Delegates breakdown

Biden currently has 1,224 delegates to Sanders 923. That is a 301 advantage.

In 2016, Hillary had a 202 delegate advantage using only the states allocated for the 2020 primary.

There are only 1,668 delegates remaining to be allocated. Biden needs 767 delegates or 46% of the remaining to receive the nomination. Sanders needs 1,068 or 64% of the remaining delegates.

In 2016, using the remaining 2020 delegates, Sanders only received 45% of the delegates.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

As you point out, Biden only needs 45.9% of the remaining delegates, Sanders 64.1%.

For perspective, in the 30 that have already happened, he's only exceeded 64.1% in three primaries/caucuses - one being Northern Marianas worth a whopping 6 delegates and another being home state of Vermont worth 11 delegates! The third was Nevada where he got 24 delegates.

So, three >64.1% worth an aggregate of 37 delegates (less than 1% of ALL delegates!) and he expects to get more than 64.1% in each and every one of the next 27?

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden

301 delegates behind with 1,668 delegates left and as the second highest. Having watched many races over the years, it is very clear that candidates - especially those who reach the top tier, put their heart and soul into winning and most of those trailing often hold onto their dreams long after they are no longer attainable.

I think the effort by top Democrats, who have any personal connection to Sanders, acknowledge that he was a strong candidate, though he is losing and appeal to him to run a positive campaign -- and fire anyone paid by him who refuses to do so. In fact, he will NOT win via a negative campaign, so this could even be said to be the best plan.

I think Biden, in many public comments, has tried to take the path of praising and not attacking Sanders.
