crickets's JournalIs there some sort of public menace law that cover this type of idiocy?
Sort of the reverse of not yelling fire in a theater? I know the first instinct is to make Darwin award jokes, but in all seriousness, people contributing to public harm in this manner really should be criminally charged. Wait-- that means we'd be arresting Donny Dotard as well... hmm. Nice dream. Too much to hope for, I guess.

This is what it's going to take.
It's been known for some time that testing and keeping tracking of the numbers is what we need to get a handle on this. Here's some hard scientific data to back it up. All of the "it's too late now; no point in testing!" noise may have been well-intentioned and meant to be comforting, but in the end is not helpful.
Tests, more tests, test everybody. To be in a situation where there aren't even enough tests for medical personnel and to have our government obviously doing little to nothing about it is the definition of criminal.
Time and place, people.
I agree about the US leaving Afghanistan, but why the fecking hell does anyone think it's OK to hold a desperately needed coronavirus relief bill hostage with a completely unrelated issue? It's manipulative, usually for some partisan bs that would otherwise never be passed. I HATE THAT. If Rand Paul feels that we should end military involvement in Afghanistan - great! He can write his own damned legislation for that.

In July of last year, Paul blocked a bipartisan bill that would ensure a victims' compensation fund related to the Sept. 11 attacks never runs out of money. Paul questioned the bill's 70-year time frame and said any new spending should be offset by corresponding cuts. After the amendment failed, he wound up being one of two no votes on the legislation.
Oh, FFS. What a git.
Damn. They are going to have to do better than this.
Germs or no germs, there are going to be riots if Congress don't get their act together. People are going to have plenty of time on their hands for that sort of thing.
Nowhere. I am in lockdown since last week.
I have to water plants and finish some housekeeping, and I want to take a walk later since I didn't get to the gym today and won't be going any time soon. Somewhere I have some Tai Chi DVDs I need to find and dust off. I've started reading the Poetic Edda. Settling in with a book and letting the Monterey Bay Aquarium Moon Jellies float around in the background sounds like a recipe for staying calm. Later I'm going to be making a big pot of something to divide into portions to freeze for later meals. It's a balancing act between being productive and staying relaxed. The oddest part is practicing not feeling guilty about staying home.

pfft, well there you go.
Actually in the end, it likely would, but sociopaths don't see it that way.
Boom. If you have the right people, they know how to get it done.
See this guy stepping up? Still doing it for us, even though it's his former job.
eta - Even then it was only sort of his former job; it's not like he was on the pandemic team. He still has a better handle on coming up with ideas to deal with the clusterfuck, including the proper messaging, which we have not been getting.

Andy Slavitt has it going on.
I find it disturbing that the school administrators (like the American College of Surgeons)
are having to publicly tell the WH what they should tell the schools to do. It's almost as if there is no competent hand on the helm...
Don't get me wrong. I don't think throwing money at corporations is the answer.
I'm well aware that some fatcats at the top will sit on the cash pile and grin while everyone else goes hungry.
I don't know what the answer is--but when corporations start to fall under the pressure of what we are all going through, and they will, thousands of jobs can evaporate overnight. It's those jobholders and what can be done for them that concerns me.
eta- and small businesses can go under even faster. Congress has no time for Mitch McConnell's foot dragging BS while people are sick and dying, or staying home to try to avoid adding to the numbers. They need to step up. In the meantime, we all need to try to look after one another as best we can.
