A North Carolina teenager was suspended for possession of drugs despite the fact that she passed a drug test. However, she was punished simply because of the smell of weed.

According to WNCN, Garner Magnet High School sophomore Jakayla Johnson said that a school resource officer smelled marijuana in the hall and interrupted her Chinese class looking for the source of the smell.

“I was feeling embarrassed because they called me out of everybody,” Jakayla said, noting that the officer had singled her out after only five minutes of searching. “They told me to spread my fingers and they smelled my fingers,” she added.

According to Wake County School documents, “It was explained to Jakayla that for her hands to smell so pungently of marijuana she would have to have possessed it in her hands at some recent point in time.”

Jakayla’s mother, Tameka, said that she was shocked when the school called to notify her that her daughter had been suspended for five days for possession of marijuana. “I said not my child. You have the wrong child, because I know my child,” she said.

After spending 29-months in the Rikers Island Correctional Facility — and all but two of those months in solitary confinement — for a crime she did not commit, Candie Hailey is suing New York City for $10 million, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

Hailey alleges that, throughout most of the time she spent behind bars waiting to be tried for the 2012 stabbing of an infant, prison officers frequently abused her. She was ultimately acquitted of the charge in May 2015, but — she says — nearly didn't make it.

"I just wanted to die," Hailey told the Daily News. "I didn't think about anything else. It was taking too long to prove my innocence."

According to the Daily News, Hailey said she attempted suicide "more than 100 times" as a result of the sexual and physical assault. And indeed, solitary confinement is thought to induce suicidal impulses in prisoners, wreaking havoc on their mental well-being.

This Black Man Was Rejected By An Airbnb Host — Then Was Accepted Under A Fake White Profile

Greg Selden said he created fake profiles for white guests — which were accepted. UPDATE: The post contains updated statements from Airbnb and Seldes.

Greg Selden is a 25-year-old living in Richmond, Virginia. On Wednesday, Selden tweeted that he had been rejected by an Airbnb host due to the color of his skin.



Selden wrote that he was eventually accepted after he set up a fake profile for a white person and reapplied to the same listing. The tweet, hashtagged #AirbnbWhileBlack, was retweeted over 3,000 times.

Selden confronted the man via the app and said he also complained to Airbnb. Selden said Airbnb did not reply to him.
