Franklin Graham, one of the countrys most influential evangelical Christians, has called on Democratic candidate Pete Buttigieg to repent for being gay. Graham, the president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, called homosexuality something to be repentant of, not something to be flaunted, praised or politicized, in a tweet Wednesday.
Just a few days ago Graham denounced Christian activists for rudely shouting at Mayor Pete during Iowa campaign stops. He closed that Facebook post with a citation of the bible verse that calls for executing homosexuals.

Couple of things the wanker failed to realise:
AND....
Mayor Pete rocks, not cause he is gay but cause he is progressive and clever, that he is gay is bloody marvellous, in part because it shows the true colours of wankers like this.... but apart from the most extreme hopefully this nasty rhetoric will move them closer to the centre,

(612 posts)He comes from a "branch" of rigid, Biblically literal Christian thought that does not understand the God of Christianity as LOVE incarnate. Graham ignores the fact that Jesus says NOTHING about homosexuality, even though many of His followers seem to be fixated on it. Who, exactly, made Franklin Graham the judge of the rest of the human race? I believe we should accept and support our gay brothers and sisters, especially in the face of ignorant, judgmental people who claim to speak for the broad, diverse body of Christian believers.

(59 posts)Trump has singlehandedly pulled back the curtain on the rotten corpse of American christianity. Despite being the least moral person to ever hold the office of President, Trump is literally adored by christians. After telling us for decades how morally superior they are, christians fall for the most obvious trap ever laid out for hypocrites and everyone is laughing except them.
Great, wonderful people exist in many christian churches, but the leadership and the outspoken are outright creeps.

(612 posts)but I'm compelled to point out that Trump is literally adored "ONLY by a minority of literalist, fundamentalist Christians." Most of us Christians -- in my experience -- have a good heart and a working brain. We unqualifiedly reject Trump and everything he stands for. The weirdos among us seem to get all the press. Unfortunately.

(2,227 posts)But we don't seem to hear that much from that majority of christians with hearts and brains... I don't remember much more than a peep from them during the 2016 election. That will have to change in 2020, if they want to be on the right side of history.
As a gay man raised in a fundamentalist Church of Christ (strictly literal interpretation of the bible), baptized at age 12 (one must be aware of "giving your heart to christ" ) ...
who is now an unapologetic, bona fide, out and proud ATHEIST, I would suggest those christians take back their religion from the hate spewing, racist bigots who take their instructions from the old testament, which, with the crucifixion of christ was replaced by the new testament...
But that's just me....

(52,152 posts)and it is the fact he has laid bare, for all to see, the utter hypocrisy of American White Evangelicals. Forever more no one should take seriously the notion that they have anything moral to say or for us to hear. Clearly they have no mooring to the Bible, Jesus, or anything other than the naked pursuit of power. Their love of Trump laid that bare for all to see.

(50,533 posts)When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.
Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?
The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.
They also will answer, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?
He will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.
Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.
(Just in case you're wondering why all these false Christians are so big on visiting prisons...)

And all -- I mean, not all the Jews, but a lot of the Jews are great friends of mine, they swarm around me and are friendly to me because they know that I'm friendly with Israel. But they don't know how I really feel about what they are doing to this country. And I have no power, no way to handle them, but I would stand up if under proper circumstances.''
"... a revelation in 1994 of a conversation he had with then-President Richard Nixon turned out to be a source of embarrassment for Graham not at the time it was disclosed by Nixon Chief of Staff H.R. Haldeman, but years later when a tape of the conversation was released by the National Archives.
At first, Graham denied comments Haldeman made in his book, "The Haldeman Diaries" that Graham and Nixon had disparaged Jews in a conversation following a prayer breakfast in Washington D.C. on Feb. 1, 1972. Haldeman said Graham had talked about a Jewish stranglehold on the country.
