear up what he said were misinterpretations of his earlier comments about the role played by the pope in his five-month incarceration by the navy.

He said he was addressing reports that he and another Jesuit priest, Orlando Yorio, were imprisoned because the leader of their order, Jorge Bergoglio – as the pope was known until last week – passed on information about them to the authorities.

"I myself was once inclined to believe that we were the victims of a denunciation," Jalics said. "[But] at the end of the 90s, after numerous conversations, it became clear to me that this suspicion was unfounded. It is therefore wrong to assert that our capture took place at the initiative of Father Bergoglio."
