Dozens arrested at a house party over less than an ounce of marijuana, police say

Ten of the nearly 100 people arrested during a 21st birthday party over the weekend spoke exclusively to Channel 2 Action News for the first time since the incident.

Cartersville police said officers responded to a call of apparent gunshots fired early Sunday morning and something led them to believe that party goers had drugs on them.

The ages of the people arrested range from 15 to 31-years -old.

On Monday, a parent of one of the party goers told Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes she is furious because police arrested everyone since no one would claim the drugs.

Michelle Bachmann considering running for Franken's seat

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said in a recent interview that she is considering running for Democratic Sen. Al Franken's Senate seat.

"I've had people contact me and urge me to run for that Senate seat. ...And the only reason I would run is for the ability to take these principles into the United States Senate and be able to advocate for these principles," Bachmann told The Jim Bakker Show on Dec. 27.

Bachmann, a conservative lawmaker who resigned after 2014, added in the recent interview she is weighing "should it be me, should it be now? But there's also a price you pay" and the "swamp is so toxic."

"If you're a billionaire you can maybe defend yourself, [but] we're not money people. ...So we're trying to be wise—should we do this, shouldn't we do this, what?" she added.

Doug Jones to become only Dem senator with black chief of staff

Senator-elect Doug Jones (Ala.) announced on Tuesday that he has hired Dana Gresham as his chief of staff, which will make him the only Democratic senator to have an African-American in that position.

Gresham, a Birmingham native, has served in leadership roles in presidential administrations and for members of Congress. He led the Legislative Affairs Office at the Department of Transportation during all eight years of the Obama administration and has also worked on Capitol hill for 14 years.

GOP Sens. Tim Scott (S.C.) and Jerry Moran (Kan.) also have black chiefs of staff.

According to a 2016 report from Roll Call, only 5 percent of nearly 3,600 Senate staffers are black.
