Donald Trump defends Islamophobia: People who knocked down the World Trade Center didnt fly back to SwedenRepublican front-runner Donald Trump spoke to 60 Minutes about his feelings about Muslims, beginning with his remarks at a recent New Hampshire event in which he claimed that hes going to be looking into how to get rid of them.
Scott Pelley asked why he let [it] pass when a questioner at the town hall said that we have a problem in this country and its Muslims. Trump replied that that was only part of what he said, and that he went on to say other things.
But the bigotry part? Pelley asked.
Look, most of that question was about Obama, Trump replied, clearly unwilling to alienate his dwindling base by acknowledging that Islamophobia might be a bad thing. I dont have to defend President Obama, hes not going to defend me.
It was a testing moment for a man running for president, Pelley said.
I dont think so! Trump said.

Not just a bigot, but an uneducated one. I suppose that covers most of them.....

The pro-life case for Bernie Sanders
by Joel
Disclaimer: This is not an endorsement for Bernie Sanders. It is merely an attempt to show there are multiple ways to approach a pro-life stance without banning abortion.
The American tradition of trying to pick our next president well over a year before the election is in full swing. Still months away from a primary candidates are already coming out of the woodwork and, true to form, appealing to the most extreme in their respective groups (or in the case of Donald Trump, the most extreme are running for president).
Still, the one candidate who has my attention is Bernie Sanders. No other candidate really grabs my attention, makes me think, or dare I say it excites me and gives me hope. While Im not a Democratic Socialist (as I think Socialism is only slightly better than Capitalism), I do think what he offers is vastly closer to my own economic beliefs than any other candidate. His stance on war and diplomacy is a breath of fresh air. While hes not middle class, hes also not a millionaire or billionaire, meaning hes closer to the struggles of the middle class than anyone out there. Essentially, for all intents and purposes, Sanders is kind of my dream candidate, except for one thing:
Hes very pro-choice while Im very pro-life.
And when it comes to matters of life its not exactly a small issue. While Im not a one-issue voter, voting on life is more important than taxes or even income inequality. And we cant hide behind the excuse that since Roe v. Wade will most likely never be overturned, it doesnt matter who we elect; the president can hand out executive orders concerning abortion. A pro-life president can make abortion restrictive while a pro-choice president can loosen restrictions. So it does matter.
How, then, can someone who is pro-life such as myself (rabidly so I might add), support Bernie Sanders without any sense of cognitive dissonance?

Chernobyl’s Hot Mess, “the Elephant’s Foot,” Is Still Lethal
300 seconds will produce a relatively quick death, which is better than many alternatives.
After just 30 seconds of exposure, dizziness and fatigue will find you a week later. Two minutes of exposure and your cells will soon begin to hemorrhage; four minutes: vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. 300 seconds and you have two days to live.
By the fall of 1986, the emergency crews fighting to contain the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl made it into a steam corridor beneath failed reactor Number 4. Inside this chamber they found black lava that had oozed straight from the core. The most famous formation was a solid flow that their radiation sensors firmly told them not to approach. With cameras pushed in from around a corner, the workers dubbed the dimly lit mass the Elephants Foot. According to readings taken at the time, the still hot portion of molten core put out enough radiation to give a lethal dose in 300 seconds.
The Elephants Foot could be the most dangerous piece of waste in the world.

Maths whizz solves a master's riddle
Terence Tao successfully attacks the Erdős discrepancy problem by building on an online collaboration.
Chris Cesare
A mathematical puzzle that resisted solution for 80 years including computerized attempts to crack it seems to have yielded to a single mathematician.
Terence Tao, a mathematician at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a winner of the Fields Medal in 2006, submitted a paper1 to the arXiv preprint server on 17 September that claims to prove a number theory conjecture posed by mathematician Paul Erdős in the 1930s.
Terry Tao just dropped a bomb, tweeted Derrick Stolee, a mathematician at Iowa State University in Ames, the day the paper detailing the solution appeared online.
Like many puzzles in number theory, the Erdős discrepancy problem is simple to state but devilishly difficult to prove. Erdős, who died in 1996, speculated that any infinite string of the numbers 1 and ?1 could add up to an arbitrarily large (positive or negative) value by counting only the numbers at a fixed interval for a finite number of steps.

Artwork showing Sylvanian Families terrorised by Isis banned from free speech exhibition
Visitors to a London exhibition celebrating freedom of expression this week found plenty of familiar taboo-busting work, from Jamie McCartneys The Great Wall of Vagina, an eight-foot long cast featuring the genitals of 400 women, to Kubra Khademis video of an eight-minute walk she made through Kabul in Afganistan, dressed in lushly contoured body armour. But they will have looked in vain for one work detailed in the catalogue by an artist known only as Mimsy.
Isis Threaten Sylvania is a series of seven satirical light box tableaux featuring the childrens toys Sylvanian Families. It was removed from the Passion for Freedom exhibition at the Mall galleries after police raised concerns about the potentially inflammatory content of the work, informing the organisers that, if they went ahead with their plans to display it, they would have to pay £36,000 for security for the six-day show.
In Isis Threaten Sylvania, rabbits, mice and hedgehogs go about their daily life, sunning themselves on a beach, drinking at a beer festival or simply watching television, while the menacing figures of armed jihadis lurk in the background. Far away, in the land of Sylvania, rabbits, foxes, hedgehogs, mice and all woodland animals have overcome their differences to live in harmonious peace and tranquility. Until Now, reads the catalogue note. MICE-IS, a fundamentalist Islamic terror group, are threatening to dominate Sylvania, and annihilate every species that does not submit to their hardline version of sharia law.
The decision to remove the work from Passion for Freedom came after the Mall Galleries consulted the police, who raised a number of serious concerns regarding the potentially inflammatory content of Mimsys work. The gallery cited a clause in the exhibition contract which allowed it the right to request removal of an artwork.
