-snip-
The Real Time host said he liked that Biden didnt apologize for his intentions and told Castro he was struck by the level of gravitas he gave to this controversy.
I think he should joke about it, Maher said. I dont think its that big a deal.
Castro said he disagrees, saying that women have been told to be quiet for years.
Not stuff like this, Maher shot back. Its not the same as sexual harassment. He did it to men too! And children! Hes a toucher!
Castro again disagreed and said the women arent making up their fears and stories, adding to Maher that its bullshit to say that people can get away with laughing it off.

(8,231 posts)moment and when it's happening? I know it can be hard but we have to start encouraging young girls and women to do this. Also the 'perpetrator' would be told of what they are doing, which could in turn help them modify their behavior.
These fucking people would not survive ONE SUBWAY ride for fucks sake.
Disagree with Castro on this...such is life where folks disagree right and left. But still a good person and great Democrat...so it's easy to disagree with a candidate and not tear them the down to shreds.

(32,808 posts)I like Castro and I don't plan to write him off over this, especially if it's his sincere opinion. I haven't seen the show yet, but generally speaking, I prefer someone giving a sincere opinion that I disagree with over a phony opinion that I agree with.

(81,708 posts)The timing of Castros brushback pitch was viewed by some Democrats as unsportsmanlike. To make matters worse, some of the endorsers were surprised to learn that their names would be released on the day a fellow Texan announced his candidacy. And at least one official on the list said he was actually neutral in the 2020 race.
That list is not ready for prime time, said Colin Strother, a Texas Democratic strategist who once advised Castro, asserting that it was a petty move by an ordinarily classy candidate. I think [the timing] was in poor taste, and I think it sets it up as though they want this to be some kind of contest between him and Beto and whos stronger in Texas and, you know, one person put out a list with 33 names on it and the other person came within 3 points of unseating Ted Cruz.
If it was an effort to rain on Betos parade, he said, it was ill conceived.

(11,662 posts)...is that Maher had a skit cued up for the end of the show trashing Trump for saying "bullshit." Don't always agree with Maher in fact I often don't recently, but I did find Castro's outrage a bit ridiculous.

(34,535 posts)Shoplifting is not the same as murder, but both need to be addressed, especially with someone who doesnt seem to get it.
IMHO, whether the space invasion is disqualifying is a separate question from whether its patronizing, etc., and needs to be dealt with appropriately. Let the voters decide if they consider it disqualifying. I think part of the problem is the media coverage of these events.
I like our having lots of viable candidates. It makes it hard for Trump cronies to target someone for destruction.
