to create an ebullient, massive support atmosphere with leading questions so Sanders can give his one stump speech several times as an answer.

I think they should have Town Halls on TV to replace the rallies. Trump could do the same. Snicker!

Imagine if Bernie's supporters had seen the obvious and supported Liz instead.

Now I realize many would say the same about Biden supporters, but it is turning out that Bernie was just the wrong person to wield their motives.

My first impression of Liz had me imagining her wielding a baseball bat at the end of days.

They would be fools not to. But it's not realistic at this time. I still take a lot time. He's making it sound like elect me and it's over and done. They may like it but that doesn't mean thy believe him.

9. Theodore Roosevelt first proposed universal health care in 1912,

we have been dealing with this for over a 100 years.

I wonder when it will be "realistic" as the rest of the advanced world has already passed us on this issue?

But we get it... it's fun to pretend there's a magical panache that will allow all our national failures to be overcome in the space of one election-- sacred cows tend to convince us of such.

17. Doing the same thing we've been doing for 40 years isn't going to get us any closer either

Time for a new approach, wouldn't you say? One that doesn't acquiesce at the first 'no' or give away the farm for a toothpick? Incrementalism has brought us to this cliff; continuing in this vein may well push us over.

It took great courage and strength to create SS. Same for Medicare. It wasn't all nice-nice-rosy-happy. If the leaders back then had adopted today's timidity, they never would have succeeded.

show the same timidity as is present now. They knew what could be accomplished and what couldn't. I applaud their pragmatism.

23. ??

I guess you've never read about LBJ's "Johnson Treatment." There was nothing timid about it. It was "pragmatic" from the standpoint that he used it very effectively to get reluctant senators to do his bidding, including pass Medicare. He wasn't afraid to try, he jumped right in and arm twisted his way to success.

Our leaders today could take a lesson.

31. "He wasn't afraid to try, he jumped right in and arm twisted his way to success."

Really?

LBJ did accomplish quite a bit, but did he try to get universal health care? No, he knew that wasn't possible so he used his influence to achieve what we take for granted now. He didn't attempt to revamp the entire economy, but he took steps to provide assistance to those that were most vulnerable.

LBJ did have a program to create a Great Society, but he certainly was not an advocate for a Great Socialist Society. LBJ didn't promise free college tuition because he knew it wouldn't pass. LBJ didn't propose that government be involved in every sector of the economy. LBJ did not argue that the energy industry be nationalized like Bernie did in his youth.

And in 1968, LBJ did show that he was timid. He was grounded in reality and knew that if he ran for reelection that he would be defeated so in that respect he was timid. He knew that his advocacy for civil rights made him a pariah among voters in the South. Yes, I'll admit that LBJ accomplished a lot but he also sacrificed a lot simultaneously.

Sanders has advocated changes that most of America is uncomfortable to support. If he moderated his views he might have built a broader coalition that supported him. However, his all-or-nothing approach has led to the outcome where he will get almost nothing. No significant legislative achievements in three decades in Congress Some states that increased their minimum wage, but no increase in the minimum wage at the federal level. And in another fifty years, he will get the same recognition as Eugene Debs--a few people will know who he is if they play Trivial Pursuit or Jeopardy, but the bulk of the population won't remember him at all.

a candidate that beats Trump or one that agrees with you on the issues is a corporate media conglomerate construct meant to create a psychological division as if the one couldn't be the same.

It's like asking someone would you rather kiss your spouse or for them not be beaten up by someone?
