The 21 Convention was started by a man named Anthony Dream Johnson, and it’s been running since 2007. That event targets men and teaches them how to assert their manhood in modern society—It’s a “pro-father, pro-man, pro-masculinity” bonanza!
It was only a matter of time before Johnson and his cohorts attempted to tap into the woman market, and according to the Daily Mail, they’re starting this May in Orlando, Florida, with a convention called “Make Women Great Again.”
With a title like that, it still kinda seems like a convention for men, but apparently the event is intended for women. And those women are intended to spend about $2,000 to hear from men how they can be better women.
The 22 Convention brags on its website that it will be the “mansplaining event of the century,” and argues that feminism is simply “hiding under a mask of fake progress” and is instead “a radical assault on all forms of positive femininity.”
The event promises to cover all the topics that are ruining relationships for women in the U.S., like feminism, infertility, acting too confident, body positivity, and having self-respect. The organizers promise it will “raise your femininity by 500%” which, to be fair, is a really high number

Damn. That's one way to learn about the American experience that the students will never forget. People get woke to a problem when it happens to them. It should be noted that the experiment lasted only 3 days because it was too much for the community to handle. This also happened 2 years before TC Williams high school across the river (Remember The Titans movie) integrated in 1971.
We need more experiments like this. Oprah did this in 1992

After entering through the side entrance, she saw a giant “No Blondes Allowed,” banner strung across the staircase leading to her home room. Hall monitors jeered at her, directing her to the blonds-only stairwell. In class, her teachers didn’t call on her. At lunch, she was forced to sit at a separate table from her brunette friends, segregated based on the color of her hair.
“I have never forgotten that week, it was a seminal event in my life,” Brown said recently in a phone interview.
Brown and her fellow students at Cabin John Junior High were participating in an experiment with prejudice, a program so controversial that parents protested against it and national news media covered it. From Philadelphia to San Mateo, Calif., newspapers reported on the exercise — even Walter Cronkite devoted a segment to it on the “CBS Evening News.”
Tom Warren, Cabin John’s principal, conceived of the idea of turning Brotherhood Week, an official nationwide observance of tolerance that started in the 1930s, into a lesson on the development and spread of prejudice. But instead of discriminating against the handful of black children in the school, they would make a point by targeting blond students.
By creating a reproduction of the national struggle on race relations, the experiment illustrated contentious issues of the day: Is prejudice just a Southern problem? Can you teach children to be prejudiced or to resist prejudice? Issues that, 50 years after the experiment, are still part of the national dialogue on race today.

As my team sifted through 10 years of historic imagery, I was struck by the amount of devastation and pain the world has endured: the Haiti earthquake, the Deepwater Horizon explosion and oil spill, Benghazi, Ebola, the constant school shootings in the United States, the Las Vegas massacre.
Then there are images calling for democracy and change: the Arab Spring, Venezuela, Hong Kong.
And there are pictures that mold public opinion and push governments to take action: the image of the Honduran toddler crying as her mother is detained near the US-Mexico border and, before then, the plight of 5-year-old Syrian refugee Alan Kurdi, washed ashore after drowning in the waters off southern Turkey.
I also can't help but be inspired by the courage shown by 17-year-old Emma Gonzalez, a school shooting survivor who has helped galvanize the call to action on gun control. I found the moment Serena Williams consoled Naomi Osaka at last year's US Open admirable, just moments after Williams pointedly argued with a chair umpire over a call that eventually cost her the championship.
And the latter part of the decade produced a string of storytelling images from Donald Trump's presidency, his administration and his policies.
All of these stories are woven together in this 100-picture report. Every image is iconic in its own merit, and they are sometimes taken by photojournalists in harm's way. Each photo is memorable, permanently capturing a moment in history, searing its significance and its oddity in our consciousness, oftentimes shaping public opinion and affecting policy.
We present to you the defining photos of the past decade.

On DU, we often hear about companies abusing visa programs like H-1B. One way to improve the situation is to have more green cards for people who have been working here on visas and are committed to becoming Americans with permanent residency and apply for citizenship. Green cards add to the diversity of America and empowers workers to have more options for employment. These are the ones who want to own a house and put their kids through school and live the American dream like anyone else.
The temporary nature of visas like H-1B enables abuses of workers, firing of American employees to replace with temp agency style foreign contractors, and severely limits the ability of workers to change employers or improve their situation in life. The companies that sponsor workers for green cards are the ones who value their people. The wealthy "job creators" who use their tax cuts to fire American workers to replace them with temporary contractors on visas don't value their people. Malicious people and hate groups have used this situation to inflame racial hostility and division.
You are less likely to be fired and replaced by a permanent resident. If you work alongside green card holders, you are more likely to get to know them as fellow human beings, friends, neighbors, etc. and find we may have more in common than some may have us believe.

An estimated 800,000 immigrants who are working legally in the United States are waiting for a green card, an unprecedented backlog in employment-based immigration that has fueled a bitter policy debate but has been largely overshadowed by President Trump’s border wall fight and the administration’s focus on migrant crossings from Mexico.
Most of those waiting for employment-based green cards that would allow them to stay in the United States permanently are Indian nationals. And the backlog among this group is so acute that an Indian national who applies for a green card now can expect to wait up to 50 years to get one.
The wait is largely the result of an annual quota unchanged since 1990 and per-country limits enacted decades before the tech boom made India the top source of employment-based green card seekers.

The mathematical skills of a Donald Trump supporter were called into question during an interview with The Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper.
Klepper interviewed the man — with a Trump hat and shirt — at a Trump campaign rally.
“Why are you here?”
“Well, because two weeks ago I had a dream and in that dream I had this vision,” he said, as he turned around to show what was printed on the back of his shirt.
It showed a “Trump dynasty.”
Klepper however noticed some errors with the shirt.
“These are mostly one-term presidents,” he noted.
“No, you’re not reading it right, brother,” the Trump supporter replied. “What does it say for Ivanka? What is the date?”
“Ivanka is 2024 to 2028,” Klepper replied.
“That’s eight years,” the Trump supporter claimed.
“That’s four years!” Klepper replied. “Your math is wrong.”

Jobless claims suddenly jumped to a two-year high

The number of initial claims rose to 252,000 in the week ending December 7, an increase of 49,000 from the number of claims filed the week before, the Labor Department said Thursday.
That's higher than the 213,000 claims economists had expected and marks the highest level since the week ending September 30, 2017.
Liz Ann Sonders, Charles Schwab Chief Investment Strategist, called it "a somewhat-uncomfortable pop up" in a tweet, but said it was "too soon to declare it an uptrend."
Even though the pop in claims was notable, just one data point doesn't make a trend. Last week's data could be an outlier due to seasonal noise, given the timing around the Thanksgiving holiday on November 28.

A New Jersey police officer, three bystanders, and two suspects were killed in an extended firefight in Jersey City on Tuesday. Shots broke out around 12:30 p.m. outside a kosher market, which officials say was the targeted by the gunmen; the police officer was killed about a mile and a half to the south, near Bay View Cemetery.
According to Jersey City police chief Michael Kelly, the shooting began when Detective Joseph Seals approached a man and woman sitting in a U-Haul van at a Jersey City cemetery. The van was reportedly linked to a homicide that happened over the weekend. Seals, who Kelly said is the city’s “leading police officer in removing guns from the street,” was shot by one of the suspects, who then fled to the Jersey City Kosher Supermarket. When officers arrived at the grocery, suspects fired on them with rifles, holing up in the store in a small Orthodox Jewish neighborhood.
Law enforcement called the attack an “ambush” and confirmed that the casualties include three victims from inside the store and the two suspects. Two police officers, Ray Sanchez and Mariela Fernandez, were injured in the gunfight but both were released from the hospital Tuesday night. The police and the suspects exchanged gunfire for over an hour, the chilling scenes taking place in the city just across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan.

We could see the van moving through Jersey City streets slowly, the perpetrator stopped in front of there, calmly opened the door with two long rifles — him and the other perpetrator — and began firing from the street into the facility.”
Also Wednesday morning, the New York Times reported that one of the suspects in the shooting was found to have “published anti-Semitic and anti-police posts online and investigators believe the attack was motivated by those sentiments.” A “manifesto-style note” was also found inside the van the suspects were driving, according to the Times.

A Person Was Fatally Struck By A Train At Farragut West

Metro said Monday afternoon that it was suspending train service between Metro Center and Foggy Bottom after a person was struck by a train at Farragut West.
Metro Transit Police said the person died and that video of the incident indicated the person purposely entered the tracks as a train was coming. Further details about the incident were not immediately available.
Metro said on its Twitter account shortly after 1 p.m. that commuters could expect delays on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines, and encouraged riders to consider bus routes instead. Metro said Silver Line trains were operating between Wiehle and Ballston only.
Metro said shuttle bus service was available at 23rd St. NW and I St. NW, 17th St. NW and I St. NW, 14th St. NW and I St. NW, and 12th St. NW and G St. NW.
Metro also offered alternative Metrobus routes for commuters, including: 32, 31 and 36 at Foggy Bottom; 31, 30N, 30S, 32, 33, 36, 42, S2, 52, and 54 at McPherson Square; 30N, 30S, 32, 33, 36 and 38B at Farragut West; and 54, 64, 42, P6, S2, and S4 at Metro Center.
According to Metro Transit Police, another person was struck by a train on Dec. 3 at Capitol Heights Station. Officials said they believed the person intentionally entered the tracks as the train was coming.
Metro has not responded to a request for comment.

Metro said shuttle bus service was available at 23rd St. NW and I St. NW, 17th St. NW and I St. NW, 14th St. NW and I St. NW, and 12th St. NW and G St. NW.
Metro also offered alternative Metrobus routes for commuters, including: 32, 31 and 36 at Foggy Bottom; 31, 30N, 30S, 32, 33, 36, 42, S2, 52, and 54 at McPherson Square; 30N, 30S, 32, 33, 36 and 38B at Farragut West; and 54, 64, 42, P6, S2, and S4 at Metro Center.
According to Metro Transit Police, another person was struck by a train on Dec. 3 at Capitol Heights Station. Officials said they believed the person intentionally entered the tracks as the train was coming.
Metro has not responded to a request for comment.
