Joe Biden shuts down Fox News reporter's 'gotcha' question on Obama non-endorsement

"Former Vice President and presidential candidate Joe Biden explained to a scrum of reporters waiting for him in Delaware why he had specifically asked President Barack Obama not to endorse his candidacy.
“If you’re the best choice for the Democrats in 2020, why didn’t President Obama endorse you?” asked Fox News’ Peter Doocy, obviously going for the “gotcha” question. But Biden was prepared, and knocked Doocy for a loop."

“I asked President Obama not to endorse me,” Biden said. “Whoever wins this nomination should win it on their own merits.”
“Welcome to Delaware,” he added, turning away dismissively before Doocy could continue.
“You and your message made this about the debate about President Trump,” said an unidentified CBS reporter. “You’re going to have to get through the Democratic primary first, why are you the best choice?”
“That will be for the Democrats to decide,” Biden said, as he turned and walked away.

I think this is really important to understand, because we need to make sure we don't -- that strategically as a party that we don't come to be viewed as the defenders of a system that is letting people down. And we wouldn't be here if the economic and political system hadn't failed people.

President Obamas plans to rebuild America were blocked by McConnell from the day Scott Brown won the special election in Massachusetts, January 29, 2010, like Newt Gingrich blocked Clinton every time after 2004.

If that’s the Third Term you’re looking for, you’re kidding yourself. The economic and political system has failed the Midwest and the nation. Whatever the result in 2020 the cancer of dispossession and decline remains. There is no return to normalcy. Normalcy gave us Tump.

People like to portray him as a "gaffe machine", but that tag was put on him by his opponents and the MSM. As a result, every time Joe makes a mistake, as most politicians do, the media is quick to reinforce the "gaffe machine" tag. Anyone who has followed his career, knows it does not really represent him.

As you say, "this is not his first rodeo". Poor, poor Donald, his stupid one liner insults aren't going to work with Joe.

If the heat gets too hot, he’ll try to escape, in some unmarked chopper from behind the White House at 3am when he thinks the past is clear. Or maybe in some unmarked limo that disappears silently into the night. Won’t be “the Beast” - which is the big bulletproof presidential limo with the presidential seal on both sides.

He’ll do anything to avoid having to face the music. I’m thinking setting up shop in the Crimea. Where did I read it - ? That there’d been discussions that involved a gift of land in the Crimea to trump from his pal Putin to sweeten the deal in exchange for getting rid of the sanctions. Ideal for building a well-guarded and ultra-lavish family compound FAR FAR away from prying eyes.

I remember reading MONTHS ago that Obama had firmly decided not to endorse anyone in the primaries.
Privately meeting with and counseling candidates or possible candidates, yes. Public endorsements, no.
A wise decision, in my opinion.

So, honestly, there was no need for Biden to ask Obama not to endorse him. He wouldn't have anyway. And Biden had to already know this.
