Sanders just said he'll stay on the ballot, continue gaining delegates to give him as much leverage

as possible over the party platform.

Just now on MSNBC,

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

What happens elsewhere, of course, cannot be controlled. The voters, however, will understand who the nominee will be, and will act accordingly, I believe. This election season belongs to Joe Biden and Donald Trump from now on.

a great deal. Joe Biden will have a majority of delegates well before the convention. Most voters will not cast their vote for someone who has withdrawn from the race. A few might, just as a few are still voting for other candidates who have withdrawn. Bernie Sanders will have difficulty reaching the 15% threshold in most states and will thus win no delegates or only a few in some districts.

Voters know who is still running and most will not waste their votes on those who are not.

The DNC does not control what happens in state primaries. I've been saying that for a long time when people kept saying the DNC was manipulating the primaries. Anyone that has any knowledge of elections would know that is not true.

The DNC does not determine how a candidate gets on the ballot.
Each state have their own requirements. Petitions and/or filing fees.

The DNC does not determine the deadline candidates must file by.
The states do.

The DNC does not decide when or where primaries are held.
The states and local government does.

The DNC does not assign election workers to conduct elections.
The county election boards and in some cases city government does.

The DNC does not determine the rules and requirements in running elections.
The state election division or equivalent does.

As for removal of a candidate from the ballot. The DNC does not have that power.
Removal from the ballot at the state level is determine by state code and I do not believe there is a law in any state that provides for automatic removal from the ballot when a candidate suspends their campaign for a primary. It would be different if it was for the general election. For a candidate to be removed from a primary ballot would in most cases require someone filing an appeal due to a candidate not meeting specific requirements.

Joe Biden

In the lurch if BS got the nomination. Because then Dolt45 would have won outright. Even if BS had managed to eke out a win(highly doubtful), there wouldn’t be M4A, because he couldn’t dictate it into law like he foolishly thinks, and he’s too selfish and unable to negotiate with, well, anyone to get legislation for it into law.

Past performance predicts future actions, and Mr Grinch has 30 years in DC of zero significant legislation because he’s a slacker and has zero concept of how to play well with others. If you think those same traits wouldn’t result in M4A getting shellacked, then politics may not be for you.

If I were to vote in a presidential

And has proven how full of shit BS and his berntrash are when it comes to anything related to reality.

Why don’t you ask the backbencher from Vermont how his state’s bid for single-payer played out? In a state that could have easily made it happen, since it has such a small population.

Because it was an epic fail, in case you didn’t notice.

Employers didn’t want their taxes going up by a quarter, and taxpayers didn’t want up to 9.5 increases in their state taxes to pay for it.

But you keep living in la-la land where it’s easy to make all that happen on a population 52800% larger than Vermont’s.

At least I have a real world example of an attempt at a real single payer attempt in the US to cite, while you have, hm—only speculation.

So who is full of horseshit now?

He’s not getting any concessions this time.

He brought nothing new with this campaign. No expanded coalition. None of his supposed youth vote. In fact he brought in no new numbers for ANY demographic. Unlike Biden who is getting blacks in better numbers than HRC, and is bringing in more suburban women in droves.

When you don’t bring anything new beyond more spiteful divisiveness and contempt for Democratic voters compared to 2016, you don’t get any new concessions.

He’s going to learn that the hard way at the convention.

To clarify my question.. What will Sanders do if he doesnt get what he wants? Biden has already indicated he will include Sanders in his "journey" and wants to incorporate some of his ideas in his platform. So what if Sanders wants more than Biden is willing to give? What will he do?

I fear he might withhold his endorsement and start throwing insults which would likely get his supporters all pissed off again like in 2016.

Wed Apr 8, 2020, 12:45 PM

Doing it while showing every intention of blackmail to force concessions is actively destructive.

This not some campus clique of Marxists, not some five hundred strong convention' of the Socialist Workers Party. In those sorts of things, platforms and manifestos do matter, because they show who is in and who is out within the group.

The platform of a major national party is today a meaningless document. It neither directs nor binds actions during a campaign, or when in office.

The man betrays an unerring instinct for the capillary in taking planks of the platform as he chief object at any stage of a political campaign.

"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. Is fooling only themselves.

He has nothing to offer to get concessions. He had the same small fan base as 2016. No expanded coalition. No significant increase in any demographic. He couldn’t bring in his supposed strength if youth votes. Women + minorities + independents are where the votes are to be had for any Democrat who wants to win in November, and BS alienates all of them. They really—really—don’t like him. Loathing might well be the best word to describe it.

When you have nothing new to offer, but still want to vomit up hatred of Democrats and their party, you get no new concessions.

Kinda like training them to engage in a democratic habit out of principle, not loyalty to a person.

Wed Apr 8, 2020, 02:37 PM

not.

I believe he'll support any party suspension of future primaries if some "decider" does that.

Biden said the country had previously managed to hold elections “in the middle of the civil war all the way through to world war two” but acknowledged this election cycle “may have to be different”.

Bernie said
“People should not be forced to put their lives on the line to vote,” Sanders, the Vermont senator, said in a statement. “The state should delay Tuesday’s vote, extend early voting and work to move entirely to vote-by-mail.”

Given that he already called for WI to postpone its primary, I think he'd also support any decision the Democratic National Committee makes about continuing or suspending.

Though the Guardian reports opinions about both primary and GE decisions, I'm believing that Bernie won't request further primaries if the DNC decides otherwise.

will get you a ride on the bus (though don’t ride the bus right now unless you have to).

The party platform in modern times has no force whatsoever. Bernie can take bragging rights for including an aspirational clause or two that will probably never come to pass, but Biden will campaign (and, hopefully, govern) on his own agenda. Nobody reads the platform, and Democratic candidates can pick and choose the planks they wish to run on.

It’s just an aspirational vision statement, full of sound and fury but signifying very little. What Joe Biden chooses to speak about and espouse at the convention, whether virtual or live, will be the real platform for 2020 and hopefully the next four years.
