Politifact makes my head want to explode sometime. Check this latest one out.

"GOP promise to repeal Obamacare blocked by Democrats (emphasis mine)"

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2012/jul/25/rating-GOP-promises-health-care/

It also blames the failure of the Republicans to pass any potential "replacement" for PPACA on Democrats as well despite the fact, of course, that they have no replacement plan anywhere near comparable to PPACA- basically they have no plan at all. Politifact is just evil! Will Politifact now be revising all of their ratings on President Obama's promises if they were blocked by Republicans? I think I might actually e-mail them on this. I don't think that I EVER saw them qualify any of their ratings on President Obama's broken promises like this.

I don't know if it is resonating

Romney is still perceived as *stronger* on the economy but I'm not really sure I know why that is since nobody really knows much about his as-yet-unrevealed master plan to fix the economy. If I had to speculate, I'd say that Romney is favored just because he's not President Obama and some people seem to think that all that it would take to fix the economy (or any other problem) is just to go out and get a new POTUS while ignoring all of the other structural problems that are contributing to our economic doldrums. I'd like to believe that people are smarter than Romney and the Republicans think we are and realize that it's folly to believe that businesses just grow on trees without any help or assistance from the government (i.e. everybody) but a lot of people have been brainwashed into believing the superiority of the private sector "job creators" and the inferiority and incompetence of the federal government, so they might not "get" the connection. I think that President Obama's campaign, every time Romney shows off another one of these "self-made" businesses, should put out press releases showing the tax abatements, SBA loans, etc. these "self-made" businesses received to hit the point home that it's impossible for capitalism to initiate and thrive without the government.

+/-30% of the American public, apparently

IMHO far too many people fail to treat their votes as carefully and with as much consideration as they do their money. What sickens me even more is that not only are so many people ALREADY ready and willing to vote for a complete cipher pretty much because they hate Barack Obama with the heat of a thousand stars but that so many people are (also) willing to put up with and vote for (and put in charge) a bunch of people for Congress that have essentially refused to do their jobs for the past 3-4 years and are, in fact, PROUD of themselves not doing their jobs. What kind of employer tolerates THAT? If we're supposed to be in charge of our country and our fate, a lot of us are IMHO doing a piss-poor job of overseeing our "employees" (i.e. the people we elect to govern us).

+1

I wish somebody would too. I assume that some people must simply think that, because things aren't all sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows after 4 years of President Obama, it's time to try................somebody else and Romney fits the bill because, well, he's NOT President Obama? If asked, I would not be able to explain what Romney's plan to turn the economy around is. I guess that, for some people, just having somebody say that they have a plan to do something to make things better is good enough for them, I suppose?

I'm really surprised

that that one Republican State Legislator- the one that crowed about helping deliver the state for Romney in November- isn't being scrutinized more though I guess it's good that DOJ is taking some action in Pennsylvania. Kind of brings back bad memories of 2004 with the CEO of Diebold(?) promising to "deliver" Ohio for George W. Bush.

Do most people realize (if they care to think about it at all) how much effort is required to actually engage in voter fraud? Republicans tend to conflate voter registration fraud with voting fraud and, I guess, that works with most people even though fraudulent voter registrations do NOT equal actual votes and that most people don't have the time, energy, or money to vote several times at several different locations, constituting fraud. Besides "too many people voting" is hardly the problem in this country.

Rational?

How?

This is just more of the "the easy availability of and access to guns that most Americans currently enjoy had nothing to do with tragedies like this" meme that pops up every time something like this happens. My question to arguments like these are, so what? It doesn't matter IMHO whether or not restricting the availability of and access to guns will prevent EVERY attack on innocent civilians or that people will always find a way to kill other people if they want to. The point is, why make it easier? It's easier to walk into a movie theater with a weapon like a gun to mow down a bunch of people than to knife a bunch of people to death and/or figure out a way, say, to plant explosives in a busy cineplex. Why not do what we can to make it LESS LIKELY that people like Holmes have easy access to weapons that have the capacity to easily kill multiple people? As much as I respect people's right to own guns for self-defense, hunting, etc., I still don't get why they HAVE to be quick and easy to get. I mean, people have to jump through a ton of hoops to drive or, in some states, even to vote. I don't understand why we shouldn't make people have to jump through a few hoops to buy guns, ammo, etc? This is the USA, NOT third world countries filled with roving gangs like Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, etc.

Republicans seem to want a rigged playing field in their favor

whether it's in regards to campaign funds (support Citizens United) or transparency (oppose DISCLOSE Act, don't make Romney release his tax records) and they will do anything to get their way.

"threatened her electoral chances"

how about threatening a person's LIFE?! She has gone full "Glenn Beck" on us and is, like him, instigating loonies on the basis of crackpot conspiracy theories and she's a member of Congress no less! Very creepy.

He could theoretically lose Virginia, Ohio AND Florida

and STILL win, albeit by a "too close for comfort" margin. 270towin.com is a really good site to play around with. The truth of the matter is that President Obama has many paths to 270. Romney has to rely on the wind REALLY being at his back in order to win in November. Good turnout by Dems on Election Day 2012 should be able to deliver a second term for President Obama. In my estimation, something catastrophic would have to happen to President Obama or Mitt would have to gain some serious "Mitt-mentum" to win in November. The bigger problem that I see is what kind of House and Senate we might end up with in November and whether or not President Obama and Democrats in Congress will spend more time playing offense or defense.
