China has its knickers in a twist over Russia's UNHRC expulsion

https://twitter.com/FastNewsWorld2/status/1512476971837624321
Beijing: A day after voting against a resolution to suspend Russia’s membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) over the killings of civilians in Ukraine, China on Friday defended its “vote”, saying that the Such a step taken would set a ‘dangerous precedent’.

…Reacting to the development, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said, “It is like adding fuel to the fire, which will not help in reducing the conflict.” “The linked resolution would strip Russia of its membership of the UNHRC and set a dangerous precedent,” he said.

It is noteworthy that the membership of any permanent member country of the United Nations Security Council has never been revoked from any unit of this global body. Being close to Moscow, China has not condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

Russian aluminum giant calls for Bucha war crimes investigation

https://twitter.com/rdknowles2010/status/1512292714313830403
The biggest aluminium producer outside China has become the first Russian company to call publicly for an investigation into war crimes in Bucha and an early end to the conflict in Ukraine.

“Reports from the Ukrainian city of Bucha shocked us. We believe that this crime should be thoroughly investigated,” Bernard Zonneveld, Rusal’s chairman, said on the company’s website. He called for “severe” punishment for the perpetrators, “no matter how hard it may seem in the context of ongoing information war”.

Although Rusal was not directly targeted in the latest sanctions against Russia, it has lost access to raw materials from Australia, affecting a fifth of its alumina needs. It has also had to halt operations in Ukraine.

China says it's not yet clear who are the real killers of Bucha

https://twitter.com/sigmajake/status/1511762744306978822
Beijing — China on Wednesday said images of civilian deaths in the Ukrainian town of Bucha are "deeply disturbing" but that no blame should be apportioned until all facts are known.

Emerging evidence of what appeared to be widespread civilian massacres in the wake of Russian withdrawals from the Kyiv areas may complicate Beijing's attempts to guide public opinion over the conflict, in which China has refused to criticize Moscow.

China supports all initiatives and measures "conducive to alleviating the humanitarian crisis" in the country, and is "ready to continue to work together with the international community to prevent any harm to civilians," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told reporters at a daily briefing.

"The truth and the cause of the incident must be verified," Zhao said. "All parties should exercise restraint and avoid unfounded accusations before a conclusion of the investigation is drawn."

Images of Bucha reproduced by a brave protester on Moscow streets

https://twitter.com/stellapolaris10/status/1511565687399067649
On some of Moscow’s most recognisable streets, a hooded man lies face down, arms bound behind his back with white cord.

A week ago the images captured in these photographs would have had little meaning.

But after pictures emerged showing the corpses of Ukrainian civilians killed in cold blood on the streets of Bucha, the message of protest is clear. The residents of Bucha had also been bound with white ties, before being shot in the head.

Small acts of defiance such as this — thought to have been the work of a Moscow artist — are becoming increasingly common in Russia, with mass street protests now all but snuffed out by heavy policing.

India condemns killings in Ukraine's Bucha in apparent hardening of stance

NEW DELHI, April 5 (Reuters) - India on Tuesday condemned the killings of civilians in Ukraine's Bucha and called for an independent investigation, having earlier declined to explicitly criticise the invasion of Ukraine by its long-time partner Russia.

…”Recent reports of civilian killings in Bucha are deeply disturbing," T.S. Tirumurti, India's permanent representative to the United Nations, told a meeting of the Security Council.

"We unequivocally condemn these killings and support the call for an independent investigation."

Tirumurti delivered his speech shortly after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had a phone conversation with India's foreign minister, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The United States has repeatedly urged India to condemn Russia's aggression since the Feb. 24 invasion.
