8 Women Explain Why They Got Bernie Sanders Tattoos

Why you got it: I've been listening to Bernie for about 10 years on the radio on the Thom Hartmann radio program, and so I've been very familiar with Bernie and his politics, and I was always struck by his unwavering support for the middle class. I got the tattoo as an homage to somebody that I admire tremendously.

Any chance of regret?: Oh, of course not. I mean whether or not he loses, he's somebody that I admire — or whether or not he wins, that is. And, I mean, I have far too many tattoos to regret any of them.

Why you got it: He really speaks for a lot of the things I feel passionate about. I can only relate it to a religious experience, which sounds crazy. I'm a homeschooling mom, and I've talked to a lot of Christian homeschoolers, and they'll talk about their faith like, "Oh, you feel it in your heart; you know it transforms your life," and I was listening to Bernie Sanders talk, and I was like, "Oh my gosh." He spoke to me! All the things he was talking about that were important, were important to me — health care, education. This was someone who was actually saying something that mattered. Then I heard that they were giving all these tattoos away in Vermont, and I thought, Oh my gosh, I want that. Because to me, it signified everything I believe in and I could've easily just gotten "liberty" or "believe" or something patriotic, but that would've been so generic. This, I look at it and I'm like, Yeah, that man stands for something I believe in.

Any chance of regret?: No. Art's awesome; you can never go back. It's a cool tattoo, but that's not even it. It's like I look at it, and I'm like, "Whoa." I've never heard a politician talk and felt like I almost could cry. I look at it and I go, "Yeah, I stand for that," and I can tell my kids, "Listen, you have to stand up for what you need or what you believe," and this is what we need and this is what I believe in, so, no, I won't regret it.

Chopper shock: Couple gets $60K bill for 25-minute air evacuation

North Country woman went into labor and needed trip to hospital, but with heavy price to bear
By Rick Karlin

Leigh Campbell got quite a shock in the predawn hours of April 3: Twenty-seven weeks pregnant, his wife, Heather, went into early labor.

The couple, who live in Ray Brook in Essex County, rushed to the hospital in nearby Saranac Lake. But because that facility lacks a neonatal intensive care unit, their midwife called for a helicopter to bring Heather to the nearest open bed across Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vt.

They avoided a premature birth and Heather remained in the hospital waiting to bring her baby to term when her husband was last contacted.

But another shock came two days later with the realization that the helicopter bill was $59,999 and Heather's insurance carrier would only cover about $370 for the 25-minute flight.

The service provided by the helicopter company LifeNet, was "out of network," and therefore not covered in her health insurance policy.

Sanders laughs with supporter who tells billionaire class to 'f--- off'

By NICK GASS 05/02/16 12:11 PM EDT
Bernie Sanders shared an appreciation for the blunt language of his supporters Monday, even as he remarked that he could not be so vulgar himself.

“I think that when the top one-tenth of 1 percent — one-tenth of 1 percent — now owns almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent, we got some other choices that we can make,” Sanders said at a rally in Evansville, Indiana, repeating a common refrain on the trail.

As Sanders then said, “That choice is to tell the billionaire class — ” a man in the audience could be heard shouting, “To f--- off!”
Sanders briefly continued before pausing and chuckling.

“Well, that is one way to phrase it,” he said, gesturing at the interrupter. “See, I myself am constrained. I can’t quite phrase it like that, but that’s not bad.”

NH's first medical marijuana dispensary opens; buyers hope for relief

By DAN SEUFERT
Sunday News Correspondent

PLYMOUTH — The first person to buy medical marijuana in New Hampshire has had four operations in the past four years for painful muscle ailments.

Jesse, a North Country resident who wouldn’t give his last name, said he’s tried opiate medications, massage therapy and acupuncture to halt his pain. “It hasn’t helped,” he said. “I’m hoping the marijuana will.”

On its first morning of operation Saturday, Sanctuary ATC (alternative treatment center), the state’s first therapeutic cannabis dispensary, had about two dozen people with various ailments waiting on its patio, many sitting on stools with canes or crutches at their sides.

It wasn’t clear what the mood was inside the dispensary. The only people allowed inside were customers who had registry cards from the state health department. Outside it wasn’t a celebratory crowd. Each cardholder had stories of physical pain. Many told of daily, extreme pain.

Oregon Approves First Recreational Marijuana Licenses

Oregon is one step closer to fully implementing its recreational marijuana industry by January 2017. The Oregon Liquor Control Commission approved its first recreational marijuana licenses Friday, approving eight growers under the new regulatory system. The agency was tasked with overseeing Oregon’s recreational cannabis industry.

“These licensees reflect the pioneering spirit Oregon is known for,” said Rob Patridge, OLCC Chair in a release Friday. “They come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences and possess the entrepreneurial spirit of this industry.”

The eight licenses were issued to growers in Lane, Tillamook, Washington, Clackamas, Jackson and Josephine counties and include a mix of large and medium scale indoor, mixed and outdoor cultivation growers, the agency said. The licensed growers can begin operating under the OLCC’s authority once they pay their annual licensing fee.

The agency plans to meet every week through early June to approve additional licenses.

Trump Says U.S. Should Shoot Barrel-Rolling Russian Planes “At A Certain Point”

Donald Trump said on Monday that, “at a certain point,” the United States should shoot at Russian planes that barrel roll over U.S. Air Force planes.

Commenting on a Russian SU-27 that conducted a barrel roll over a U.S. aircraft on Friday, the second such maneuver a Russian plane has conducted in the past month, Trump told Indiana radio host Charly Butcher that Obama should first call Putin to object.

“Normally, an Obama, let’s say a president, because you want to make at least a call or two, but normally Obama would call up Putin and say, ‘Listen, do us a favor, don’t do that, get that maniac, just stop it.’ But we don’t have that kind of a president. He’s gonna be out playing golf or something,” Trump said.

“But I don’t know, at a certain point, you can’t take it,” the businessman continued. “I mean, at a certain point, you have to do something that, you just can’t take that. That is not right. It’s against all, you know, when you talk about Geneva convention, there’s gotta be things that are against it. You can’t do that. That’s called taunting. But it should certainly start with diplomacy and it should start quickly with a phone call to Putin, wouldn’t you think?”

He went on to say that, if diplomacy didn’t work, the U.S. should open fire.

Anti-LGBT Activists 'Testing' Target By Sending Men Into Women's Rooms

It turns out that anti-LGBT activists are right that men are taking advantage of a transgender-inclusive policy at Target to go into women’s restrooms — and those men are anti-LGBT activists.

In an interview this morning with “Breitbart News Daily,” the American Family Association's director of governmental affairs, Sandy Rios, said that activists have been “testing” Target’s policy by sending men into women’s rooms at the retail chain.

The Religious Right group has been leading a boycott of Target after the company said it would allow transgender people to use the restroom that matches their gender identity, which it claims will lead to open season for “sexual predators.”

The program’s host, Stephen Bannon, contended that rather than being inclusive, Target is “trying to exclude people who are decent, hard-working people who don’t want their four-year-old daughter to have to go into a bathroom with a guy with a beard in a dress.”

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ Wife Elected Ted Cruz Delegate

Even though Donald Trump won the Virginia primary by a landslide, the state’s Republicans elected to send at-large-delegates to the Republican National Convention who are much more loyal to Ted Cruz during this weekend’s state convention. Cruz supporters secured 10 of the 13-at-large Virginia delegates. One of the Cruz-supporting delegates includes Virginia Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. The remaining three delegates are Trump supporters, according to The Washington Post.
