otohara's JournalOh Snap - Atlanta Mayor Responds to BS Claim Race Relations
CNN)The Democratic mayor of Atlanta criticized Bernie Sanders on Friday for claiming at a recent Democratic debate that race relations would be better if he is president than they are under President Barack Obama.
Kasim Reed, a Hillary Clinton supporter, told CNN's Erin Burnett that the claim was "dismissive and disrespectful" of the nation's first African-American president and that Sanders' rhetoric on Thursday reminded him of a county commissioner. Reed went on to challenge Sanders' record, saying, "Show me in the Senate where he led some broad coalition to get something significant accomplished ... He is running to be the standard-bearer of the Democratic Party, although he just became a Democrat within the last year." http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/12/politics/kasim-reed-bernie-sanders-atlanta/index.html
Feel the Bern or Give ‘em Hill, but please, chill out
This is my first post in almost a year - I left DU due to it's toxicity and now OMG
Anyway enjoy this article from my favorite yoga teacher, journalist and the very hip Mark Morford.
How to put this delicately? With all due respect and while hoping to avoid kicking the political hornets nest, all over again?
Oh, screw it: Chill the hell out, rabid Bernie evangelists.
Believe me, I get it. Bernie is awesome. Bernie is neat. Bernie could, bewildered Fates allowing and if New Hampshire is any indication and its almost certainly not but life is weird and stranger things have happened Bernie could go all the way. And lo, it would be amazing.
But hear this now, hardcore Sanders zealots: its become jarringly evident that many of you are losing perspective, becoming unhinged, veering way too close, in your savage anti-Hillary screeds, pro grumpy-old-populist obsessiveness and manic refusal to acknowledge historical context, toward raging fundamentalism.
You know, like an NRA fanatic. Like a Trump rage-aholic. A Mormon homophobe. A Planned Parenthood firebomber. Beware.
You are not them. Act not like them. Chill the fk out. Widen your lens. See the larger play. Befriend your opponent. Unclench your zealotry, just a little. This is the only way. The other way? Pure poison.
Let me be clear: Im thrilled that Sanders won New Hampshire. Im thrilled that Hillary will be the (likely) nominee. Im thrilled that the GOP continues to eat itself alive. I have no problem with all these statements being true, simultaneously, in turns, over and over again. But maybe thats just me.

Sharp Drop in Homicides in Denver So Far This Year
The number of Denver homicides in the first three months of this year fell sharply compared with the same period last year, city officials said Friday.
Eight homicides have been reported so far during the first quarter, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. That compares with 14 in the first quarter of 2013, representing a 43 percent drop.
Last year was the highest first-quarter total dating to 2009.
The lowest number of first-quarter homicides in the past five years was six, which was in 2009.
The number of homicides typically rises in summer months and during the winter holidays.

Denver is doing just fine
His Wife Worked For RW Think Tank & Newt Gingrich
A well connected son of a state politician is running in a house district primary - His new bride spent her post college years working for AEI and Newt Gingrich. Newt credits glowingly in his books and she co-wrote a handful of articles articulating Newt's greedy icky theories - all of which made me hurl.
He claims she was young... but not so much when she went back and did some stuff for Newt's 2012 POTUS run. .
We're not supposed to speak of it either.
What's in the black binder of hate?
DENVER - To be or not to be. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth.
Great lines written by great authors tend to inspire an equal sense of awe and gratitude.
And then there's the line written by a Minnesota man to a female legislator in March of last year during the height of the gun debate inside the Colorado State Capitol.
"You are a whore who has no fear of being raped," he typed.
Trust us, it was one of the more tame lines collected in what the Colorado Senate Democrats call their "Black Binder of Hate."
"You're nothing but a worthless peace [sic] of Communist sh--," wrote another wordsmith.
"You should go buy a gun and kill yourself you disgusting, ugly, fat piece of sh--," wrote a man who called himself Chad. http://www.9news.com/news/article/379204/339/9WTK-Whats-in-the-black-binder-of-hate
Sen. Bernie Herpin “maybe a good thing” Aurora Theater Gunman Had 100-Round Magazine.
Tom Sullivan, whose 27-year-old son Alex was killed in the Aurora theater shooting, on Wednesday voiced outrage at comments from a state senator who said it was perhaps a good thing the gunman had a 100-round magazine.
Sen. Bernie Herpin, R-Colorado Springs, said it was maybe a good thing he (suspect James Holmes) had a 100 round magazine because it jammed, in a July 2012 shooting that killed 12 and injured dozens.
If he had instead had four, five, six 15-round magazines, no telling how much damage he could have done until a good guy showed up, said Herpin, as he offered testimony before a Senate Judiciary Committee on a bill to repeal a law that limits ammunition magazines to 15 rounds.
In recent days, several supporters of repealing gun control laws passed in 2013, have stressed that larger ammunition magazines jam easier than lower-round magazines.
Theres just a real lack of empathy for the victims, for everyone impacted by the shooting, said Sullivan, who testified in opposition to Herpins repeal measure. Since his sons death, Sullivan has dedicated much of his time to voicing support for tougher gun control laws across the country.
