n2doc's JournalFrom a Spark to a Flame: Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Opponent Now Operating A Million-Dollar Campaign
Though Debbie Wasserman Shultz clearly holds the advantage in her congressional district as an incumbent in an area that values the establishment, opponent Tim Canova has clearly found something special in his rapidly growing campaign.
Much like Senator Bernie Sanders, Canova has had a great deal of success in fundraising among private citizens giving small contributions. In 2016, Canova has already raised over a million dollars worth of individual contributions, an impressive figure for a first-time congressional candidate in a primary race. The significant figure comes from 53,000 donations from 25,000 individuals, averaging less than $20, the majority made online.
Wasserman Schultzs pride could be her downfall as her consistent refusal to debate or even acknowledge her primary opponent has only increased the disdain for the incumbent. A general dislike for the way that Wasserman Schultz is handing the DNC primary race will no doubt have an effect on the race as well.
Of course, Wasserman Schultz has the firepower of the entire establishment behind her. President Obama came out strongly in favor of the DNC chair last month, a rare primary endorsement for a congressional candidate. Unfortunately for Wasserman Schultz, this endorsement had a volatile effect as many disenfranchised Democrats donated to Canovas campaign in response to Obamas endorsement.

Bernie Sanders is the future of the Democratic Party
By Dean Obeidallah
(CNN)Attention Democratic leaders, and especially DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz: The key to the Democratic Party winning is Bernie Sanders. And I don't mean just preventing the nightmare of Donald J. Trump serving as our nation's commander in chief. Sanders is also the key to Democrats retaking the U.S. Congress as well as governorships and state legislatures.
Why? Simple. Sanders has attracted a legion of voters under 30, a category that now represents 17% of the total electorate, up from 14% in 2012. Sanders won 71% of these younger voters in the Democratic contests through early May, which is even higher than the 59% Barack Obama won in 2008.
And polls show Sanders has consistently won first-time voters. For example in the New Hampshire primary, Sanders was supported by 78% of first-time voters.
Sanders is getting young people to become part of the election process for the first time in their lives. I have heard this firsthand when I have given talks at colleges over the past few months. But what I also learned was that these young people are not Democrats. Rather they are Sanders' supporters drawn to his populist, inclusive message.

Paul Ryan Thinks Overtime Pay Is Actually—Wait for It—Bad for Workers
BY CHARLES P. PIERCE
Paul Ryan, the zombie-eyed granny starver from the state of Wisconsin and first runner-up in our most recent vice-presidential pageant, is doing his Hamlet thing about his party's presumptive presidential nominee. He's making sure that his suckfish in the elite political media know how deeply his vast conscience is torn over the decision, and that it's keeping him from his newfound embassy to the nation's poor and its struggling middle class.
No kidding. Some people actually buy this swill.
Then, on Wednesday, as Slate informs us, the administration announced that four million people will be getting a raise.
Huzzah, right? A break for the poor and the struggling middle class. Paul Ryan no longer needs to fight this fight alone. And what did the man of the people say to ABC News about this announcement?
Biggest. Fake. Ever.
