This is the ONE thing you don't want to see before cross-Atlantic flight

NEWARK -- United Airlines cancelled a flight out of Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday night after fuel gushed from one of the plane's wings as it taxied to the runway.

A video shot by a passenger shows fuel spilling onto the runway from the edge of the left wing.

Flight 170 was scheduled to depart for Venice, Italy at 6:55 p.m, but was forced to return to the gate.

Passengers were put in a hotel and United will attempt to re-book them on a flight Wednesday, United said in a statement. United described the incident as a "fuel leak," but didn't mention where the leak originated.

Christie's job approval drops to a new low - 15%!!!

Gov. Chris Christie's job approval rating dropped to 15 percent in a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday, the worst rating for any governor in any state surveyed by the university in 20 years.

The latest poll puts Christie in a league of his own in New Jersey as well. He had been tied with former Democratic Gov. Brendan Byrne for the lowest job approval rating of 17 percent. The poll said 81 percent of registered New Jersey voters disapprove of the job Christie is doing as governor. He does not have much support within his own party, either, with 58 of Republicans disapproving, according to the poll.

Christie's deep unpopularity with voters is also dragging on his lieutenant governor, Kim Guadagno, who is the Republican nominee in the contest to succeed him. Her service as Christie's lieutenant governor has left a negative impact on 54 percent of voters, according to the poll.

Twenty-eight percent of those polled reported a negative view of Guadagno, while 20 percent had a favorable view, according to the poll. Half of those polled said they hadn't heard enough about her to form an opinion.

Ireland elects first gay prime minister Leo Varadkar

Source: Reuters

Leo Varadkar was elected Irish Prime Minister on Wednesday, making the 38-year-old son of an Indian immigrant the once-staunchly Catholic country's first gay premier and the youngest person to hold the office.

Despite inheriting Europe's fastest-growing economy, he will face immediate challenges in the shape of neighboring Britain's exit from the European Union, a political crisis in Northern Ireland and a housing crisis at home.

Varadkar succeeded Enda Kenny earlier this month as leader of the governing Fine Gael party, with colleagues pinning their hopes of an unprecedented third term on the straight talking Varadkar, who they believe can widen their appeal in elections that may be triggered as soon as next year.

"Enda Kenny's leadership enabled me to become an equal citizen in my own country two short years ago and to aspire to hold this office, an aspiration I once thought was beyond my reach, at least if I chose to be myself," Varadkar said in reference to Ireland's 2015 vote to legalize gay marriage.

United apologizes after video shows employee pushing 71-year-old passenger to floor

A 71-year-old man is suing United Airlines for $1 million after he was pushed to the ground by an employee in 2015. The employee was charged with a felony of injuring an elderly individual. (KPRC)

United Airlines issued an apology Tuesday after a video was released of a Houston-based employee pushing a 71-year-old passenger to the floor during an argument over a ticket. The man was left lying there motionless.

The confrontation took place about two years ago but was detailed in a lawsuit filed last week in Harris County, Tex. The airline is still facing fallout over an incident with David Dao, a passenger who was violently dragged off a flight in Chicago in April.

The video of the Texas pushing incident was obtained and broadcast Tuesday evening by Houston news station KPRC.

Pelosi invites NBA champion Warriors to visit Capitol

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday invited the Golden State Warriors to visit the Capitol, amid speculation that the NBA champions may skip the traditional White House visit.

“The @Warriors' leadership is inspiring. I'd be honored to welcome the team to the U.S. Capitol. #DubNation,” Pelosi tweeted. Her district, in San Francisco, is just minutes from the team’s Oakland base.

Speculation has risen since the Warriors’ Monday night championship victory that the team may skip out on meeting the president, as NBA champions traditionally do.

Key members of the Warriors have been vocally opposed to President Trump during the campaign and since his election. Head coach Steve Kerr criticized his executive order on travel, and star player Stephen Curry said Trump is an asset “if you remove the ‘et.’ ”
