Buttigieg accuses Trump of terrorism

To make us smaller, more divided and less free. To weaken us by distancing us from our own values through fear and anger. This is the function of terrorism.

@PeterButtigieg

After 9/11 we all said we were changed. That we were stronger and more united. That’s what “never forget” was about. Now, a president uses that dark day to incite his base against a member of Congress, as if for sport. As if we learned nothing that day about the workings of hate.

That day, some people did this: killed thousands of Americans in order to try to make us smaller, more divided and less free. To weaken us by distancing us from our own values through fear and anger. This is the function of terrorism.

I served overseas, at risk to my life, in the struggle against such terrorism. But it can only be fully defeated if we have leaders at home who defuse its capacity to sow hate—hate against Islam or against any number of “others.”

The president today made America smaller. It is not enough to condemn him; we must model something better.

The threats against the life of @IlhanMN make clear what is at stake if we fail to to do this, and to beat back hate in all all its forms.

His anger shines through every line. Yet, he doesn't lose his way.

We need this anger and this sense of control so badly. This is what I'd hoped for with Obama, but he couldn't or wouldn't manage it. He didn't want to be seen as the "angry black man."

Pete doesn't have those constraints. His anger is thoughtful and right on target.

I really respect him.

We're in search of charismatic leadership for the good of the entire nation. IMO, it's not the time to divide our majority into factions.

Buttigieg is showing all of us, including the Dem candidates, the way. No one has cornered the market on leadership.

by his own choice. When he finally finishes this phase, he will once again reject his Democratic Party membership. That's because he regards Democrats at best as inadequate and unprincipled by definition. They all believe in advancing society by using the power of and serving the wishes of the giant, mainstream electorate.

It's important that voters realize Russia and the Republicans promote him for reason, and it's not because they're trying to help us.

But fortunately currently we have a lot of good, principled liberal Democrats running who are competent, share the liberal principles the Democratic Party, and, crucial to a democracy, play very well with others. The kind who Russia and the Republicans will be fighting ferociously to keep from becoming our next president.

Why didn't he include photos of the hundreds of Muslims dancing in the street? Or an audio of his immediate reaction, that now one of his buildings was the tallest in Manhattan? Or photos of the handful of people sheltering in his lobby, for which he applied for and received 9/11 funds intended for small businesses? I guess he forgot.

So smart, such a great communicator, he's definitely shot up to the top 3 in my book - at this time. The race is very fluid at this point and the debates haven't even started nor the primaries, so lots and lots could change. I am really excited about the great field the Dems are generating, every one of them 1000 times better than drumpf at his very best.

This is what we should expect from EVERY Democratic candidate. But Buttigieg leads the way.

Well done, Pete. And I don't mean that within the "performance" context. Buttigieg says what millions of us are thinking, and he says it efficiently and powerfully. He doesn't need a thousand words.

In order to prevail in 2020, we must lead, and Mayor Pete is rapidly emerging as a strong leader, focusing our attention on where we need to go, rather than where we’ve been, and where we seem to be now, i.e. the modern Dark Ages. Meanwhile, the drumpf-humpers and other sycophantic RepubliCONs are quite content to follow cadet bone spurs through the gates of Hell.

My preference for Corey Booker is strong, but not cast in stone. I’m even able to pronounce this candidate’s surname without trouble.
