MOSCOW
Out-of-town money pouring into South Florida real estate is as old as Henry Flagler.
But the tale of Igor Zorin offers a 21st-century twist with all the weirdness modern Miami has to offer: Russian cash, a motorcycle club named after Russias powerful special forces and a condo tower branded by Donald Trump.
Zorin is a Russian government official whos spent nearly $8 million on waterfront South Florida homes, hardly financially prudent given his bureaucrats salary of $75,000 per year. He runs a state-owned broadcasting company that, among other duties, operates sound systems for the annual military parade that sends columns of soldiers and tanks rumbling through Moscows Red Square.
Zorin has other Miami connections, too: His local business associate, Svyatoslav Mangushev, a Russian intelligence officer turned Miami real estate investor, helped found a biker club called Spetsnaz M.C. Spetsnaz is a group of motorcycle-loving South Florida expatriates who named themselves after the Russian equivalent of Delta Force or Seal Team Six.

In Yemens secret prisons, UAE tortures and US interrogates
By MAGGIE MICHAEL
MUKALLA, Yemen (AP) Hundreds of men swept up in the hunt for al-Qaida militants have disappeared into a secret network of prisons in southern Yemen where abuse is routine and torture extreme including the grill, in which the victim is tied to a spit like a roast and spun in a circle of fire, an Associated Press investigation has found.
Senior American defense officials acknowledged Wednesday that U.S. forces have been involved in interrogations of detainees in Yemen but denied any participation in or knowledge of human rights abuses. Interrogating detainees who have been abused could violate international law, which prohibits complicity in torture.
The AP documented at least 18 clandestine lockups across southern Yemen run by the United Arab Emirates or by Yemeni forces created and trained by the Gulf nation, drawing on accounts from former detainees, families of prisoners, civil rights lawyers and Yemeni military officials. All are either hidden or off limits to Yemens government, which has been getting Emirati help in its civil war with rebels over the last two years.
The secret prisons are inside military bases, ports, an airport, private villas and even a nightclub. Some detainees have been flown to an Emirati base across the Red Sea in Eritrea, according to Yemen Interior Minister Hussein Arab and others.

Trump has spent $133K on White House furnishings so far
President Trump spent about $133,000 in taxpayer money on furnishings for the White House between January and May, Mic reported Wednesday.
Former President Barack Obama spent just about $51,000 during the same period, according to White House records though the same records show Obama spent more money later that year, narrowing the gap between how much each president spent on furnishings.
Obama spent about $70,000 during June of 2008, compared to just $17,000 for Trump this month. That still puts Trump at roughly $24,000 ahead of Obama's furniture spending at this point during Obama's presidency.
According to the Mic report, one of Trump's top dollar orders was a custom conference table from the Kittinger Company, Inc. that cost $13,000. According to Mic, former President Richard Nixon also had a Kittinger conference table, but paid for it himself.

Who Is Getting Rich Off the Secret Health-Care Overhaul?
A small group of people knows what the public doesnt, and thats ripe for scandal.
By George Zornick
One of the biggest scandals in American politics right now is that 13 Senate Republicans are developing a health-care bill that will impact one-sixth of the economy and the livelihoods of millions of Americans, and nobody knows the details. Republican senators outside that working group dont know anything, much less their Democratic colleagues. There have been no public hearings, markups, or debates of any kind.
This has also created conditions for a spate of smaller, more specific scandals. There is a huge gap between what a very small number of people know about the fate of US health care, and what the publicand particularly the investing publicknows.
The health-care legislation is ripe for stock-trading activity, political-intelligence work, and even insider-trading information, said Craig Holman, government-affairs lobbyist for Public Citizen. And when you take a look at the Republican health-care bill, which is all being negotiated in secret, these guysand not only the members of Congress, but the staff who are working on ithave an ideal opportunity to cash in themselves, or even provide information others to handle stock-trading activity.

Motorcyclist detained for driving at protestors on San Francisco street
Source: SF Gate
San Francisco police detained a motorcyclist who drove his bike at a group of protestors demonstrating against the federal health care bill in an apparent attempt to hit them, according to witnesses as well as photographs and videos from the scene.
A few dozen people were staging a die-in early Wednesday afternoon on Seventh Street near Mission Street when the man on a red motorcycle appeared, said one of the protesters, 43-year-old Tracey Brieger of Emeryville.
She said the activists, some of whom held up posters that looked like tombstones to decry the Republican health care bill designed to replace the Affordable Care Act, had planned to block the intersection for about 10 minutes.
They had been lying in the street for about seven minutes when a motorcyclist turned the wrong way on the one-way street and drove toward the protesters, witnesses said.
