"Let justice be done, though the heavens fall."

A quote that John Quincy Adams is reported to have made. DUer, volstork, quotes it from an article by Charlie Pierce. https://www.democraticunderground.com/100212297556

The times of John Quincy Adams seem so much like the present times. I think Andrew Jackson was a lot like Donald Trump, with his penchant for monarchism.

But, it contrasts with the present Congress and Legislature. Justice was very important to John Quincy Adams. We don't know if it is as important to today's Congress?

To read the full quote would surely give them pause, I would think?

<“We know the redemption must come. The time and the manner of its coming we know not: It may come in peace, or it may come in blood; but whether in peace or in blood, let it come.”

And when Congressman James Dellet quoted the speech in the House, querulously wondering if Adams meant the blood “of thousands of white men,” Adams replied,

"Though it cost the blood of millions of white men, let it come. Let justice be done, though the heavens fall.” >

Who called the White House a "dump"?

Of course, he denies it now.

Who sat in an interview on cable news and compared America to Russia, and reminded the reporter that "we kill people too"?

Who stood on the stage at Helsinki with Vladimir Putin and put down his own country as he defended Russia?

Who talked about "American carnage" and advised African-Americans that they had "nothing to lose" by voting for him?

What person in this country has talked worse about our country than Donald Trump?

Yet, like the hypocrite that he is, he stands before his audiences and tells other people to "love it or leave it". He attacks them for criticizing our country. He says nothing as his supporters chant, "Send her back!"

I do believe he has the wrong spokesman in preaching patriotism and love of country?

Political Purgatory

Somewhere between where we've been and where we're going.

Like "rubber-neckers" at an automobile accident, we seem to have all slowed down to look at the wreckage along the road. How many people will be pulled from the wreckage? How many eyewitnesses do we have? Will the person responsible be held accountable?

Or, after the cops and the ambulances have left, will the responsible party be allowed to drive on down the road? Will he be given a warning and a slap on the wrist?

We wait patiently for next Wednesday, when Robert Mueller will tell us who was responsible? Will we learn anything or will we just continue on our journey to Election Day 2020?

Rep. Ilhan Omar is more representative of American values than Donald Trump?

She is more representative of the values of inclusion, equality, and citizenship.

She is more like the average American than Donald Trump.

She is less divisive than Donald Trump.

In my opinion, Rep. Omar is a better American than Donald Trump.

A National Character Test

Supporters of Donald Trump have to ask themselves just how much do they agree with him?

Are they OK with his lies and deception? Are they OK with him hiding where his money comes from? Are they OK with his refusal to make public his financial or tax records? Are they OK with his greed?

Are they OK with his racist comments and his efforts to divide this country? Are they OK with the name-calling and the disregard for the rule of law?

Are they OK with his stupid and ignorant tweets that sometimes threaten our national security?

Are they OK with him hugging the American flag, yet nobody from his family, from his grandfather forward, has ever served in the US military?

Are they OK with him loving up to the dictators but stabbing our allies in the back?

Do they truly believe that character doesn't matter? Do they believe that Trump is a man of good character? Do they want their children to be like Donald Trump?

Do they support tearing apart the institutions and the fabric of this nation? Do they believe that a "good economy" trumps all, to borrow a pun?

How much are they willing to surrender to prove to themselves they are not fools and puppets for a wannabe dictator?

How much character do these people have?

Will Repubs on the Committee attempt to ask pertinent questions of Robert Mueller?

Or will they distract and disrupt, as they usually do?

Mueller will probably be attacked every which way from Sunday?

They do not want to know the truth about Russia or if anyone on the Trump team, especially Donald, assisted the Russians in any way?

They are perfectly content with the status quo. So long as nobody talks about it. Then, they can feign concern that it will make their Party look "bad".

Democrats should not be surprised when Republicans begin next Wednesday's hearing by obstructing and disrupting the proceedings. That is who they are.

If the GOP was smart....

About six of their top leaders, including McConnell, should march over to the White House and beg a meeting with Their Lordship.

They should inform him that he is not safe from impeachment, and he is no longer safe from conviction. They should ask for his resignation. If they were smart...

If Robert Mueller adds his valued opinion that Donald Trump is guilty of criminal conduct, then it it up to the Congress of the United States to act.

The GOP would be wise to see the writing on the wall. If they cannot persuade Mr Trump to offer his resignation, then it is just a matter of time.

If Bob Mueller gives his imprimatur, he will be impeached.

"How dare you, Nancy?"

How dare the Congress of the United States condemn the racist language of Donald Trump?

So Donald Trump goes to one of his Nuremburg-like rallies down in North Carolina and hits back. He'll show them!

He stirs up another pot of hate and division with his followers, as he stands tall as Mussolini, as they chant, "Send her back!". His disrespect for Nancy Pelosi and the US Congress could not have been more obvious.

His people did not miss the fact that he came out and challenged the voice of the People's Representatives, the US Congress.

L'etat c'est moi?

Mitch McConnell can't fill those vacant Court seats fast enough...

Democrats need to be prepared.

I think the Democrats need a plan.

I think there is no plan if they do not win back the White House. All of their eggs are in that basket.

It is very possible that the Republicans will keep the Senate and Donald Trump will keep the White House. But, I do not believe the Democrats will lose the House. It is possible that the political powers after the next election will be the same as they are today?

What should the Democrats do if that is the case?

In my opinion, the future is now. Democrats should prepare for a situation where they do not control the White House.

The situation will not get better - it will only deteriorate.

That is why I think the plan should begin immediately. Perhaps after the Mueller testimony next week?

In my opinion, the country cannot survive 5 1/2 more years of Donald Trump. We should not wait to see what the next election brings. It would be foolhardy.

The process of an impeachment inquiry should begin immediately. If Democrats do nothing, they should at least attempt to give the voters the facts. No American citizen should be allowed to say, "We didn't know."

Between now and the next election, the groundwork should be laid to impeach Donald Trump. We should not cower in fear and do nothing. That is not acceptable.

Circumstances will change between now and Election Day of 2020. They will most likely get much worse. The Democratic Party should gather all the facts and present them to the American people. They will make their own bed.

It would be unwise and unpatriotic to hold off impeachment proceedings just because the Republicans will not convict. That is upon them and the call of history. We must do what is best for the country and not the Democratic Party.

Just my opinion.
