why does the democratic party need ONE leader?

i'm so sick of this stupid talking point. they always rattle off at least a half dozen respected, good dems who lead in a variety of ways.
as it should be.

shut up about "the ONE"
we are democrats. we are not about "the ONE"

if there isnt a biiggggg spill into the public sphere of the secrets

about this misadministration and all their friends and relatives it will never be over.
that goes double if the investigation gets shut down or slowed down in any way.

especially if bob mueller gets fired. i want/expect him to spill his guts. he had damn well better have multiple document caches, and multiple media cohorts ready to publish at minute one.

even absent that- the content shutting down of open congressional sessions by the use of the words secret, privilege, yada yada yada.

if it takes longer than opening the area 51 records, we must never stop demanding our right to know it alllllll.

rate my pitch

this is an issue statement i am working on for my sister's county board campaign.
please comment/add to this.

The opioid crisis across this country has reached devastating proportions. It is a problem to which there are, as yet, no clear solutions. One thing that will not solve it is more “War on Drugs”. It is not only ineffective, it drains valuable resources from the kind of human services that are the best hope to solve the crisis.
It will require unpresedented cooperation across governments bodies and private sector resources. Continuation of the Affordable Care Act is vital. Many people become addicted because they have pain for which they cannot get treatment. The medical community is
re-examining pain protocols for both chronic and acute/postsurgical pain as well as better treatment approaches for all addictions.
The State of Illinois has been wise to allow medical marijuana for the treatment of many disorders that are tied to chronic pain. One thing that research is showing is that medical marijuana can be an effective substitute for more addicting and damaging drugs, not only opioids, including heroin, but also perscription pain treatments. Without the ACA, many people cannot afford the medical care required to evaluate and issue credentials to be able to buy it legally.
There is a bill currently before the Illinois Legislature to fully legalize marjuana. We should look to the huge windfall that the State of Colorado has reaped by legalizing and taxing recreational marijuana. Decades of research have shown no public health threat from the private, recreational use of mariuana. There is no down side to the public systems, and in fact, relieves law enforcement at all levels. This bill should be passed and businesses that result, not just sales but growing, testing, supply sales, and many ancillary benefits like construction and other forms of directly related employment, should be welcomed in Dupage County.

al franken should leave the senate

after the ethics committee has held public hearings and ruled.

the lessons we learn from pets.

in some ways i dont even understand my own decision to be a hospice volunteer. of all the things i could lend my time to, there are many that make more sense than what i do.
many of the other volunteers do it out of gratitude for a loved one that received hospice care. what i do know is that it came out of my admiration for a du'er who is a pediatric field nurse for the org i work for.
i have a kid who had very frightening health problems. tho we never heard those awful words, i spent a lot of time in the halls of the children's hospital, in dread of being told that my child might die.

but talking to another volunteer this weekend, one thing i said is- i do not fear death, for myself or loved ones who have had a long, good life, or who have suffered too long. i lost my sister recently after a decades long fight w ms. i have sadness, but mostly relief that her suffering, and her incredibly crappy quality of life, is over.
and the thing that occurred to me as it came out of my mouth was- it comes of having had a life filled w critters. it taught me both that death can be so random, and that one of the most solemn responsibilities of a pet owner is to decide when suffering and quality of life outweighs life itself.
this didnt make me callous about that decision. it made me empathetic to those who face that choice themselves.

i think that is a rare gift, and one that i should share.
and so here i am.

if we want to stop the tax bill, we have to target the house.

imho, the plan will be for the house to pass the senate bill as is.
senate rethugs do not want to have to vote again. ryan will go along w that plan.

the house is where any public pressure should be brought to bear. since all are on the ballot in november, they are also far more susceptible to public pressure.

find your nearest thug house member, and shut their office down. register voters while you are there.

i will be out at peter ro-scums office, w my sister who is running down ballot in his district.
