Jeb!

I will say this and I mean it:

I have to hand it to Jeb!, for I could never have figured out how to piss away fifty million dollars of rich assholes' money... in a primary race... in an off-election year....

It's true that the reality show narcissist and the belief-driven brain surgeon have been saying the stupider things, but it is Jeb! who is doing the stupidest things. Jeb! Bush is trailing and losing ground in the worst Presidential field I've seen in over three decades of observation. That is a self-evident problem that speaks volumes about Jeb!'s competence.

But that's only the beginning because Jeb! is dealing from the bottom of his own stacked deck and STILL losing, and still losing ground. This was supposed to be a walkover for Jeb!, and these are just some of the advantages he brought with him, and promptly squandered:

Jeb! has the most money (Trump isn't dumb enough to spend his own) and has been spending it like his brother running up a no-bid Halliburton contract;

Jeb! had his pick of the best staff from three close-enough-to-steal-it Presidential campaigns, with a pre-existing ground game in every single state;

Jeb! has a brother who gets the most coveted political information in the world: a copy of the Presidential Daily Briefing. The legality and ethics of sharing that information of course plays no role in the matter, since we're talking about members of a crime family. But for whatever reason they're not making use of it--probably because President Obama took out the bullet points and now the Bush boys can't actually understand what the Briefing says. Jeb! should be the best-informed candidate, and maybe he is, but his target demographic is too dumb to know it;

Jeb! is perfectly positioned to run against all of those candidates. He's a former governor, and the GOP loves governors; he's running against FIVE Senators, four of whom are going to lose the election for themselves by their votes coming up in the next two weeks. Three of the other governors he had to run against have already dropped out. He doesn't even need to kiss Carly Fiorina's ass because he's got his own running mate, Pam Bondi, already picked out.

Jeb! has been planning this run for SIX YEARS, if not twice that, and this is his plan. This! The "lose to the racist circus conductor" plan.

My guess is that Jeb!'s problem is that he probably really is marginally smarter than his father and his brother--but he's still a fucking moron because a person can be smarter than W and still have a double-digit IQ. He's smart enough to know that he's smarter than they, but not smart enough to run his campaign by himself or even with minimal input from himself, because of that Bush reverse-Midas touch that we all know so well.

But don't count Jeb! out just yet. There are over 40 million emails from the Bush administration that were supposed to be turned over to the National Archives, a huge amount of them revolving around anthrax and 9/11 and two trillion dollars in missing American money, for which everyone from the former President on down is felony-liable (not for the crimes but for the missing emails, which is a violation of the NARA Act). It's an obvious criminal cover-up and if things don't start breaking Jeb!'s way, everyone involved except Dick Cheney will could down the tubes for it (Cheney is a dual citizen of an Arab nation now, so he could take all those bribes from Halliburton, and he never has to return to the US, especially not to testify or face trial.)

So with infinite money, multinational power, and the spur of criminal indictment digging into his fat arse, the economy just might crash, gas just might go back over four bucks a gallon, and other candidates' planes just might fall out of the sky. That's about the sort of thing Jeb is going to need to get close.

But he only needs to get close, doesn't he?

But he'll be back....

But he'll be back,

When the election season is new,

And he'll have more bad ideas to spew,

And Republicans will ask, "what the fuck's he talking about?",

We. Will. Too.

He needs to shut up and win his stupid election.

I am really rooting for this guy, as should we all. He's got all the qualities we Democrats want a Republican Speaker to have: no damned sense and never at peace with his own rabid herd.

But he's in danger of losing the position of Speaker to someone smarter and better qualified. Please, tell your gerrymandered Republican Congressperson to support Kevin McCarthy today!

Edit: Dammit. I should have kept my mouth shut.

Yess! He's gonna be the best GOP Speaker yet!

The best for us and the worse for them. I think this is already partial confirmation of my theory that the more right wing the Speaker, the stupider and less effective he will be as Speaker.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for this fellow, because he's a doofus and the opponent we would pick if we could.

The Narcissist's "moment of clarity."

That's the wonderful justice of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. As long as the subject believes his own bullshit about himself, he has little to no empathy for others, is limited only by what he thinks he can get away with, and can behave as ruthlessly as a sociopath.

But inevitably, the Narcissist has brutally self-aware moments where he realizes that he is a fraud, that everything he has done has left a trail of disaster behind him, and the walls close in, and that's when he spends half a month "vacationing" at Camp David while his sycophants fluff him back up, if you're W Bush.

That's why W still can't look himself in the face except through a shitty painting of his eyes in a mirror in the shower, and now that he's universally acknowledged as one of the worst leaders ever, the furies will never cease tearing at his soul, for the rest of his miserable life.

Trump won't remain realistic and depressed for long before he realizes that if he can only just believe his own crap, there is no limit to the damage he can cause, and he will be off to the races again.

Edit: The theory permits predictions, so I'll make one: Something is coming out that's gonna hurt him fairly bad, and he will retreat into his tent like a spurned Alexander the Great for seven to ten days. Then, he's gonna blow up in the exact same way he did before, renounce everything he said between now and the first week of October, and try to claw his way back into it by being even more of a douche.

Second edit: The important thing to know about NPD is that once the narcissist reaches a level of publicity and adulation where The Don is right now, he will inevitably demand MORE of it. There's no plan here; this is just a predictable cycle of the personality disorder.

I'm okay with this guy McCarthy.

My theory--and god am I going to be pissed if I'm wrong--my theory is that the farther to the right a politician is, the stupider he is (and the more likely he is a "he&quot . A foolish Republican Speaker is exactly what we've enjoyed more or less since Gingrich, but Hastert and Boehner were both smarter than their flock, especially the far-rights.

This guy McCarthy is all-the-way right, which suggests to me that he's already started with a cliquish and plotting staff, an actual Rolodex of contacts instead of a database, and of course no accountants, science people, or "math guys" within easy reach. One maneuvers with facts and knowledge of the rules in the House, and if you don't have either of those things, well.... It's predictable.

The Republicans will continue to be unable to assert legislative authority over a clever President and even a strong minority in the Senate, as we have already seen. We'll likely continue to retain that dubious edge if any of the current Democratic candidates (or Joe Biden) wins.

Of course, I also have a related theory, which is that as a politician's politics approaches the ideal right wing, the chances of that person being inextricably involved in sexual and/or financial scandal approaches certainty. And this doofus is all-the-way right, so it's either a live boy or a dead girl, as the insiders used to say....

An early fight between the fat guys is possible.

I consider Jeb! to be the primary suspect in the question of who, exactly, dropped Bridge-gate on Christie, and if they don't know for sure I'm sure the Christie people also think Jeb! is the culprit. Long ago I predicted that the mole would wind up in Jeb!'s camp, so we'll see about that soon enough, too....

The reason Jeb! needed to torpedo Christie so early was because of all these mooks Christie was the only one with a solid long term plan that was showing results.

Christie used a Senatorial appointment to gain his personal representative permanent Senate floor access, and carefully played his cards to win himself the Chair of the most powerful lobbyist group in the US, the National Governors' Association. He has surely been using that position to solidify his national network and also freeze out most other potential gubernatorial candidates (remember that Republican voters are very partial to governors over other politicians, probably because of the authoritarianism their offices command).

One possible strike back would be for Christie to secretly back the entry of yet another candidate into the fray: current Florida governor and nakedly ambitious sociopath Rick Scott. Christie could use Scott as a poop-throwing proxy, and Scott's doomed candidacy would be sure to ablate and disaffect a few Florida voters away from Jeb!, and also do us a favor at the same time, so let's hope for that.

Remember that Richard Scarry story?

Where they keep packing vermin into the airplane until it splits down the seam, and the boa constrictor has to hold the plane together so that it can fly?

Well, the Republican Party is not lacking in snakes, so there's always room for one more.

Chafee ain't no damned Democrat.

He was the guy you could count on to come down on your side, when it didn't fucking count.

Look at his voting record and you will see that Chafee's votes against the herd only came down when that bill was sure to pass (thanks in large part to fake Democrats on the other side of the Senate aisle, but that's another story). Use of force in Iraq; same-sex marriage; partial-birth abortion; Medicare Part D; blah blah blah. Bullshit.

Look at where it counted like in packing the courts with insane judges or not investigating W for his myriad crimes or approving criminal budgets which didn't account for war expenses, and he was all for it, every time, the good little soldat making sure that the criminals in charge got rich and safely away.

Fuck that guy. He deserves only our scorn, and we would be fools to imagine someone this morally corrupted could serve honorably as a Democrat. Mark my words on that, he will dishonor our party as surely as he did theirs.
