Georgia To End Controversial Step In Voter Roll Deletions

This is good news https://www.wabe.org/georgia-end-controversial-step-voter-roll-deletions/

Georgia’s Secretary of State’s office will “instruct” local elections officials to automatically update addresses for people who move within the same county as part of a settlement reached in a lawsuit filed by the ACLU of Georgia against Secretary of State Brian Kemp, and the Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections.

In the short term, the mutual agreement means the information of 35,000 Georgians will be updated. It will also make voting easier in the future for people who move within the same county, said Sean Young, legal director with the ACLU of Georgia.

“If someone’s address isn’t updated they may show up at the wrong polling place,” Young said. “They’re supposed to be given an opportunity at that point to go ahead and vote and have the opportunity to change their address at the polling site. But sometimes what happens is the voter gets frustrated and then they’re turned away. They look for their correct polling place and they may not have enough time to find the correct polling place.”

Last year, a pool of 168,941 registered voters who moved within the same county were sent notices by the Secretary of State’s office. If they did not respond within 30 days, they would have been listed as “inactive,” triggering a process that could ultimately result in their name being removed from the voter rolls.

Democratic rebuttal calls Nunes memo deliberately misleading

Source: NBC News

A top House Democrat is challenging the core conclusion of the memo released by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes on Friday, calling the allegation that the Justice Department and FBI withheld key details as they sought a secret surveillance warrant on former Trump adviser Carter Page “deliberately misleading and deeply wrong on the law.”

NBC News has exclusively obtained a six-page rebuttal to the Nunes memo from Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, which was to be circulated to all House Democrats on Saturday.

Given his senior position, Nadler is one of the small number of lawmakers who has viewed the highly-sensitive documents that are the basis of Nunes’ memo.

Trump fans go ballistic on Trey Gowdy after he says the Nunes memo doesnt discredit the Mueller pro

Trump fans go ballistic on Trey Gowdy after he says the Nunes memo doesn’t discredit the Mueller probe. Gowdy actually read the FISA application https://www.rawstory.com/2018/02/trump-fans-go-ballistic-trey-gowdy-says-nunes-memo-doesnt-discredit-mueller-probe/

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) on Friday said that the memo written by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) raised some concerns about the process by which FISA warrants are granted — but he also made sure to emphasize that special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation is entirely legitimate.

“As I have said repeatedly, I also remain 100 percent confident in Special Counsel Robert Mueller,” Gowdy wrote on Twitter. “The contents of this memo do not — in any way — discredit his investigation.”

Devin Nunes didnt read the intel behind his own memo

Nunes wrote a memo on a FISA application that he did not even read http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/devin-nunes-didnt-read-the-intel-behind-his-own-memo

Just to flesh this out a bit, the warrant in question relates to Carter Page, who served as a foreign policy adviser to Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign, and someone who’s been accused of acting as an agent of a foreign power (in this case, Russia). Nunes’ memo is reportedly based on the idea that the FBI and the Justice Department were wrong to do court-approved surveillance of Carter just because he’d been targeted by a Russian spy ring, made multiple trips to Russia, met high-ranking Russian officials in Moscow, publicly criticized U.S. sanctions against the Putin government, and was advising Russia’s preferred American presidential candidate.

Intelligence officials made the case for that surveillance to a FISA court judge with specific information. Nunes, while making the case in his memo against that surveillance, could have read the underlying intelligence, but didn’t.

To be sure, this angle isn’t altogether new. Nunes’ decision not to read the materials himself became clear when the transcript of Monday’s debate in the House Intelligence Committee was released. Indeed, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the panel’s ranking member, told Rachel on the show this week, “What’s important to realize is the chairman of this committee who’s pushing this memo out hasn’t even read the underlying materials himself. So, he can’t vouch for the accuracy or the inaccuracy as this case maybe of his own work product.”
It doesn’t inspire confidence, does it?

Postscript: It’s worth noting for context that Trey Gowdy, who did read the classified materials that Nunes didn’t read, unexpectedly announced his retirement the day after the committee voted to release the memo.
