Nomiku Sous Vide? Anyone see this one yet?

I haven't gotten on the sous vide band wagon ...YET... But you know me and my gadget obsession. This one has me curious.

http://www.nomiku.com/

It's still too pricey for me right now at 299.

Does anyone sous vide at home and what machine do you use. How much did your unit cost and what kind of vacuum sealer do you use?

Made a great soup in my bathroom today...LOL!

So since the kitchen won't be done until the end of the month (cross your fingers and pray) I decided to whip out the Insta Pot and make some beef and cabbage soup. My Instapot has a saute setting so I started browning a small chuck roast and I browned up a pound of ground beef in the microwave to make it easier to degrease. Then threw in six cloves of garlic, four ribs of celery, the ground beef, a pack of lipton onion soup, and a handful of baby carrots. Topped it off with a can of Rotel, a can of fire roasted tomatoes, four cans of water and a spoonful of beef better than bouillon. Added lots of black pepper and set it on slow cook. About a half an hour before serving I added a bag of finely shredded cabbage. I had some garlic bread from a month ago stuck in the freezer so I warmed that up in the electric blanket. I microwaved a potato for SO to add to his dinner and I had mine with some shiritaki ziti..... (google miracle noodles if you are curious).

It was delicious...and a great change from Costco Rotisserie Chicken and take out....Best of all I have enough leftovers for many more meals and it will keep in the freezer.

Three weeks to go and counting.

BTW: My kitchen floor arrived today. We went with Cork. Far warmer than tile which was our initial plan. Appliances are coming Friday and they are templating the counters next week. My sink and faucet are also here...So we are seeing progress.

Lets talk appliances and am I crazy to give up the Gas?

So I am redoing my kitchen. This house that I recently moved back into has gas. Prior to moving in here I had electric flat top range. And although I thought that I really, really missed the gas when I didn't have it; I really love how easy it was to clean the flat top. Now that it's just the two of us, I am not doing a whole lot of fancy meals.

So now I am rethinking replacing this gas stove with an induction stove. CRAZY? I just don't know.

Do any of you have induction and what do you think? I mostly have stainless cookware but I do have a few of those new fangled non stick pans that I love. I guess they would have to go to the kid if I make the leap.

And does anyone have a counter depth fridge that they like? I would prefer a french door.

I have been looking at the GE Cafe series with the gas range with the double oven..... OY....I am feeling like I am over thinking this

Tell me what you love and hate most about your kitchen

I'm gearing up to do a kitchen remodel and would love to hear from those who have gone through this and from those of you who have great work spaces and what you love love love about them.

My space is very small which is actually ok and I'm trying not to change the foot print. I would love to hear about your storage. What do you love having and what do you rarely use?

Has anyone put in an Ikea Kitchen

I am preparing to do a remodel of a small kitchen. I hadn't thought about using Ikea but a friend dragged me down there and you know...They are kind of nice and you get a whole lot of bang for your buck. I would use their design and install services as I am just not "designy" enough to feel like I know what I am doing on my own. I also really don't want to spend countless hours agonizing over this which if left to my own devices is what would happen.

I downloaded their kitchen design tool and SO and I fiddled around with it for an hour and got frustrated....That's how incompetent we are with this kind of stuff.

So will the Ikea process drive me insane? Should I just forget it and go with a kitchen contractor.

EEEEEEEKS How will I ever cope!

I sold my house and I am moving in two weeks. The house I am moving into has a tiny kitchen with half the storage space so....we are remodeling it immediately. The planning alone which I haven't really even started yet is driving me insane especially doing it on a limited budget and no ability to do DIY projects.

Anyhoo, my cooking facilities will be extremely limited for a few months.

I know some of you have lived through this. Any helpful hints? I will have a microwave of course and an electric pressure cooker that has rice cooking and browning functions so we won't starve....

If you are making a Costco run this week

Be sure to pick up the baby squash...They are in the cold veg area in cello bags. Little patty pans and zucchini's. I just roasted them up with salt, pepper and EVOO....Boy are they good!

Scramble an egg inside it's shell...Here's a neat trick

I haven't tried this yet and although I've been intriqued by those infomercials for a gadget that does this...I've managed to keep that toy out of my kitchen. Here's a way to do it with a long sleeve tee shirt and some string.
