one last mom thread- for all the moms whose kids are jerks.
yesterday was my first post-split mothers day.
my 5 kids are all grown, and should know better. but it was a long slog of 2 f'ed up people that raised this bunch, and there are some big scars.
i wont go too far except to say that the ex still manipulates his little girls, so one was a complete no show, and the other decided it was a good time for me to go dig up shit that daddy left behind.
and the boys were, well, the boys.
so, yeah, reading all those mom threads blew chunks for me

self defense classes- correction, seminar- for women
so, this is posted on a local board-
Neighborhood meeting
Safety Seminar For Women
The 24 th Police District's Domestic Violence Officer invites all local women to attend this informative seminar. Practical tips will be shared to increase your personal safety. People who have attended previous seminars have raved about them. Don't miss this event. Mark your calendar now. Contact your neighbors. Spread the word. It will take place in the 24th District Police Station at 6464 N. Clark St.
to which i reply-
practical as these seems, i really, really hate this. why does it have to single women out this way? is there anything about this that doesnt apply to men on the street as well?
please stop cops.
yeah, some good ol unbelievable followed, including this-
I've not only thought about it, but had a lot of significant discussion with somebody really smart about it-- my wife-- since she is actually just about done writing a book about rape culture. I understand and agree with you that blaming the victim is a bad thing. I just do not see that this is what is happening here. I see this as strength and an opportunity for empowerment. You ask, shouldn't this apply to men as well? Yes, but the opportunity for and cultural acceptance of men being able to defend themselves is already well established; this perhaps helps to bridge a gap there just a little bit. That's not anything like saying "Ladies! Stop wearing short skirts! It's your fault!"
Please be sure to pre-order my wife's book. When/if she ever gets paid, you'll be indirectly supporting Twisted Tapas, which is where we spend most of our money lately. (More info: http://www.amazon.com/Asking-It-Alarming-Culture-about/dp/0738217026 )
sigh. i'm to old for this.
can we take back the night now? pretty please?
friends dont let friends buy home depot tomato plants
it doesnt get more local, more sustainable, more the next wave of food, than the moah's ark plant sale.
real heirloom vegetables, home grown saved seeds, passed hand to hand. last years goal was to start a seed bank, and this sale is largely the fruit of that goal.
we also will have cherokee purple and cherokee green tomatoes from the garden of craig le houllier, the man who enrolled the purple in the seed saves exchange, and who developed the green and chocolate varieties. craig is also the source of most of our peppers.
plus some really wonderful old fashioned italians from seeds from italy. herbs, melons, and a huge selection of peppers from canary, orange and red bells to weapons grade fatali peppers.
we will also have dwarf heirloom project plants.
rsvp for the sale and get updates and complete lists of varieties.
moah's ark is rogers park's first farm of the 21st century.
