Former Vice President Joe Biden said Tuesday that Congress should move forward with impeachment proceedings if the White House and Republicans work to block Democratic efforts to investigate matters "left undone" by special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.
In an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America," the 2020 presidential candidate said that Democrats would have "no alternative" but to impeach President Trump if he were to block a congressional investigation into whether he obstructed justice by firing former FBI Director James Comey and attempting to fire Mueller.
Biden's call for Congress to begin impeachment proceedings if the White House blocks its investigation falls short of the position of his fellow 2020 primary contender Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who said at a town hall last week that Congress should begin impeachment proceedings now.
"We have very good reason to believe that there is an investigation that has been conducted which has produced evidence that tells us that this president and his administration engaged in obstruction of justice. I believe Congress should take the steps toward impeachment," she told a CNN town hall in New Hampshire.

After US lawmakers demanded Donald Trump's financial records from Deutsche Bank and Capital One, the US president sued to stop the release. The subpoenas would serve to "ferret" for damaging material, the lawsuit says.
Previously, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff said the subpoenas were part of an investigation "into allegations of potential foreign influence on the US political process," hinting at Trump's dealings with Russia.
Responding to Trump's legal move, Schiff and his colleague from the House Financial Committee Maxine Waters said the lawsuit was "meritless."
"This lawsuit is not designed to succeed; it is only designed to put off meaningful accountability as long as possible," they said.

(1,124 posts)In my non-legal opinion, Trump has racked-up plenty of those felonies. Are there any lawyers, who read D.U. who want to comment on this matter?

Fighting a subpoena that tries to get your personal financial records is not witness tampering... nor would it be if you threatened to sue the bank if they released them.
If, OTOH, the courts decided not to quash the subpoena and you threatened them in some other way (say... hinting that you won't approve their next merger)... then it would be witness tampering.

(26,760 posts)Biden is making the appropriate noises to appeal to as wide an audience as possible (as most Democratic leaders are). They'll say that impeachment is not currently in the works but remains possible if their investigation turns up enough wrongdoing or if Trump blocks their investigation.
Nothing new there.
You have obviously decided that fighting a subpoena for his personal banking records should qualify under Biden's standard... but that doesn't make it so.

(26,760 posts)It's really an article about Biden and mods say those belong here.
real Cannabis calm decided to combine his interpretation of that article with other news and declare that what had really happened was a trigger had been reached for impeachment... justifying an ALL CAPS BREAKING NEWS ALERT!!!
The reality is that there's no reason to wonder it's in primaries. What is worth our wonderment is why it wasn't one article in primaries (with the correct title)... one article in GD (same)... and perhaps his own comment that he/she thought the two were related.

(26,760 posts)Reposting it here and informing the audience that it had been locked originally probably caused many to take a closer look. It's hard to miss that the title is false. I see no Democratic leaders calling for impeachment based on Trump's opposition to those subpoenas.

(1,124 posts)Joe Biden: Congress has no alternative but impeachment if Trump blocks followup probes of Muellers findings
PUBLISHED 4 HOURS AGO UPDATED 3 HOURS AGO
Former Vice President Joe Biden says impeachment is the only constitutional resort Congress could turn to if President Trump blocks followup investigations of Robert Muellers Russia report.
Biden tells Good Morning America that Muellers 448-page report included several areas of inquiry that were left undone.
Trump and his business sued to block a subpoena seeking information from an accounting firm about Trumps finances. The president and his family also sued Deutsche Bank and Capital One to block House subpoenas for his financial information.
Democratic 2020 frontrunner Joe Biden said Congress will have no alternative but pursuing impeachment if President Donald Trump or his associates block investigations based on special counsel Robert Muellers Russia report.

(26,760 posts)Biden gets to decide whether he considers such a move to be "blocking investigations". You don't get to do that.

(26,760 posts)Biden hasn't called for impeachment at all, let alone done so "caused" by Trump's attempt to quash a subpoena. Nor have any other Democratic leaders been documented as doing so.
You could claim that rather than false, it could be "entirely unsupported" (hardly a big recommendation)... but the title actually included "BREAKING NEWS". There has been no such news today.

(1,124 posts)As for "BREAKING NEWS" the Biden news article is only 4 hours old, on 4/30/19 (today)

(26,760 posts)The title has to actually match the article. Yours isn't even close. You're trying to leave the readers with the impression that Biden (AND other leaders) just responded to Trump's move with calls for impeachment. You haven't backed any of that up.
are you attempting to claim that subpoenas are not "FOLLOW-UP PROBES?"
Nope. Care to try again?

(1,124 posts)What I find most unusual, is your fixation on the idea that news, which is only a few hours old, isn't "BREAKING NEWS."

(1,124 posts)It's a shame it doesn't have as many recommendations as the original news article received, in FAR less time, in General Discussion, yet.

(1,124 posts)By 7:14 PM on 4/30/19 it finally surpassed 26 recommendations. Anyhow, ALL readers can criticize and enjoy at least one recent news article - from major media sources - ESPECIALLY IF ARTICLES APPLY TO PROSECUTING TREASONOUS CRIME-SYNDICATE ORGANIZERS, (AKA. TRUMP) WHEN I WRITE "BREAKING NEWS!"
btw, using ALL CAPS is an old advertising strategy, which remains effective, apparently...
