OMG, he is scolding voters and saying their votes are wrong

because they didn't vote for him.

He's not even trying to be reality based. This is really scary now.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

80. Like Trump he fed his base, and indulged his own beliefs,
Wed Mar 11, 2020, 05:43 PM
Mar 2020

at the expense of expanding his appeal. Research shows that followers don't just change to adopt their leaders' beliefs, but that leaders also change to reflect their followers.

He's created a a nativism-lite class-warfare movement, an alternative to Trump's hard-line nativist authoritarian one, for instance. Agreeing to serve AA issues would offend many of the socially conservative-leaning bros he needs for his revolution, and even more of them he hoped to draw away from Trump. He made his choice.

And so on and on. In both cases, the bases drawn to the messages they've spread for years now most accurately reflect each of them.

Very on point for the primaries, most of Sanders' hard-core base have an almost fanatic devotion to his theme that Democrats have victimized him and them and are as bad as, and no alternative to, Republicans. To the point that contradicting that message has in the past generated real anger -- against him. Of course, the broad range of sensible Democrats, whom his delusions of large numbers of insurgents flocking to his revolution apparently lead him to believe he wouldn't need, don't agree with it.

A specific discussion about one trait that doesn't apply to all (some are reportedly attracted by a need to be part of something they see as great and meaningful, for instance) but related to this general point, from Scientific American:

The Personality Trait That Is Ripping America (and the World) Apart

There has been an increasing recognition in psychology that personality traits interact with messaging from leaders. "A crucial skill for politicians is... to speak the 'language of personality'... by identifying and conveying those individual characteristics that are most appealing at a certain time to a particular constituency," note Gian Caprara and Philip Zimbardo. They found that voters select politicians whose traits match their own personality. ...

Perhaps the most important interaction in the world today, however, is that between antagonism and populism. The core feature of populism is an anti-establishment message and a focus on the central importance of the people. The anti-establishment message portrays the political elite as corrupt and evil, and disinterested in the interests of "the pure people." According to John Judis and Ruy Teixeira, the essential divide among populists is "the people versus the powerful."

In a recent series of studies, political communication professor Bert Bakker and his colleagues conducted the largest and most systematic investigation into the question: What happens when antagonistic citizens receive an anti-establishment message? They found strong support for the notion that the anti-establishment message of populists resonates the most with highly antagonistic people. This finding was confirmed in seven countries across three different continents. Antagonism predicted support for populists for both right-wing (Trump, UKIP, Danish People's Party, Party for Freedom, SVP) and left-wing populists(Podemos, Chavez).

123. Boy, did you say it! Leaders of almost any ideology,
Thu Mar 12, 2020, 09:34 AM

including secret, can harness populist resentments.

Of course remembering how the Kochs hired agents to secretly bring together, fund and direct the growing RW resentments -- resentments against them, against the political agents the wealthy had used to take over the GOP, against "the establishment"!-- as the Tea Party and turn it on Democrats and not-so-crazy conservatives.

Those fool-tools served their enemies well until they believed the GOP's anti-spending rhetoric and got so full of themselves that they tried to turn off the spigot on the Republican wealth transfer. Then the spigot was turned off on them. Movement cancelled.

Would have thought it couldn't get more stupid than that, but then they found Trump. A disordered, astonishingly incompetent billionaire literally without capacity for any ideology beyond "me."

Meanwhile, on the populist left most are also perfectly comfortable with having no real idea where their current leader -- who does appear to have his own questionable relationship with reality -- wants to take them. And the well-meaning followers, drawn to high-minded ideals rather than destruction, have no idea that their movement is dominated by people who are very different from them, with very different drives. When all claims and promises from the stump collide with reality on examination, it's reality that's denied.

I must have imagined all of this from his prior run:

Women campaign works paid less, treated worse, for which he apologized--but took it back with an excuse of being so busy during the campaign, for which he did ZERO, until the NYT called him out on it. In 2019:

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/02/us/politics/bernie-sanders-campaign-sexism.html

Calling Hillary's criticism of his gun-control stances, "shouting," which is rich coming from a putz whose vocal tone always seems set at pissed-off:

https://www.npr.org/2015/11/01/453663625/is-it-fair-to-accuse-bernie-sanders-of-sexism

Or how about this demeaning remark made by his campaign--with nary an apology from BS--about Hillary's "role" in the future if BS (kill me now) got elected, that she might--MIGHT--make a good VP, I guess if she were a good girl, shut up and stepped aside for the "good" of white male privilege:

Sexism charges came up again when Sanders' campaign director said, when asked if they would consider Hillary Clinton for vice president: "Look, she'd make a great vice president. We're willing to give her more credit than Obama did. We're willing to consider her for vice president. We'll give her serious consideration. We'll even interview her."

Gee, how very fucking nice. They'd "even" interview her! The WOMAN who was kicking his ass all over the place in the primaries.

https://www.cnn.com/2015/11/03/opinions/kohn-bernie-sanders-sexism/index.html

Or how about this sneaky sexist jab at Hillary in April of 2016:

When CNN’s Jake Tapper asked him about the increasingly aggressive rhetoric between Sanders and Hillary Clinton, Weaver averred that his campaign was prepared to play hardball. He then sounded a warning to the former secretary of State and her supporters, suggesting that they not get too critical of Sanders or his supporters. “Don’t destroy the Democratic Party to satisfy the secretary’s ambitions to become president of the United States,” Weaver said.

It was a small comment, in every sense. A throwaway bit of nastiness coming from a campaign manager in the late stages of a long and hotly contested primary battle. But the line, which overtly cast Clinton’s political ambition as a destructive force and framed her famous drive and tenacity as unappealing, malevolent traits, played on long-standing assumptions about how ambition — a quality that is required for powerful men and admired in them — looks far less attractive on their female counterparts, and especially on their female competitors.

Weaver’s language made explicit a message that has, in more inchoate form, been churning through the Sanders campaign’s messaging in recent weeks. As Sanders’s staffers spin the story of how they got to this point in the race — with a candidate whose success has been unexpected and thrilling, especially with young Democrats and independents, but who has failed to win over voters of color and older voters, and remains badly behind his tough opponent by nearly every metric — they seem to have been working on a new framing of Hillary, one that relies on old biases about how we prefer women to conduct themselves and how little we like those who flout those preferences.

https://www.thecut.com/2016/04/bernie-sanders-hillary-clinton-tries-too-hard-ambitious.html

Or how about this tone-deaf-beyond-belief response to a young Hispanic woman aspiring to public service:

Bernie Sanders says that just being a woman isn't enough to get you elected.

Sanders was speaking to supporters in Boston Sunday when he was asked how a woman could become the second Latina senator in history.

"It's not good enough for somebody to say 'hey I'm a Latina vote for me' that is not good enough. I have to know whether that Latina is going to stand up with the working class of this country and is going to take on big money interests," Sanders said.

"It is not good enough for somebody to say, 'I'm a woman, vote for me.' No That is not good enough," the Vermont senator continued. "What we need is a woman who has the guts to stand up to Wall Street, to the insurance companies, to the drug companies, to the fossil fuel industries."

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2016/11/21/sanders-identity-politics/94221972/

And let's not forget the thousands of times he screeched about "identity politics," which has always been code for, "You women and minorities need to shut up--JUST SHUT UP--and let us hoary white men decide what's best for you."

But if you want an example of him doing it, then here's a double-down on the filth that spewed out of his stupid piehole to that young Latina:

In November 2016, after Donald Trump was elected president, Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont — who lost the Democratic nomination to Hillary Clinton — predicted that Democrats were headed for some soul-searching. "One of the struggles that you’re going to be seeing in the Democratic Party is whether we go beyond identity politics,” Sanders said. “It is not good enough for someone to say, 'I'm a woman! Vote for me!’ No, that's not good enough.”

https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2019/02/04/identity-politics-trump-julian-castro-stacey-abrams-beto-orourke-column/2733935002/

There are more examples of him blathering this bigoted crap. MUCH MORE.

My 20 yr old daughter at Berkeley voted for Biden - is Bernie’s explanation she just did it reluctantly because she thinks Biden is the one to beat Trump?

That would make one think that he, Bernie Sanders is stating he can’t beat Trump.

Or is he saying she is wrong and doesn’t know what she is doing?

I would say she, we, who are voting Biden know EXACTLY what we are doing.

94% of the "throw them against a wall" victims were POC. This policy was changed only by a federal court ruling the policy Unconstitutional. Bloomberg wasn't a Democrat when the Cavanaugh "confirmation" happened. I believe Thomas Jefferson's political party should aspire to loftier ideals.

I am 100% behind restoring the soul of the Nation. I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love.

Bernie will not split the Party by running outside the Party like Perot and Nader. I think he has helped the Democratic Party and continues to do so. And I'm not the only one. I like many of his policies, his political philosophy in general, and I must not be the only one because he has around 700 delegates at this point.

And you know, he tried to recruit Warren to run in 2016, she wouldn't so he did. He's not the opponent trump is.

From those who don't believe I have the right to cast it and have it matter. Who think we need to "shut this puppy down" and short circuit the will of at least half the voters by coronating a nominee before we get the chance to vote.

Maybe you're right about why some people are not voting for Bernie, but that's not what the exit polls show. The exit polls in every state showed that a plurality or majority of people agreed with Bernie on key issues, but that people were choosing their candidate based on who they thought could beat Trump rather than who agreed with them most on the issues. Find me a single state where "agrees with you on the issues" didn't beat out "can beat Trump."

The fact of the matter is that I didn't, along with the majority of actual voters who decide these things. He doesn't get to usurp and browbeat people and force his contrived talking points on people after they reject him via the election process that is in place.

His comments were extremely insulting to black voters and just downright disturbing. We haven't even gotten into the choice they have to vote for Obama's VP, for instance, as yet one more reason they are rejecting Bernie. He completely dissed them by saying his contrived talking points are more important than their efforts to pick a candidate. That is supremely arrogant.

His forced issues and talking points do not supersede actual votes. It's really disturbing at this point.

Are we really going to spend the next eight months paying any attention to what Bernie says. He may not be ready to concede out of respect for his followers but he knows, they know, everyone knows it’s over. You're no liberal if you're willing to screw over the most vulnerable among us by voting against the ONLY party that has a fighting chance to protect them, all so that you can "feel good" about yourself and screw everyone else. You may not like it that said party isn't perfect--and never has been or will be, but you're delusional if you think anyone else has a fighting chance to protect those who most need it.

If that's your idea of a conscience, you're not a liberal.

I think many people are misunderstanding Bernie Sanders. He is just trying to get across the purpose behind the campaign he is fronting is the campaign supported solely by individual small donations with the most progressive and innovative platform to sustain and invigorate our democratic form of government. He is simply trying to convince you as a human being to vote in your own best interest. This is what democratic socialism is. It is for you, it is for us. Think libraries ,infrasructure, firehouses, healthcare, education, environmental protection, etc., etc. He wants to represent investment in us by us and for us and make the changes you want to make a reality. Also, I have seen no evidence that Bernie Bros or any of the nasty bullying being attributed to him are actually associated with him or are even real .This is propaganda and too many people are naively influenced by it. I will vote for whomever wins the primary election.

Sanders has been running for the past five years. You are right about one thing, he is now showing the real purpose of his running. It isn't about his policies. It is entirely about him.

If you want to talk about voting for your own best interest, how does not voting against Trump help anyone who claims to be a progressive?

Wrong man. Wrong message. Wrong time. Wrong attitude. Wrong demeanor. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Who does he think he is, anyway? He's in no position to be making demands. He's behind. He's losing. He's got NO path forward and he knows it.

He was HUMILIATED last night and the beatings will continue. The voters have clearly had enough of Bernie Sanders.

It doesn't enter his mind that most Dem voters are ideologically center-left voters who believe in safety-net capitalism (ie, what the party has always stood for) and who reject socialism or the nationalization of healthcare. Polls showing voters support for 'Medicare for all' imo don't tell us much since many voters don't understand that it would abolish private healthcare, and think it its the same as 'Medicare for all who want it' (ie, the public option).

Also, many young voters under 30 are voting for 'anti-establishment' not neccessarily leftwing or progressive ideals or whatever. Many of them liked Ron Paul before Bernie came along.

This is not to discount the reality that there is a generational issue that Dems need to address, but it's not exactly how Bernie lays it out.

I find it really disappointing how many people on this site don't even seem to understand what democracy is. A lot of you seem to be as cultish as the republican party.

Cult: a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing.

In the past 2 weeks several really good candidates have dropped out. NONE of those candidates or their campaigns threw the kind of disgusting shade sanders and his campaign has.

And, the candidates and their supporters that dropped easily went from sincere support of one to another.

I always thought it was about counting votes, and if someone gets more votes than someone else then that person wins the election (except when the Electoral College determines things.)

Please explain your concept of what a Democracy is and what exactly it is that we don't get?

Does it involve declaring the winner after the Iowa Caucuses? How about giving New Hampshire 1,000,000 electoral votes and South Carolina, Michigan, and states that don't vote the way we like 1 each.

Please explain.

I'm very curious.
