Julian Castro Calls 'Bullsh*t' as Bill Maher Defends Biden: He Can't Just Laugh This Off

by Josh Feldman | Apr 5th, 2019, 10:44 pm

-snip-

The Real Time host said he liked that Biden didn’t apologize for his intentions and told Castro he was struck by the level of “gravitas” he gave to this controversy.

“I think he should joke about it,” Maher said. “I don’t think it’s that big a deal.”

Castro said he disagrees, saying that women have been told to “be quiet” for years.

“Not stuff like this,” Maher shot back. “It’s not the same as sexual harassment. He did it to men too! And children! He’s a toucher!”

Castro again disagreed and said the women aren’t making up their fears and stories, adding to Maher that it’s “bullshit to say that people can get away with laughing it off.”

moment and when it's happening? I know it can be hard but we have to start encouraging young girls and women to do this. Also the 'perpetrator' would be told of what they are doing, which could in turn help them modify their behavior.

These fucking people would not survive ONE SUBWAY ride for fucks sake.

Disagree with Castro on this...such is life where folks disagree right and left. But still a good person and great Democrat...so it's easy to disagree with a candidate and not tear them the down to shreds.

I like Castro and I don't plan to write him off over this, especially if it's his sincere opinion. I haven't seen the show yet, but generally speaking, I prefer someone giving a sincere opinion that I disagree with over a phony opinion that I agree with.

Julián Castro welcomed home-state colleague Beto O’Rourke into the crowded Democratic presidential primary field Thursday by releasing a list of more than two dozen elected and appointed Texas officials endorsing the former San Antonio mayor over the former congressman from El Paso.

The timing of Castro’s brushback pitch was viewed by some Democrats as unsportsmanlike. To make matters worse, some of the endorsers were surprised to learn that their names would be released on the day a fellow Texan announced his candidacy. And at least one official on the list said he was actually neutral in the 2020 race.

“That list is not ready for prime time,” said Colin Strother, a Texas Democratic strategist who once advised Castro, asserting that it was a “petty” move by an ordinarily classy candidate. “I think [the timing] was in poor taste, and I think it sets it up as though they want this to be some kind of contest between him and Beto and who’s stronger in Texas and, you know, one person put out a list with 33 names on it and the other person came within 3 points of unseating Ted Cruz.”

“If it was an effort to rain on Beto’s parade,” he said, “it was ill conceived.”

Here's Debbie Dingle's who knows Biden..

“It’s his first public event,” Dingell responded. “I’m not going to judge him on it or not on it. The crowd reacted. Joe Biden is Joe Biden. If he runs for president he’s going to win because he is Joe Biden. He’s got to respect people’s space, he’s got to understand that there are some people––and he’s acknowledged it––that don’t like it, but his strength is his empathy.”

Shoplifting is not the same as murder, but both need to be addressed, especially with someone who doesn’t seem to “get it.”

IMHO, whether the space invasion is disqualifying is a separate question from whether it’s patronizing, etc., and needs to be dealt with appropriately. Let the voters decide if they consider it disqualifying. I think part of the problem is the media coverage of these events.

I like our having lots of viable candidates. It makes it hard for Trump cronies to target someone for destruction.
