The most important idea is to nominate the strongest candidate who will have the widest appeal.

Especially in states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Georgia, and more. States that are "swing states." That could either way. No, I don't think a Democrat will win Texas. Do you? But Arizona is very important.
...On the other hand, I do think Democrats will win New York, California and Oregon. But the future is very foggy indeed in Florida and Michigan. We do not know what it will be like a year from now. But, wherever we may be, we need to win to save this country. We need to be united in the Democratic Party to beat "them" They are awful beyond belief. And I believe that the Republicans will be united behind their candidate, most likely Trump. We cannot have the infighting that has characterized us right here in this group. That will destroy us, and allow "them" to win. And we cannot count on Pence being a pushover. There are no pushovers. I surely thought Trump would be a "pushover." It was too close, and the Russians pushed him through.
...Please when this is over, we must unite against "THEM". The bad guys, the Republicans, the assholes, the killers. Please we need to win against .."THEM."............................................
..............................................................................................................
_________________________________________________________________________________________
.please excuse the play on words............I had to do it...With 18 months to go, till the November 2020 election, I had to play with the word ...."THEM"..........

THEM is a 1954 movie about giant ants taking over a city. Due to fall out from nuclear testing, the ants grow to a gigantic size and attack humans in the city... Hit the link below if you don't believe it..

And even if he does not win it, it will FORCE Republicans, for the first time ever, to fight hard to defend it. That means they have to sink a ton of money and effort there instead of somewhere else.

If Biden gets the nomination he should pick Beto as VP. That would force the GOP to have to spend a ton of money and time in many states Trump needs to win and if Beto is on the ticket I really think he puts Texas in play.

He came darn close against Cruz. For a midterm election he was able to motivate and deliver an increase of youth vote by 500%. He never poll tests his positions on issues. He says exactly what he genuinely believes, period. That authenticity means that he has no problem defending his positions because he has a sincere reason for doing so. He is open to criticism and suggestions and he respects all voters, even those who don't agree with him.

Trump is going to try to use the border and immigration to win re-election. Beto is absolutely masterful at telling the truth about the border in a way that will neutralize Trump's fear mongering. He would make Trump look like the bumbling idiot he is in debates. No one running knows more about the border and immigration than Beto.

He's also playing it really smart the way he campaigns. He is building a formidable ground game and he can raise a ton of money.

but there has to be more.

We have spent the last 35years or so (I choose this number because I have been alive and aware of politics) worrying about the next election. We need to have a 50 year plan. I know that Biden is "supposed" to be the best choice, but I don't see what he will DO if he does become president. I am worried about our species surviving.

I really think putting someone with a vision would unify this party whether it is Mayor Pete or Gov. Inslee or Sen. Bernie Sanders.

I think what is lost from the last election was that the voters responded to out of the box, bold thinking. Whether you agree with the policies or not, the underlying theme was business as usual doesn't cut it anymore. The people have been patiently waiting for their slice of the pie.

I think the orange Cheeto is awful, but what led to him heading that party and not Jeb? I know what led me to caucus for Bernie and not Hillary and it was that I didn't think we had time for slow incremental change anymore.

Inspire the people, they will come. Have a strong vision for the future and they will come. Be bold and decisive and they will come.

1. species surviving takes a chronologically second place to the 2020 election. Joe Biden will do all the right things for the species survival and he will do it with efficiency and finesse not with slogans and platitudes.

2. The last election was not won because people wanted "bold" ideas -- after Hillary was tarred and feathered by carpetbaggers who called her corrupt, weak and corporate, the voters turned to a TV businessman who assuaged white fears and its Obama hatred.

Your premise is entirely incorrect.

We are talking about a sane, somewhere-left-of-center, DECENT HUMAN BEING WHO DOESN'T WORK FOR RUSSIA ... vs a RUSSIAN AGENT WHO IS AN AWFUL HUMAN BEING ON ALL LEVELS.

Of all the Democratic candidates in any serious consideration, any one of them is a vast improvement over the awful POS currently inhabiting DC. Any one of them who is a reasonably good leader* will appoint qualified staff that will get to work on rounding up the horses and closing the barn doors and pasture gates (or for literal folks, fixing all the agencies that Trump has done his best to destroy if not hand over the keys to the Russians.)

What will they do? What will ANY of them do? NOT REPLACE GINSBURG WITH A KAVANAUGH, for one. NOT floor the accelerator on destroying the environment in all aspects, for another. (hint - "climate change" isn't all there is. The elevation of TRUMP has DESTROYED so much. We can only hope to begin protecting what's left, and hope that's enough.)

FUCK. When will we ever learn?

(to your claim that they need "more" to win - well THE OP SAID the important thing is to win. Whatever we need to WIN, is what we need. Period.)

* unfortunately there's a couple that seem like not good leaders ... that would be my main reason for disqualification at this point.

the Republicans thought are main candidate was deplorable and they thought anyone could beat her. They had a crowded field and the person who won, wasn't the one that could unify the party.

When will we learn that voters from all walks vote because of a strong message. Obama did it before that with HOPE.

Nominate the Strongest Candidate with the Widest Appeal.

Because Trump and Trumpism is our greatest national security threat. Or as the Republicans are fond of saying:We need to rip it out root and branch. Which means a full repudiation of everything Trump and his enablers are--Conmen who have spit on the country for ego and profit, betrayed the Constitution and the Rule of Law.

They need to be defeated just like those giant ants!

We can do that with the right nominee.
