Idaho legislature prepared to ban local minimum wage hikes

http://www.ktvb.com/news/local/capitol-watch/minimum-wage-ban-moves-forward-in-idaho-legislature/44150804

Here is the sorry-ass thing in its entirety:

https://www.legislature.idaho.gov/legislation/2016/H0463.pdf

What our Repuke-dominated legislature is attempting to do is to prohibit any city from raising the minimum wage on its own, and also prohibit any ballot initiative aimed at raising the minimum wage.

How the GOP plans to pad their vote counts...

They're just going to drop a few cases of these in the water supply...

On decorations and promotions, and why Hillary is the only safe choice

A drill sergeant once told me, "a soldier never remembers his first battalion commander, but he always remembers his drill sergeant."

That drill sergeant never worked for the larger-than-life Lieutenant Colonel "Cactus Jack" McGuinness. I could tell McGuinness stories all day long, but one will suffice for now.

Cactus Jack worked behind a 200-year-old desk that had been in his family all its life. In one of its drawers were two file folders. One contained award recommendations, the other promotion recommendations. No one else in the battalion had either form; if you needed one, you had to visit the colonel. Before you got a form, he'd always ask, "are you recognizing the past or the future?" If you were thanking a soldier for something great he did, you always got an award recommendation. If you were recognizing his future potential, you got a promotion recommendation...and occasionally, you'd get both.

The Bernie brigade is telling the Democratic party, "choose Bernie because he was a leader in the 1960s civil rights struggle." Okay, we could do that...but his grand history in that conflict comes with a guy who wants to fight, right now, for a program that has absolutely no hope of being enacted. Just the fact he needs to raise taxes by a substantial sum to fund his programs is, alone, enough to derail his plans. (That he needs to raise them by a LOT more than he claims is even worse.)

Hillary doesn't have the civil rights struggle background Bernie does, but the program she lays out is more likely to be enactable.

Bernie deserves a Presidential Medal of Freedom for his civil rights activities. Those activities, by themselves, don't justify giving him the White House.

Republican stonewalling of Scalia's replacement is treason

Article 2, Section 2 of the Constitution reads:

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

Article 3, Section 3 of the Constitution reads:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

18 USC 2381 reads:

Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

Any Republican who prevents the president of the United States from carrying out his duty to choose a justice to replace Antonin Scalia has committed the crime of Treason, and should be punished by five years in a federal prison, fined $10,000 and permanently lose the right to hold a government job of any kind.

Fuck these people. They want war? Well, there's a penalty for committing one against the country you're sworn to serve.

Obama's next Supreme Court appointee needs to meet two qualifications...

1) liberal
2) 50 or under

My first choice was Stephen Reinhardt, who is known to be one of the most liberal judges in America. Problem is, he's over 80 years old. I think he'd be a great Supreme Court justice but he'll probably die in five years.

My second choice is Stacie Beckerman...the magistrate who ordered the Malheur terrorists held without bail. She is known to be fair and knowledgeable about the law, from her years of experience as a federal prosecutor. She's also 44 years old. Question is, does two years as a federal magistrate qualify someone to serve on the Supreme Court?

Who else would be good?

How does the NFL pick the band for the Super Bowl halftime show?

Coldplay is who you get when Nickelback is too obvious. "Uhh...I know, let's pick the band whose greatest hit is this orchestral-sounding thing about a deposed monarch!" Come on guys, next year get someone who at least has fun songs...Jimmy Buffett would probably do it.

Do Bernie's fans know we EXPECTED to lose NH?

Worse, do they know we expected to lose by about that much?

Let's put this in NASCAR terms: Dale Earnhardt led, at one time or another in his career, every lap in the Daytona 500. No one remembers the year he led lap 43.

Everyone remembers the year he led lap 200.

Bernie just led lap 43. Hillary will lead lap 200.

I am SERIOUSLY unhappy with the NH results I'm seeing

Trump is so far in front no one is going to catch him. If you thought he was unbearable NOW, wait till he wins a primary!
