Kemp Blasts 'Outside Agitators' After Scrutiny Of Policy Blocking 53K From Voting

The term outside agitator has a long history dating back to the Jim Crow days. Freedom riders and persons attempting to register non-whites in the south were often called outside agitators. Kemp is using the Jim Crow terminology today because he was caught https://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/brian-kemp-outside-agitators-voter-registration

As Yahoo News’ Jon Ward points out, the term “outside agitators” has a racially tinged history and was used by segregationists in the South.

Though Kemp was perhaps referring to the national media and his gubernatorial opponent’s out-of-state supporters, he used a racially charged term to defend a policy viewed as an attempt to keep low-income and minority residents from voting.

“Despite what you hear or read, the numbers are clear. While outside agitators disparage this office and falsely attack us, we have kept our heads down and remained focused on ensuring secure, accessible, and fair elections for all voters,” Kemp said in the statement. “The fact is that it has never been easier to register to vote and get engaged in the electoral process in Georgia, and we are incredibly proud to report this new record.”

The statement touting the voter registration statistics came after records obtained by the Associated Press earlier this week revealed that a secretary of state’s office policy kept 53,000 people from registering to vote. The policy allows the state to delay or block the registrations of residents when information on their voter registration form does not match exactly with existing state records

Texas cops arrest Democratic campaign worker after asking his candidate's party affiliation

I live near Waller and the chair of the Waller County Democratic Party is a friend. Waller is home to Texas Prairie View A&M which is a HBCU that has been the subject of a great deal of voter suppression and litigation. Waller is a mainly white county and the county government tend to be mainly very very white redneck idiots. This is also the town where Sandra Bland was killed or died.

The local yokels in Waller have tried to suppress the vote. There is a SCOTUS opinion to the effect that Waller can not prevent Prairie View students from voting merely because they are not white and the fact that they are only students. Waller is a very racist little town full of racist assholes.

The Waller county govt has a new way to try to keep Prairie View students from voting and the civil rights attorney running in that congressional district was trying to stop this without litigation. He sent his field director to deliver a letter and the field director was arrested for being Jewish and a Democrat.

Georgia NAACP readies lawsuit against Kemp over voter registration

This is the first of a couple of lawsuits to be filed https://www.politico.com/story/2018/10/11/georgia-naacp-voter-registration-lawsuit-842679

The Georgia NAACP is preparing to sue Secretary of State Brian Kemp, the Republican nominee for governor, in response to a report that Kemp's office has put on hold tens of thousands of voter registration applications, most of them from African-Americans, ahead of the election.

The injunction would seek to reopen voter registration in Georgia to ensure that 53,000 registrants on hold in Kemp's office — and possibly others affected by an outage of the Georgia Department of Driver Services and the state's voter registration website — would be allowed to register for the upcoming election.

The move was confirmed by to two people with knowledge of the NAACP of Georgia's plans. The last day to register to vote was Tuesday.

The strict policies enforced by Kemp's office for voter registration and verification have been under scrutiny in his campaign against Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams, who once ran a nonprofit focused on registering new voters.
