calimary's JournalWelcome to DU, Mountain Mule!
Gotta make myself a copy of that inscription! It's QUITE fitting.
We have a Russian puppet now installed in OUR White House by a hostile foreign power. IE: Russia.
Indeed!
And yes, today, the Dow had the worst trading day of the year so far. I'm looking at the "crawl" of current headlines running along the bottom of the screen on MSNBC as Lawrence O'Donnell is on. That headline is what just now glided across my TV.
Welcome to DU, WVGal1963!
This is a pretty wild night. As I write this, the big popping news was trump firing Acting AG Sally Yates, but now he's evidently also fired the head of immigration enforcement, too!
This is unspooling in such a way as to confirm WHY you DON'T run a government like a business. And why it's UTTER FOLLY to put a businessman in at the top. A businessman is used to doing business a certain way. Especially a CEO-type who's used to swaggering around like some sultan and in his own private company CAN say "my way or the highway." I'm sure trump has fired people on a whim, MANY times before. But he was in private industry at the time. You can do that if you own the joint.
But trump doesn't OWN this. He is a public servant. That's what a President of the United States is: the highest-ranking public servant in America. The country doesn't run like a business. They're not the same thing! A business exists to do one thing: generate a profit. Period. That's NOT what a government is for. A government is for serving the public, collecting taxes, and redistributing that tax money to serve the public. Handle crises. Fund recovery, for example.
Perhaps we're now seeing how trump runs things when the whole country and the whole wide world, friend and foe alike, all aren't looking over his shoulder - which is what happens when you're President. Maybe we're now seeing, close-up, the kind of business guy he is in the private sector. And why he's been sued more than 3,500 times.
Sending you healing vibes!
Think green! Green is the color of healing, vitality, youth, springtime, renewal, and growth.
Welcome to DU, lisvard2!
Yeah, no freakin' shit! My jaw's on the ground.
Makes me think back to the "Saturday Night Massacre" This is now the "Monday Night Massacre."
The Saturday Night Massacre was the term used by political commentators[1] to refer to U.S. President Richard Nixon's dismissal of independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox, and as a result the resignations of Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus on October 20, 1973, during the Watergate scandal.[2][3]

Welcome to DU, Kaotic!
I think it's your second option. I don't think they care. I read a story about a longtime Democrat who declared she voted for trump because she was so angry, felt so left out of whatever recovery wasn't coming her way, felt folks like herself weren't being heard and she just wanted to "burn it all down", assuming that by doing so we could start from scratch and build a new Democratic Party. And I'm sure they didn't stop or even slow down to think about what might REALLY happen in response to these very REAL utterances and actions.
They're going with their gut. Emotional reactions and extreme impulsivity. Just what seems to feel satisfying right this minute. Over a longer term? Meh, fuck that. I'm ANGRY!
Problem is - when you're choosing someone to be your leader, you really need to go with your HEAD. Facts and reality and what IS (and does not lie to you or speak with a forked tongue). At least for me, something like that has always been head-over-heart. That's what made me marry whom I married. I made all my job choices that way, too. I never fully trusted my heart on the big stuff. And it's always worked out.
And donate if you can!
I took a big step and locked in a monthly donation.
I only regret not being able to make it a BIG donation every month.
Welcome DU, fountainofyouth!
I swear, the very mention of his name makes my stomach churn.
Happy now, Mitch? You've finally got everything you wished for - Senate/House/White House. How's it workin' out for ya?
And THAT, right there, is the World's Biggest Entitlement Program.
The GOP's assumption that it alone has some "divine" right to rule.
Ugly outside AND inside.
He's a wife beater, too.
Looking at the photo in the OP again, are those gin blossoms on his nose?
