How Joe Biden helped build a financial system thats great for Delaware banks and terrible for the rest of us."
Note: This is an in depth article that discusses the history and unique laws of the state Deleware and how it has impacted the banking and financial industries in this country along with Joe Biden's role in supporting deregulation and other baking related legislation.
It is worth the read.

(630 posts)So sanders' past views and statements should be considered as well, correct? I've been told of late on this board that only what he says and does now matters, so I'm looking for some clarification.

(630 posts)You could pick a socialist country, repressive or not, and there'd be a good chance Sanders has given them some love. I'm not going to defend every vote Biden took, especially on behalf of the banking industry. I just trust him more to run ther government than a guy who currently has people standing at his podium calling for a radical socialist makeover of this country.

(15,265 posts)We have a generation of kids and in many cases their parents that are going to hamstrung with college loans for the bulk of their lives. The available jobs pay little and rents are high. There was just a report that the typical American worker can no longer afford a family on a years salary. Look at the homeless population in any city in the country. The number of homeless kids.
I like Joe Biden but I remember reading about comments he made at abig $ fundraiser lastJune where he told the would be donors that "If I am elected nothing will fundamentally change". I believe him.
So yes, I think we need someone who is going to change things. The priorites have to be changed .

(5,168 posts)which allowed big money to control our media in fewer and fewer hands, and Joe Biden has done more to comfort the comfortable, and afflict the afflicted, than any Dem candidate in my lifetime.
Then, on the first night of his 'official' campaign, he attends his first fundraiser at David L. Cohen's home, Comcast's chief lobbyist, and you have to wonder if he's already in their pocket too. There goes your chance for bringing back Net Neutrality. Without Net Neutrality, the Internet eventually becomes hostile to the Dem party, except for the 'establishment' corporatist neoliberals.
Joe wasn't called Senator MBNA for nothing.

(36,017 posts)Delaware has been on the second tier of the U.S. tax haven pole for the world since before Biden showed up teaching corporate law and commuting to DC.
Delawareans get a patriotic glow from living in the First State to ratify the Constitution. But from 1899 on, DE's government, established what they called General Corporation Law, and advanced corporate interests at the expense of shareholders and other stakeholders getting redress. Long before WWI, DE was already being accused of leading the country in a "race to the bottom."
Sure, Biden knows all about Delaware being the largest extra-jurisdictional tax haven in the U.S., with Nevada about to take over. Its banks were way ahead of him for a couple of centuries.
While all this tax hoarding appalls us, it's been around since the 19th Century. Knowledge of Delaware as THE incorporation state has been around along time, too; but only on a 'need to know' basis for Americans in general. Over half of US publicly traded companies and nearly 2/3 the Fortune 500 are incorporated in Delaware, mostly at 1209 Orange St in Wilmington.
A truly great read on the map of corporate and private global hoarding, etc. is in the classic, Treasure Islands -- Tax Havens and the Men Who Stole the World (2011) by Nicholas Shaxson.
