Welcome to DU, deurbano. This is so sad.

Glad you're here. So sorry to hear this. This is one of those stories that tends to band us all together in sympathy and concern. And it invariably takes me back to one of mitt wrongney's many campaign speeches in which he railed against the "expansion of the federal government" and the nerve of President Obama wanting to hire MORE police and MORE firefighters! Oh the outrage! WTF was he thinking???? We NEED our first responders! And we need to honor them and their very important life-saving work, pay them well, equip them with anything they want, quit cutting their benefits, quit fucking with them and dismissing them and demeaning them and insulting them and belittling their work, and treat them as the life-savers and rescuers and selfless sacrifice-makers that they are.

I'm so stealing this!!!

Well, this may be heresy but the first thought in my head was to wonder whether Johnny Depp is finally starting to face the risk of being overexposed?

July 1, 2013

Another good one! This describes her perfectly, ehrnst!

"The psycho ex-girlfriend of the GOP who shows up drunk at the rehearsal dinner."

Fits her to an absolute "T" ("T" for teabagger).

EXCELLENT, KansDem!!!

The UBETCHA Party!

Sometimes known as "The Know-Nothings 2.0".

Welcome to DU, TRoN33!

Glad you're here! It sure is worth a head-smack, isn't it?

This just proves my point - the "...but she photographs well" ethic is the ONLY thing that sarah has going for her. But because her face is fairly easy on the eyes, she has been able to get as far as she has. It certainly isn't her towering intellect...

July 1, 2013

Again with this delusional crap, sarah? Seriously?

That's the GOP's problem. "Neglecting" CONservatives??????? Who is she kidding? The GOP is being led around by the nose by CONservatives. That's the exact thing that ails them.

But go ahead, dear. You're stuck deep down in a pit. By all means keep digging!

July 1, 2013

And you very likely wouldn't pull it out and have it lying around in the open

where children are present. That's just ASKING for trouble. BEGGING for it, is more like it.

WHAT ON EARTH was that man thinking????????????? That his gun made him inviolable? All-powerful and safe from any calamity?

I'm sorry - I just don't get the mentality of people like him. Just don't get it. Doesn't compute. At ALL.

July 1, 2013

TOTALLY, EdwardSmith74! And Welcome to DU!

Glad you're here, and a GREAT point you make.

And I would add - if you're too lazy and/or negligent to check first and make absolutely dead-on CERTAIN it isn't loaded, especially with kids around, then your precious fucking 2nd Amendment "rights" should be taken away PERMANENTLY. And you should be locked up so the rest of us around you are still somewhat safe. You simply should NOT have guns around in the presence of children. Go play with them in private, so the only person you hurt is yourself, grandpa.

July 1, 2013

Can't help but agree. "Accident?" FUCK that.

Leaving lethal weapons around in the presence of children is just ASKING FOR TROUBLE. You "THOUGHT" it was unloaded. Well, why didn't you frickin' CHECK, asshole? When you simply assume the gun was unloaded, you make an ass of yourself and a corpse out of the other person in the room. That gun make you feel safe now, grandpa?

July 1, 2013

So sorry to hear this.

Prescott AZ is where the Bead Museum is - or used to be, at least? Is it still there?

Much love and sympathy to you - and the whole community. Smaller towns always feel this kind of thing harder - BECAUSE it's so much more likely that the victims are known to many locals. A small town is kinda like a really large family. So sorry you folks are carrying this sorrowful burden now. This is supposed to be a general week of celebration, what with the 4th of July and all. But I know that'll be the last thing you feel like doing. I'm so sorry.

Yes DU is here. DUers are here. Neat thing about this is that - regardless of the time of day or night, SOMEBODY's always up. I remember when my mom died in the middle of the evening, I wound up posting a brief note about it during the wee hours. I was AMAZED at how fast posts came, and how soon there were a hundred or more. It buoyed me up and made me feel as though many shoulders were there for me to lean on.

It's a good thing that you posted this. You will find you are surrounded by support and sympathy. It's one of the really lovely things about this place, regardless how we fight and argue and philosophically chew each other up sometimes. DU will buoy you up.

On edit - I mean, just look. When I started this post, you'd just written your OP and I thought I'd be first. In just that short span of time there were already four people in line ahead of me.

About calimary

Female. Retired. Wife-Mom-Grandma. Approx. 30 years in broadcasting, at least 20 of those in news biz. Taurus. Loves chocolate - preferably without nuts or cocoanut. Animal lover. Rock-hound from pre-school age. Proud Democrat for life. Ardent environmentalist and pro-choicer. Hoping to use my skills set for the greater good. Still married to the same guy for 40+ years. Probably because he's a proud Democrat, too. Penmanship absolutely stinks, so I'm glad I'm a fast typist! I will always love Hillary and she will always be my President.
