but but but that's socialism!!! (no it's not)

so the talking heads are screaming about a new poll about how people hate the word socialism, while thugs paint that on thick.
this is just a feedback loop here, but that is another matter.

there have been many discussions here about this bogus label, and how best to deflect it. lawrence o'donnell had an outstanding 'last word' about the word liberal the other night, and including a west wing clip of jimmie schmitz about picking up that sucker up and wearing it as a badge.

this popped into my head watching alex witt (alex witless more like. tweety in a dress.) teasing the survey results-

is it socialism?
no. it's americanism.
we take care of our people.
that's what's supposed to be exceptional about us.

we are falling far, far short. it is time to catch up.

edited to add that, yes, we already have many aspects of socialism. and just as socialism is practiced differently in different places, we get to make our own version.
theoretically that would combine the best aspects of capitalism w continuing investment is every single person, from cradle to grave.
because investing in our citizens is the best way to both maximize capitalism, and make it fair and democratic.

senate dems should stand up and read the speeches that

cruz, rubio, mcconnell, etc, ad nauseum, gave when obama signed daca.

and damn, jason johnson on the last word making the exact same point that i just made in this thread-

john brennan agrees w me.

in all the hand ringing about whether the mueller report will be a bombshell or a nothingburger, i have not had a moments angst. i figured that all those sealed indictments, however many of them there are, would land at the same time.

john brennan just said the same on rachel.

if senate rethuglicans could find 2 brain cells together amongst them,

every single on of them would vote down the emergency.
there is no point in makings a few brave souls walk the plank, paint a target on their backs and have people speculating about their impeachment votes.
the bonus is that then we dont have to do this all over again if he vetoes it.

we will see what comes out of the house. veto proof there would give them more cover.

but, they are what they are.

documentary- end game.

i watched this 40 minute documentary today on the rec of a friend.
it is hard to watch. but it is also inspirational. (sorry that it is netflix. i hope it will get a wider release.)

for me, the hardest thing was to just watch. i am a hospice volunteer and used to being able to hug and comfort people in this situation. i couldnt resist just hugging myself.

i have been on a bit of a hiatus, having had several losses in the last year or so, and also have a loved one struggling 2,000 mi away. it brought my frustration w that into sharp focus.
but it also reminded me how important the work is.

extremely insightful.
