(219 posts)Thinking about his legal position: if he directly placed ads, he might end up in court whereas political speech might be a little protected. Even Steyer worked from the impeachment organization before running instead of simply placing Steyer ads.
I do have heartburn thinking about what $500M could have done in food banks etc. But he does have a unique perspective and I hope he helps as he planned.

(8,052 posts)Take away the billions, and he's still a former successful NYC mayor. DeBlasio ran too, for about two weeks, IIRC. I think the money and self-funding throws off everyone's perceptions of candidates like Steyer and Bloomberg, so that all people see IS the money and not their message or policy plans. In a way, it's a negative factor for them rather than a positive one.
