Psychic: 'Mental forces' to blame for bending iPhones

LONDON, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- An Israeli psychic known for purportedly bending metal objects with his mind says Apple's bending iPhone 6 woes could be explained by "mental forces."

Uri Geller said during a visit to England there were "two possible reasons for the phenomenon" that has been dubbed "Bendgate" by unhappy iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners who discovered the phones bent after spending time in a user's pants pocket.

"Either the device is extremely thin so that it bends when even a weak force is implied on it -- which is hard to believe for Apple has been conducting many tests and experiments -- or the energy and excitement of the millions of consumers stirred up their mental forces causing the iPhone to bend," Geller told MarketWatch.

Geller said he is willing to help Apple shirk the blame for the bending devices.

"I offer Apple to hire me in order to explain to the world that the phenomenon is not at all the company's fault."

Couple in animal 'crush' videos get life term

A La Union court has handed down a guilty verdict against a couple who allegedly produced a series of "crush videos" where scantily clad girls stepped on and crushed animals to death.

In a statement, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said the San Fernando Regional Trial Court Branch 30 found guilty Dorma Ridon and her husband, Vicente Ridon, of child abuse (Republic Act 7610), animal welfare crimes (RA 8485), human trafficking (RA 9208), and wildlife-protection crimes (RA 9147).

The Ridons, who have been in jail since June 2012, were sentenced to life imprisonment. They were also ordered to pay P9 million.

"This case is a victory not just for PETA Asia but also for Philippine law enforcement and people around the world who despise cruelty to animals," said PETA Asia Vice President Jason Baker.

Frothy Mix Returns!

Rick Santorum helped drag out the 2012 Republican primary, sending Mitt Romney limping into the general election.

Santorum’s lesson: Get in even earlier in 2016.

The iconoclast social conservative is already taking the temperature of potential donors. His big money benefactor, Foster Friess, still adores him. He’s headed to Iowa in October to meet with key conservative activists. And he is growing his grass-roots network beyond early primary states.

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus earlier this year called the primary process a “complete disaster,” promising to slash the number of debates to prevent “the traveling circus” from hijacking the race as Santorum, Newt Gingrich and others did in 2012. The primary season pushed Romney further and further to the right as he burned through cash, instead of answering the Obama machine’s attacks on him.

War on terror needs years, says Saudi FM

The Associated Press, United Nations
Sunday, 28 September 2014
Saudi Arabia's foreign minister said Saturday that the war against extremists in the Middle East may take years and must not stop before all terrorist organizations are eliminated.

Saud al-Faisal, whose country is one of five Arab countries taking part alongside the United States in airstrikes targeting the Islamic State group in Syria, also called for more decisive policies and decisions to fight terrorism.

The Saudi official did not speak before the annual U.N. General Assembly of world leaders, but his speech was distributed to the media.

"We face a very dangerous situation today. Terrorism has evolved from cells to armies and from threatening specific spots to nations," he said.
