TRUMP DIDN'T "CRUSH" ANYTHING. HE WON IOWA BY 2,222 VOTES - 1.17.24 Countdown with Keith Olbermann

Jan 17, 2024
A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump did NOT crush DeSantis and Haley in Iowa. The "takeaway" is not that he crushed DeSantis and Haley in Iowa. The "takeaway" is he beat the field by only 2,222 votes. And the reality is Trump got a total of 56,260 votes and that’s about half the size of this podcast’s daily audience. And Trump only got 51 percent OF the votes in Iowa and if President Biden only got 51 percent in a primary they would cancel everything on television for the next 26 days and cover nothing BUT Biden only getting 51 percent in a primary, right up until kickoff on Super Bowl Sunday 26 days from now.

3. I've lost track of the times "landslide victory" has been used by news reports the last few days.

Shame on the media. Barely 51% is NOT a landslide.

If R wins by even +1 = Mandate; the voters have spoken, they want Republican policies and values
If D wins by even +1 = The voters have spoken, they want bipartsianship (or...IT WAS STOLEN!!!)

They beat both drums ad naseum through their media appartus until it jus becomes "accepted" by voters.

And all that son of a bitch snagged was mostly deranged, white, Christian, racist MAGA voters who want a dictator for president, that's no landslid all ... But you know, the mostly corporate media's obsessed with its horse race, Joe Biden's too old on top of horrible poll numbers, Kamala Harris is hated all across the country, meanwhile calling shits in pants, mentally sinking, racist, criminal rapist tRaitor tRump 'the former president' while calling CURRENT pres. 'Mr. Biden, or Joe Biden on top of their incessant 'Biden's too too old/horrible polling numbers' narrative to care to see 👀 that what happened in Iowa was NO landslide victory for shits in pants

What I'm worried about is that these ridiculous leaps of logic are going to cause Democrats to think this is going to be a walk in the park and we're going to get hammered in November as a result.

Trump won Iowa by 30%, the largest margin in history. Claiming that the votes for all of the other candidates combined should determine the real margin is ridiculous.

13. By that logic, Clinton lost the popular vote in 1992 by nearly 15 million votes.

And, yet, he somehow still won the presidency. Imagine that.

Newsflash, everyone: they don't add up the total of all the other candidates when determining whether or not it's a win.

Sorry, Keith, but that's an idiotic assertion, though that hasn't stopped *everyone* on the left from hopping right on the bandwagon. It's as though we've collectively completely lost our ability to think logically.

We underestimate Trump at our peril. The same arguments were made in 2016 ("65% of the GOP is voting *against* Trump) and we know how that turned out.

You can slice and dice data all you want. But with a vote behind you, there's only one who comes out victorious. Full stop. How the victor uses/leverages that power is up to them...but it doesn't negate the win.
