i am sick and tired of "you didnt like it when people did it to your president"

what a disgusting false equivalency.
you did it to my president because his skin is brown. we arent doing it to cheeto because his skin is orange.
we are doing it because he is a fucking menace of the highest order.

heard on npr today. nearly threw my radio through the window.

Duckworth: Eroding Civilian Leadership of Our Armed Forces Is a Dangerous Precedent

Duckworth: Eroding Civilian Leadership of Our Armed Forces Is a Dangerous Precedent

Thursday, January 12, 2017
WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), a combat Veteran who served 23 years in the Reserve Forces, issued the following statement after voting against a measure that further erodes the legal requirements set in place to ensure civilian leadership of—and superiority over—our nation’s military:

“One of the foundational principles of our country—a principle I’ve risked my life to defend—is civilian control of the military. As a combat Veteran, I am disappointed that the legal requirements enshrining this principle in law were reduced in 2007 without any Congressional debate, and I am frustrated that this Congress is once again on a hasty warpath toward further eroding civilian leadership over our military.”

“General Mattis is a distinguished and experienced warfighter and my concerns over this waiver are not focused on his qualifications, but the principle of civilian control of the military is bigger than any one person. The original 10 year waiting period, roughly half a typical military career, wisely intended to prevent the type of conflicts that arise when recently-retired military commanders oversee leaders in the ranks that they have personal relationships with. In addition to the precedent this sets, I am concerned that the waiver the Senate passed today does not specifically identify General Mattis.”

“I had the pleasure of meeting with the General this week and was impressed both with our meeting and with the carefully-considered and nuanced positions he stated during his confirmation hearing on some of the most pressing national security issues we face. His understanding of upholding long-standing treaties, the importance of working with allies and his commitment to working closely with Congress are reassuring. General Mattis also knows as well as I do the true costs of war and the awesome responsibility of taking care of the women and men we send into danger. He understands we must look after those who return from combat with wounds of war—whether they are visible like mine, or invisible but just as deserving of care and treatment. While we disagree on some policies, I am confident we can work together to protect our troops and keep our nation secure if he is confirmed.”

this is the whole statement, but if you would like to thank my senator, go to the link.

puuullleeeeeeze stop saying pence is as bad as cheeto.

comparing this man to any other person on earth, equating him w any human being who talks in complete sentence is
!!!!!NORMALIZING HIM!!!!!!

just stop it. i understand what a horrible human being pence is, and that he will hold the door open for the same pack of ravening sleazebags as that man.
i understand that we are in for a shit show for the ages either way.

but really people. the difference is one of orders of magnitude.
stop forgetting that.

i am begging you.

from paul wheaton- permaculture

aka the duke of permaculture. the go to guy about hugelkultur.

he needs some help. not money, help getting the message out.

I watched dicaprio's new movie about carbon footprint. It seemed to be all about being angry at bad guys and very little about things people can do. And I saw letterman had a similar thing. Both great shows, but with very little that people can do. Both about reducing carbon footprint.

Converting from electric heat to a rocket mass heater reduces your carbon footprint as much as parking seven cars.

I keep seeing stuff where at the tippy top of the list of how people can reduce their own carbon footprint is by buying LED lightbulbs. That is such useless horseshit. And for people in northern climates, it is utterly wrong. I wrote about why here.

Thousands of people are burning petroleum to protest something that would not exist if people used less petroleum. And I think they could have done a thousand times more for their cause if they stayed at home and advocated this.
